  • The Afar Triangle is one of a few places places on earth where amid-ocean ridge can be studied on land. Geologists predict that the Afar triangle will be submerged forming a new sea.

Thanks for the insights into the environment of Afar. A modern version of a system I am studying.

thanks for this really good documentary!End of 2004 there must have been some strong event , a kind of crack that by the sudden run through the Afar zone and the transafrican fault. and this event was what most likely triggered the 9. 6 M earthquake on the eastern end of that WA plate on the subduction zone WEst of Sumatra on 20041226. The primary events on the Afar trench was not noticed first, until in January 2005 some experts measured that this crack had began to widen end of 2004 with a rate 1000 times faster than before. ( 1 mm/ year until end of 2004; 1 meter and more/ year since 2005) This event was maybe caused as well as accomponied by a strong magmatic intrusion. Magma intrusion seems to be anything else than a daily or constant event, but happens 1 periodically and 2, if then - as sometimes long period geohistorical events show if, then mostly on a global scale. what only can lead to the conclusions that there are times and periods when the Earth mantle just gets hotter than usually ehyt can`t on the other side than not be caused by and geointernal force , as there is not addiotional source of energy than only the gravitational prressure which has an absolute constant value. THe intrusion there continued after 2005 land stretched temporarily out below the entire region with drought effects that reached on Java. Its an very obvious event that shows , that an initial MAGMATIC INTRUSION IS ALWAYS ASSOCIATED TO STRONG SUBDUCTION QUAKES.
The most amazing in this magmatic intrusion process in real is the SHEER UNBELIEVABLE EXPANSION FORCE in this magma while dwelling up form the Earth mantle . THis expansion force results from the difference of gravitational pressure, (which is not anyway comparable to any pressure as we know by daily experiences ) but results from the difference in graviational pull on the magma in the EM compared to the pressure it is exposed to on the surface ITs so strong that the expanding magma lifts up entire islands and landscapes as well as it can press apart entire continental plates. ( what all just depends on the amount of upwellling magma what - again- depends on the temperatures in the mantle). Thes spreading plates then- logically - have their other ends in an subduction zone, where the magmaticexpansion forces on the spreading zone then press these plates under the edge of the aneighbored plate into the earth mantle ( what causes then coincident and rlated strong SUBDUCTION QUAKES) The ends of these plates then dive into the earth mantle get melted there and the cycle closes . for those who are interested: I am sure, I could find out what causes these temporary phasesof heat up process in the earthmantle. You find my documentary about socalleD SOLAR (ACCELERATED) PROTON EVENTS (SEP, SAP OR SPE) on my homepage: solar and terrestrial blog. We live in a strange time and a period that likely happens only all 12960 0r 25920 years, what interestinglyand curioulsy seems always to be at the halftime and/ or full period of one socalled period of "earth precession".

+Helmut Hummel The 'event' are the plates moving away from each other....and it is not really an event but a continual process'event' is not an event

+Nicki nurse thanks for correction. Can`t correct it anymore The sudden widening of that trench end of 2004
which was therefor a extraordinary event during an ongoing process in the Afar triangle likely happened before Dec 26- 2004- resp was likely a part of the effects from the christmas quake 2014 before Sumatra. Its a long comment, I should have made shorter, But- as lower the knowledge as more so. talks about . I don`t know, how far that is approved, but meanhwile and due to newer insights given by geologists, i strongly believe that magma intrusion/resp. inflation and deflation processes from the Sumatra hotspot / Toba Caldera- known as one of the most intensive and dangerous hotspots( supervolcanoes on earth, might have been responsible for or had at least sth. do do with that event

Don't be silly- you can't stop a volcano from pumping out gas, and besides some of the gases volcanoes emit are vital to our very existence! :-P
