BriansThing I haven't tried the Aerophone, but my Akai EWI has proven to be very useful in the same way an Aerophone would. I see it as a way to combat keyboard players stealing our jobs in Rock/pop bands.
It sounds so great, it doesn't sound the same as a real sax, but you can do pretty cool things with it. I like it! lots of instruments on one instrument.
I have one and find them great. I travel for work frequently and find that the Roland is very good for practice tasks like working on patterns and if you are working on a passage good for nailing down rhythm and time. I like the violin and cello sounds and these are fun for working out solos. Obviously not a substitute for acoustic and the sax sounds are not great. But the fingerings are identical so if you are working on scales, patterns, time, rhythm it is great, and the synth sounds are like a keyboard and work well over funky tracks. For sax players who would like to practice without disturbing people or who travel a lot it is great. And it really is an instrument all its own. I have found it extremely useful portable and you can get software like sample modelling to enhance sounds. Good review and good investment and could probably be used in a performance setting
I have seen the Aerophone before and quite like it. I have played keyboards for 22 years and started to play the alto saxophone and having an instrument where you can play it like a saxophone but get a lot of different sounds from it like you'd find on a keyboard is pretty cool. I would like to get one myself one day if I had spare money to do so.
Hi. Thx for your videos. Very useful. I have an aerophone ae10. I like it very much. But sometimes Ifrom going from the high D key to the C medium , there is a strange noise ('like a creek"). Do you think it is due to a lack of practise or should I have it repaired? Regards. Olivier
I'm thinking of taking up sax (I'm a drummer of 45 yrs), I played guitar for 20 years but I'm losing my dexterity and I need something expressive that I can manage. this is a cool second to a real sax I'd think, so much of the expression of a sax is in the breath and wood of the reed. my first instrument was a trumpet but I'm not really interested in taking that up again. This sounds so much like a Roland synth, which is really what it is with just a funky looking keyboard. it is versatile though...
Earl Brackett Sorry to hear about your loss of dexterity. Getting older here too. I developed a focal dystonia in left hand. Fingers just want to curl up. Sure ruined my ability to play those fast jazz bass lines on Hammond B-3. Now days I play a 30 pound 61 key Yamaha Motif XF. You might want to try the new Yamaha digital sax.YDS-150.
It seems to be a pretty cool and flexible instrument, but honestly I prefer first to explore the richness of a real saxophone, as I think the sound of this electronic instrument has nothing to compare with the sound of a real sax, with a real reed. But thanks to share 👍👏
I don't think the point of these things is to replace your saxophone. I view it as a way to explore sounds you don't have access to with a regular saxophone.
Bernie Dom Bernardo that’s interesting ! Did not know you could practice with both à backing track and earphones on silent mode ! That’s a great benefit indeed... thanks
Bernie Dom Bernardo thanks for the tips ! Seems great then as a complement to a normal sax or when you want to practice without having your neighbors yelling at you ! Thanks my friend 👌
Mines coming in a couple of days can’t wait to play mines a Roland Graphic AE 10G I pay 66 dallors for it just can’t wait to show out in front of my friends.
Also, I do not see a Users group for this Instrument or further updates and info from Roland. Are they doing the "Hey , just buy the new one" to correct problems and bugs....?????
Hi.. I am a beginner of Alto Saxophone just on the verge of finishing my classes by end of this month. However got attracted to AE-10 because of it's additional features. Can anyone guide me if it's suggestible worth buying AE-10 at this stage for practicing and playing.......!!!!
Hi, as a clarinet/sax player I would say that if you want to play a sax get a sax!! Yes, you most certainly could learn to play on this especially if you have a set of headphones so NOBODY but you can hear what you are playing. The downside, in my humble opinion, of learning to play this as opposed to a real sax is that you have no conception of how a 'proper' embouchure-reed combination works. You could blow through a paper straw into the mouthpiece of this DWI and, because it is basically only a wind sensor, you will still get a decent sound. Also, there is no resistance in the keys that you will experience with a real sax. So to answer your questions - is there anything better out there; no not unless you get a sax. Will you annoy the neighbours; not if you have a headset. Will you then be able to move across to a real sax - unlikely!! However, don't let me put you off - go for it and have fun but do not think of it as a replacement sax. (the sax tones are poor btw!)
I want a pure midi controller Sax I can plug in to customize sounds from daw, I want to not have to press my mouth on it, but rather controll it like a keytar
If you are still considering I would get the real deal maybe a jean paul as400 a little over 500 but if you travel allot I would understand that it might break or if you live in a apartment that has thin walls then I would go for a go
Roland KC 400 keyboard amp if you don't need power Bose give a quality sound unfortunately you get what you pay for so not cheap but buy once instead of replacing in the future
Does anybody get an Ian Anderson Tone from this? I have an AE-10 and I wish I could get some Tull tones. BTW...it sounds way better when plugged into a PA or Full Range Amp.
@@danielbabson9782 Hi Daniel - I don't actually own one, so I can't claim to be an expert, but it is very close to normal sax fingering. I suppose you might find it easier than a real sax because you don't have to create a full tone, it is done for you in the samples. You can also set the breath and pitch control to make them easier than blowing on an acoustic instrument. The downside of this is that it is hard to make it sound distinctive and individual.
mmhh, maybe it is innovative, but the aerophone doesn‘t convince me yet, compared to my tenor sax, the aero looks more like a toy and it sounds to me like music out of a tin 🤷🏻♂️. This maybe unfair after first time hearing it, but that‘s my first thought
Yes the sound volume out of the unit's speakers is better suited for practice probably. Check out my last video. I recorded it directly into my computer's audio interface. It should give you a better idea of the sound quality.

