September 2023, just bought a dark blue berlingo,2002 mk1, not my usual type of motor, only had it a couple of weeks am impressed. Cheap parts a plenty.
Bought a 1.6 petrol 5 yrs ago. Not had a spare part in that time not even tyres (25k). Only service parts. Done 75k, its so smooth engine, floaty comfy suspension, almost silent and lovely to drive. My kids love borrowing it. I bought it to transport my elderly parents with sliding doors. I can get 3 people and 3 adult mountain bikes in. I have moved double beds/fridge freezers etc. its tatty inside now but externally is as new. 2007 plate. Bought as a 2nd vehicle workhorse and cannot fault it. Boot lock doesnt work but as u say who wants to nick one😂. I am 63 had 35 cars and i really can say I love it and its my go to to drive as a daily. The petrol is 1.6 16v 115hp and is no slouch yet on distance does 38mpg. Flimsy build and cant tow much but if this expires i will replace it with another. Your review is how i feel about mine, its a peach
Brilliant comment pal. As you may have seen with my other videos I have had some pretty sporty cars but always find myself jumping in the berlingo. The audi hasn't moved for at least 2 weeks now ha

Brilliant review - thanks for posting. I have a 2002 Multispace Forte 1.6 petrol just turned 100k miles; I'm the 2nd owner, had it for 15 years and I've done 65k of those miles. Never had any problem with it. Had timing belt done at 40k and 90k. Mine is dark red like yours and lacquer only just starting to blister in couple of small places bonnet and roof. I understand the red ones are prone to that but hey, mine's 19 years old so I'm certainly not complaining .No other rust whatsoever. My only criticism of my Multispace is the external lighting! The indicator and side lamp bulbs seem to blow quite frequently (headlamps are OK). Big downside is the tiny rear side lights which are very dim indeed. It worries me at night in bad weather. I wonder if these later lens clusters would fit on mine? I'd certainly buy a pair for peace of mind. Would you happen to know if they would fit? Cheers Vivian
You can straight swap the later outer lenses to your existing units. A friend of mine was concerned about the rear tail light visibility and linked some extra red led strip lights to the sides of the tailgate glass.
Just a couple of points too pal. If the cars is touching 100,000 miles and its not already had a clutch it will probably need one. Also two of my berlingos needed new rear axle at around 120-150000 miles too 😎
I had a Y reg 1.4 and got rid of it last year on scrappage for a Ford Tourneo Courier. The Courier might have the touchscreen and gadgets of a new vehicle, but isn't half the tardis that the Berlingo was. Like the new Berlingos, the Tourneo Courier has so much trim in the loadspace it really restricts the width, and the rear seats fold so as to intrude severely into the loadspace. Plus there's the nightmare of the DPF on a modern diesel, constantly having to do "maintenance drives" so it can regenerate. I would have kept the Berlingo if I'd have known we were going into a lockdown before I took delivery of the new one, and would have spent some time sorting out the heater matrix! I agree the seating position is superb. Barely any rust when I got rid of it, even where the C pillar had been damaged one side, only rust was on seams in the loadbay and that was just slight surface rust. The 1.4 was underpowered but got 45+mpg which isn't far off what I get in the new Courier (advertised 64mpg, I can't get above 55mpg even on the flat in sixth on the motorway!). We had a 2.0 HDi Partner at work which went like a bomb! I must admit in the 17 years I had the Berlingo I never used any of the cup holders! Only major jobs I ever had done were clutch at 150,000 (wouldn't declutch, and had to tow a boat back from Plymouth to Devon with it!), water damage to BSI due to link at A pillar. I solved my laquer peel with yacht varnish! Old number plate surround was a pain as to change the number plate bulbs it was near-impossible to unclip the lenses and you had to take off the door trim and unbolt the number plate surround. However the headlight bulbs were a 30 second job to change, but mine were the old design, I see yours has the newer headlights.
