Going to trial is a big risk because then you take the risk of him walking on a technicality or something else. At least with the plea deal he’s getting a prison sentence. I know it wasn’t easy for them to make the decision with how he acted in court but I think they made the right call.
And what the lawyer said " some people smile when under stress " well that BS he certainly wasn't smiling when the judge mentions > no plea agreement !

When you're going through the process it's hell. A lot of people get exhausted, depressed, and eventually as you said just want it to be over. That happened with a case that I was a party to, sending my stepfather to prison for molesting my daughter and a subsequent settlement for her. You get tired. Tired of the anger, the bitterness, the constant reminders of what happened. It's not that you ever forget. You initally go through the investigation with the cops and then the juvenile detectives. After that some involvement with the prosecutor. Constant reminders. Then lots of waiting, very nerve wracking. At some point I found myself wanting to forgive; I'm still working on that. I totally get the family's decision.
