From the great Valley Girl soundtrack, here are The Flirts doing "Jukebox". I added a new audio track but it slips out of sync slightly toward the end.
Yeah, this was definitely one of the earliest music videos on MTV. Then as more groups got into music videos, and MTV got more to put in the rotation, this one got shelved. In the beginning, though, it was on all the time.
I was super young, too, when this came out ... But the reality there was soooo much great music at the time. Even then, though, this felt like fun bubblegum pop like The Brady Bunch updated in the 80s ...
On this day in 1983 {September 3rd} the Flirts performed "Jukebox (Don't Put Another Dime)" on the ABC-TV Saturday afternoon program, 'American Bandstand'... The year before on October 31st, 1982 "Jukebox" peaked at #28 {for 1 week} on Billboard's Hot Dance Club Play Songs chart... And on the same 'Bandstand' show the trio also performed "Telephone", the song was track one on side two from their 1983 album 'Born To Flirt'.. Between 1982 and 1986 the trio had seven records on the Dance Club Play Songs chart, two made the Top 10 with one reaching #1, "You and Me" for 1 week in 1985... Besides "You and Me", their other Top 10 record was "New Toy", it reached #5 in 1986...
I loved this song when it was new. One of my early crushes on the Italian guy in the video. MTV brought all of this wild and crazy stuff into the living room of a young teenager in a small rural town. Was awesome!
You were lucky. It was still early days for videos ... and most people didn't have access to them. I only ever heard this on the radio (and honestly, for not that long but I *always* remembered it.)
It's videos like this that make me wish that MTV would go back to it's original form and play these old videos! Until right now I didn't even know this song had a video!
Lori Reece I don't understand how they can still call it MTV. It's all crap about pregnant teenagers and "reality" shows. They don't even play music videos anymore.
Whether you call it 80's Alternative or New Wave, this song and The Flirts other songs were cool and catchy. This era was great, despite being a very young boy.
I remember I did not watch it much because we did not have the cable channel package at home. Joined the USAF in 82 moved to California and vandenberg AFB then saw it
I have a memory of walking home from school after a big snowfall on Niagara St. next to the park and singing this song because back then Walkmans were still out of reach for a little kid ...
Now, this is music ! The 80s had great music. My friends and I would sing this song whenever we broke up with someone, especially if they were caught cheating.
Loved these songs and movie in the 80’s when I was in college. Now my daughter goes to Northridge and I play this song every time I come over the 405 pass to the valley
This was the first video I ever saw from start to finish on MTV. This video, Saga's On the Loose, & Scandal's Goodbye To You are the videos that will forever be in my head!
This song is great and they sound fantastic! You better check your ears pal, also this is kind of pop, with little punk attitude and new wave plus etc.
One of my faves from the early MTV era. (Reminds me of when I used to look like the young woman with the short hair in the video. Those were the days!)
The song is great! It should have made the Top 40! The video was hilarious! Best part: When The Flirts hit the guy with the big pizza! The Flirts were and are hot! The blonde, Andrea Del Conte, was always my favorite!
It went to 28 per wikipedia. And honestly, I was very young at the time, if it hadn't gone Top 40, I don't think I would have ever heard it on the radio ...

Wow, torturing myself hearing and seeing the Flirts in Skirts is really starting to Hurt. The super hot lady dressed in dark pink and then off white is like totally gorgeous and irresistibly adorable > 0:46 > 2:14 >

Agree, this song is underrated, along with, "Cool Places."

80's doing very well, man :) - born in 1981, hated it then, last 15 years i loved it lol

Bubble gum pop
They were very synth heavy. Long intros, and this is their most radio friendly
This whole album is a good one. I found an LP of it at some random CD store in Connecticut, and i played it a LOT.
I remember when MTV was only music videos.
Thatd when it was good, not with all the non music shit they've played since
They are a puppet of the left. MTV is un watchable.
Aubree Gallucci , Ohhh.... that was a long time ago

The intro of this sounds they “New Wave’d up” The Rolling Stones’ classic “Brown Sugar”.