Im picking one up in Worcestershire, from Cornwall tater today, 2005 2ltr Hdi blue multispace Desire, put a £100 non refundable deposit on it, the cars £450, no service history, bit of a dent nrs wing, bit of rust os wing needs drop links Done 180k worth a chance, I hope it has plenty of life in as looking forward to a spot of camping out, if not, hopefully last whilst sort small issues in my old 1.8 diesel 205, my usual cars. 🤞✌️Thanks for video & advice & hints within. Dunc
Thanks for the video with real world feedback. I'll probably have to change my 25 year old VW Golf Mk4 in the near future. An absolute dream, so reliable that my neighbour has twice offered to buy it off me as it's more reliable than his new Opel. I've been thinking about a secondhand Berlingo for some time. I live in a village in the Czech Republic and my neighbour has an old one and newer one. He's a farmer and swears by them.
Good video .. I’ve owned my 03 plate Multispace HDi forte since June 2015… my clutch lasted till 250k car done 270k now paid £300 for it Just had sill replaced and painted looks as good as new again and dent repaired in osr wing that had been on there since had it.. mines 2.0 HDi last year had head gasket done as well
Great review Danny I know just where you're coming from mine's the 1.6 patrol not as good as the diesel for economy but it's still great on fuel and doesn't mind being in fifth gear at 30mph! Anyway it puts a smile on my face every time I drive it used it to do a tip run today and the look on everyone's face when you open that big tail gate and they see how much you can get in when they are struggling priceless mate😆I bought this as a second car but when this one gives up I will definitely replacing it with another and I've sat in the back of mine eating a buttie with a cup of tea as well mate love it😆
Mate, I love your channel, I have exactly the same car and the same colour. I bought a new car on the same day. I collected this one as a secondhand one Guess, which one I’m driving my berlingo I just love it
I've a 2007 Multispace 1.6hdi best car I've owned. With 336k on the clock and over 3 years of ownership I've put 100k of hard milage on it normally towing a trailer and not once as it broken down. Only issue I've had is the back axle finely let go which is common on this.
Great review! Im looking to bought one here in Brazil, unfortunately we don’t have the diesel version here, just the petrol 1.6 and 1.8. But um looking forward to find me a good maintained berlingo for work.
I bought one with tilt roof already converted. Then for about 300 quid fitted sink, battery, lights, radio, china heater and porta potty. Good solo camper.
My dad had a 2007 Citoren Berlingo in red and it was a good car apart from kids in the neighborhood keying it, and my dad took it for a service and the mechanics broke the metal bit that holds the coolant, and lorry reversed into it when my dad was at work
Great vid very informative, would just like to add that I had a 1.4 petrol wav model 2000 and loved it as I do m/c competitions and having the floor dropped 8" gives great headroom and also the best version to make into a camper.I acquired a 2010 1.6hdi xtr model during covid lockdown and is also a WAV adapted car, brill to drive 90hp air-con regular 48mpg and so comfy if your're on a long trip.thanks for your vids.
Brilliant cars! We are 2 adults 3 kids 2 big dogs and going out on holiday with all the luggage is easy! Plenty of power, reliable, and 9 bloody cup holders 😂....... Storage under the back seats, under the roof, in the back of the chairs, everywhere! Recommend buying one of you are thinking about it.
@@projectfearn yeh phase 1 with a k&n cone filter because the standard air box was missing when I bought it, found a k&n in the garage and chucked that on It had steels on it, one Friday evening coming back from work in London the gearbox started whining to the point my mate said I think you need to pull over I said na where at least get home, looked underneath the box had been leaking topped it back up and away she went . It was great in snow, and floods off road Literally drove it everywhere, just ended up becoming too small as the business grew
appreciate this thank you. am looking at getting one. had a kangoo before and converted it into a camper. looks like these have even better trim/cup holders etc. thanks
I had a old Peugeot 306 deisel loved that car had it 4 years and fixed nothing on it at all apart from two front tyres. Sadly the rear a el went the same with wheels tipping inwards
I had a 1.4 petrol which I loved, but it was a bit juicy on fuel, so i got rid and bought a 2.0 diesel. I'm not sure if there was something wrong with it, but it was the slowest car I've ever had! I'm currently thinking of buying another, after a few years of non-Berlingo ownership, and the 1.6hdi sounds like it will suit my needs.