newfreedom21 Probably because you are a sax player and you know this instrument too well. To me they sound more than ok. Sometimes I hear sax players say say : the guitar sounds are great on the aerophone . As a guitar player I disagree because of my background with a real guitar. So it all depends on your background. But all in all I think this is a really cool device !
Let me know what you think about the Aerophone! As a sax player do you think you would have a use for it?!

So much versatility in this. I'm happy to see sax friendly fingerings. @14:15 Brian man of danger. Lol
I love my Aerophone 10, I don’t use it for Sax sounds I use others from it. Hope Roland adds more sounds
Ill stick to my regular tenor sax. Aldolph sax would be very disappointed.

So, the Roland Aerophone AE-10 can be connected to a DAW to use FX sounds like The Saxophones from Audio Modeling right?
Okay, those synth sounds convinced me
Would be sweet if it had a Coltrane setting that made you jam My Favorite Things For 47 minutes and not a second less.

Not sure this will do what you want. The Akai EWI instruments can work without breath control though.
That sounds good
I've never played an instrument. Middle aged adult and don't know how to read sheet music. Is this beginner friendly? Or recommend ae-05 or the mini?
i ll go for ae05 GO
If you are still considering I would get the real deal maybe a jean paul as400 a little over 500 but if you travel allot I would understand that it might break or if you live in a apartment that has thin walls then I would go for a go
@@DanielMartinez-lq7zn thank you. I do travel a Lot and would love to just pop out of backpack
Cool instrument, but to large and too expensive to bring along for fun.
But the new AE-5 (aerphone GO:) may be better choice, or??
Absolutely NOT - so limited compared to what the AE10 does. The extra benefits of the AE10 far outweigh the cost over an AE5.
When you charge the batteries does it matter what the setting is, batteries/usb? Thanks. Mine is aerophone go.
Very nice review. You showed every feature on that thing! Check out new Yamaha digital sax YDS-150. You may like esp the sax sound.
Well some time has passed. Still like it?
Tell me.Does it have Bluetooth capability?
I want to know if this will work with MPC Live and Akai Force
@BriansThing How much your Aerophone cost??????
Thats hot I need one
Things like this will never be considered cool or will ever catch on....
*Jack Black with his Sax-A-Boom* : "Hold my beer...."

The alto sax sounded a little between a harmonica and a kazoo.
This is cool af 😎
Just ordered mine! Excited!!
Can anyone recommend a speaker I could buy for it? (Nothing too pricey!)
A y small guitar practice amp would be fine

A good review - the Aerophone might have sounded more impressive through a keyboard amp or PA - but you covered everything very well.

Yes

it looks like it's built with plastic casing, does it oxidize and get brittle over time?

Can it be USB powered?
Still needs batteries or AC power when connected via USB
BriansThing thanks for the reply. That’s unfortunately a deal breaker for me.

looks and sounds like a toy
Three Sixty the acoustic sax is also a toy.
Maybe due to the audio recording for this video - the voices sound very artificial and tinny.
We are hearing it from the onboard speakers. Only suitable for practice. Stereo output jack is on there. Sounds infinitely better though a system.
Sounds like “Betty et zorg”
You can try also the EWI5000
