Thank you, for the memories. My Grandfather bought me a Revell kit in the 60s and started me to a lifetime of model making.

My grandfather did the same. I remember Monogram aircraft like the Hellcat and Avenger with the folding wings, working landing gear, etc. Being a kid, I was anxious to finish and "play" with them, but he taught me to be patient, take my time and do a good job - lessons that remain with me to this day.

I built some odd models as a youngster. Not into ships then but 10 year old me had a great time putting together the George Washington about 1975. Heck, I even painted all the little parts and details.

That Renwall kit brings back a lot of memories. Didn't it come with a spring loaded missile you could "fire"? I suppose later issues would remove that mortal hazard

Both the Renwal and Revell kits had them

Spring was pretty weak; couldn't get mine to clear the tube unless I held it at a downward angle.

My grandfather got me the Ethan Allen in the late '60s (I was only 9!) Unfortunately, several of the decks were so badly warped, I couldn't build it-- didn't have the skills or knowledge I have now; never thought about writing for replacement pieces.
Didn't realize these were 1/200. With the availability of naval figures in this scale now, might be worth another shot!
I'll just add it to the list that shouldn't take more than 100 years to complete....

I have been working on cleaning up the parts on 2 reissued kits. Warped parts is still an issue.

Awesome video. I got the older 1960s version and I built her without the interior. The decals were shot and I bought new decals for the outer hull. I was missing 2 small parts like a mess table and 2 ladders. I weathered my sub with charcoal pencil.