Great vid, thanks bud, thinking of a low mileage mint multispace I've found, 7+ hr round trip to view but i think it'll be worth it! Thanks for the pointers, 👌 subscribed👍
@@projectfearn Its gold metallic with the funky green/ yellow interior. Got some minor issues sorted already, the airbaglamp was lit because of a loose connector under the drivers seat, the windscreenwasher pump got replaced. Love it!
Bought a 2.0hdi 2003 with the air con new brilliant car had electric window regulater after 6 years , heater control module cheap fix , never had drop links , alternator and front springs in last year .kept 10 y years 75k ,
The rear door will be the child lock. Look on the side of the door when you open it and you will see a black circle with a slot in it. Turn that to turn it off. 🤪
Really good information, I’ve just bought a 57 plate 1.6 petrol as need to use a van in London and my 56 plate dispatch diesel doesn’t meet the emissions from October. I have 2 problems that hopefully are an easy fix. Central locking doesn’t work and horn only works with ignition off and engine not started. Been told could be a bsi reset?
Nice video man! I'm on about getting one of these but don't know whether to go for the van or the one with back seats. Is it possible to remove the 2 back seats, leaving the single back seat behind the passenger in? or do you need to remove all 3? Because I need room to get a motorbike in the back but ideally need 3 seats as well. Cheers.
Yeah you can unbolt them in two parts pal 🙏 where I live when you pull up at the tip the first thing they ask me is does it have back seats haha 😄 I don't think they would let me in if it didn't but thar would be an argument for another day 😄
@@projectfearn I'm glad u mentioned that, because I'm also on about taking all the rubbish that's been building up in my shed for the last 10 years down to the tip in it. The one with seats is probably the winner then👍
My old man misses his 2004 berlingo he absolutely loved it and wants another one he's always talking about berlingos, he's got a cmax now and he absolutely hates it cos he can't do what he could do with the berlingo
Had a gearbox go on one of these (the old phrase sounds like a bag o' spanners!!).. picked one up for £100 quid and a local garage popped it in for another £200, hardly the end of the world. 1.9 diesel it used to run on will power. The fuel gauge hardly moved lol
@@projectfearn they are mate. Seen a couple of low mileage ones cheap so gonna take a look, my dog comes to work with me these days so the estate isn't cutting it anymore.. especially if I need to put something in the boot!
Maybe one of the best looking berlingo i have ever seen! Most of them are in scrap condition! You even have the shopping carrier, which is often missing from a used one!
I have a 2003 Berlingo that I bought second hand 5 years ago it is still running. I loved my Berlingo alas, it has suffered some damage with hail storm and a wooden garden chair decided to rip a trim of the back door. It is due to go for CT in January and I hope it passes as I have now bought a more modern car, 2010!! Then I hope I can sell it one to someone who will appreciate what a little work horse it is. Wish I could have afforded to buy a new one but in France cars are really expensive.
Excellent review Matey.. I have a 1.6HDI 2006 Peugeot Partner Escapade on 250k.. I love it.. It's the second one I've had... I must say although I agree with everything you've said I only have one down point on mine.. I don't know if you have the same problem.. I'm 5ft 9ins and I find I'm constantly moving the seatbelt away from my neck. If the seatbelt height adjuster in the door pillar would go lower the belt would fit tidily over my shoulder or if I could get a height adjustable driver seat and set it slightly higher it might solve the problem that way.... Otherwise, In around 150k miles of driving my Escapades I personally can't fault them... Oh and I've just pressed the Subscribe button.. Thanks Again..
I can't say I've noticed the seat belt hitting my neck but then again I'm a little taller than you. Thank you very much for subscribing. I still have lots to come on the blue Berlingo 😎
Hi,hope you don't mind e contacting you ,I'm about to look at one today considering trading my x type in for it. How did you get on with it,thanks,Stan
Watched your video....useful info I am looking for one in Guadeloupe French Caribbean. I am from Birmingham...moved to Canada in 1974 now retired in St Martin and wife has house in Guadeloupe...need run- about in Guadeloupe
I wonder if part of the reason why the rear axle is more prone to giving up (compared to other vehicles) is because of the spare wheel suspended underneath at the back. Must add a fair bit of weight. Maybe worth storing somewhere else.
