Thanks for a great instructional video. I have had a problem with my trackball on my Bernina 1630 for a number of years. The Bernina repair shop was unable to help me. Finally this year I could only do a straight stitch as the trackball only went horizontally from the top left so other stitches could not be selected. I was thinking of replacement when my husband found your video. With trepidation & hope I followed your instruction & the trackball movement is now just a good as new. Saved me from having to get a new machine & replacing the one I have loved for 32 years. I am very happy. The earring backs I used were 3mm x 3mm. Also the location of these on the spindle is important so check the video to make sure they are in the correct position.
this is exactly the problem I have with mine. I bought my Bernina from Goodwill and was unable to test it. the rollerball only goes up and down so it's stuck in straight stitch. this video is a godsend!
Bought this machine from an estate. Three days of use and the trackball failed. I watched your wonderful video but took the machine to a BCT for prognosis. He said it was "irreparable". Knowing a certified technician said such, I felt fine about giving it a try. If I damaged it, it wouldn't be any more unusable, right? Watched your video a couple more times, then followed along. Voila! I'm feeling a bit puffed up right now. ;D Thank you soooo much!
The original rollers on my wife's Bernina 1530 are 4mm diameter x 3mm long. I could only find earring backs that are 3mm diameter (500 pieces for $6) and these worked fine. Be aware that earring backs come in several shapes (plug, daisy, square, etc.) and you need the smooth cylindrical column shape. After replacing the rollers and reassembling the machine, the LCD screen would only display the Service Menu. There is a small gray switch on the circuit board located between the CLR and OK buttons that places the machine in service mode or normal sewing mode. During the repair, this switch had been inadvertently bumped to service mode. After placing the switch back in normal sewing mode, the machine works great and I have enough earring backs for 249 more repairs.
Thank You! With the help of your video I was able to replace the roller ball assembly from a 1630 into my 1530 successfully. Had previously tried this repair, replacing dried out pieces with earing backs, but was unsuccessful. I have absolutely no sewing machine repair experience and was still able to accomplish the task with your video. Thank You! Thank You!!
@@megbutcher3163 As I mentioned in a second post, the earring backings I ordered are too small. I sent a Messenger note to Caribe Tarawa but have not received a reply.
Yes i have same problem light fires up on start i have read a torch light out side but o wonder if a diode could be fitted in side the case .... i am trying to find a circuit diagram to replace inverter to allow this to be either replaced or or alternative solution
@@caribet1 Hi Caribe. No K-marts in Canada and Walmart does not stock. I'm unable to find them online. You could go into business if you have access to these rollers!! Would you be willing to send me a pair for NZ$30?
Have you opened the machine to see if the roller is moving the dials (you can only see one of the two when you take the side plate off). If the dial is not moving, then this might be the fix for your machine. If the dial is rotating, then see my updated description.... Probably a different problem.

This switch is clearly shown at the 1:09 mark in the video. I believe down is Service mode and up is Normal Sewing mode.
Thank you for this bit of information. I'm sure it will help another person, maybe me, if I get the courage to do this repair.

Good on you Caribe! You make it look easy mate...
Amazing, thank you. Will give this a try when I get the pieces I ordered online. 🤞🤞
Thank you for this! Very helpful. Now I just need to find earring backs.
Many thanks. Found an ebay supplier from Quebec who sells this silicone earring back.
Can you please share the supplier?

@@TheWarrenwiley I ordered some from Etsy from London that claim to be 4mm in diameter. I’ll let you know if they work.
Mine arrived and are too small as well
@@megbutcher3163 I am still hoping for a response from Caribe.
Thank you so much. Now, if I only knew how to service the rest of it, haha.
Can you tell me the mm measurement of the earring back? I would hate to begin and find that I have the wrong ones.
Thank you for posting this. Hope I can repair my 1630 with your video. Any suggestions on how to fix a dim lcd panel? TIA

Earring backs I ordered are too small. Caribe, where can I buy the rollers?
Go to a store that sells cheap earrings like K-Mart

Hi again Caribe. I have found 2mm X 3mm rubber/ silicone earring backs. Are these the correct size?
@@TheWarrenwiley I'll see what I can find at our local K Mart in NZ.

I Really wanted to see you do this but the background noise was drowning you out and very distracting. 😠
Hmmmm