Nice video! I have a 2003 Multispace 1.6i petrol got for a bargain £600 4 years ago had done 103000, now done 133000 and not had many major problems but in time I had it has needed new coil pack, battery, exhaust, front suspension arms, drop links, wheel bearing. I was prepared to spend as I new I got it for decent price. I have a coolant leak at moment and it’s coming from the double section heater matrix hose which is proving a nightmare to source the part, tried eBay, breakers yards etc no joy, any advice would be appreciated cheers!
Got a '59 plate Multispace II, little bit of a downgrade in features from the KIA Ceed I previously had (crunched the bodywork on that and cost too much for repair). Mother-in-law had a couple through Motorbility, so my family had little bit of experience and thus it was a car that both me and the wife agreed on. Only major issue I've had is the bearing on the alternator going, shredding the fan belt and knocking five teeth off the cam belt. Was lucky with the timing of the breakdown as minutes before I'd been on the motorway and the engine still restarted, so wasn't a write off.
Thanks man I like your in depth videos. I am considering buying one of these soon. My 03 Mitsubishi Space star is getting old and lots of things going in it. Its 3500 euro for a 08 model in Ireland do you think that is too much ?
@@projectfearn yes it's got to the point now where I need a new vehicle could I get you to do a video chat with the guy that I may be buying one off perhaps you could get him to show you around it and you would know the questions to ask to find out if there is any problems with it ? I'm in Ireland. You seem to know your stuff. Maybe he could give you a video tour of it? Or maybe you could give me a list of things to check for on it.
Hi. Any idea why my 2010 multispace has a rumbling sound on rough roads. My mechanic renewed drop links but it never solved problem. He can,t see or feel anything obvious. No noise on motorways or smooth roads. Thanks.Diane
All my berlingos have needed a clutch by 100,000 miles so if it hasn't had one it will need one. Most berlingos by 150,000 miles will need the rear axle replacing 😎
Hi nice review, I'm still getting used to my 06 1.6 Petrol in light blue but so far loving it. Its a peach, 1 owner 34k miles excellent condition. Like you j plan to keep it a long time and start doing the maintenance myself and looking forward to it. Just fitted a towbar (bargain price) and roof rails. Been driving an auto before this so now the clutch takes work but takes me back. One thing is the clutch feels heavy but works fine. Any ideas? New clutch or adjustment?
I'm looking at an 07 Berlingo today. It's 1.4 petrol with 81K. Any advice on what I need to be looking for and is the 1.4 petrol a decent engine?? It's had the cambrly done apparently. Only needed for school and work locally around town. Thanks guys x
Hi there. If its had the Cambelt done it should of also had the water pump done at the same time (you can just do the cambelt but the water pump is situated behind the cambelt so usually are done at the same time) either way you need to see a garage invoice for this work. If they say they have done it themselves, then you want to see a receipt for the pats. Clutches last around 100,000 miles abd rear axles last around 150,000 miles

Love your videos....we just bought a 2008 Citreon Berlingo 1.6 hdi. Having issues with brakes....brake pedal goes hard and brakes stick. Changed caliper and hose and still doing it...heading towards servo then master cylinder and then abs.....any ideas.
Disappointing that they ditched the van based Berlingo for the bulkier people carrier style (which are still very nice), if you want a newer small-ish car with tons of headroom and storage there's not anything as good out there. Prices on these have been creeping up and I really regret not buying a mint old style Berlingo with the dual sun roof for £990 when I had the chance (but unfortunately not the drive space). Ended up with a Fiat Qubo which ticks many of the same boxes.

You can straight swap the later outer lenses to your existing units. A friend of mine was concerned about the rear tail light visibility and linked some extra red led strip lights to the sides of the tailgate glass.
@@byronmills5952 Hi, that's excellent information. Thanks a lot.
Fantastic review! 10/10 You’ve covered most of my questions and because of your info I’ve decided to look for one to buy. So thank you! 👍
Just a couple of points too pal. If the cars is touching 100,000 miles and its not already had a clutch it will probably need one. Also two of my berlingos needed new rear axle at around 120-150000 miles too 😎

Some great comments, and point of interest for the the vehicle. Good down to earth video. Thanks
Cheers ✌️
All valid points pal. I make great use of my cup holders ha

I’ve owned my 03 plate Multispace HDi forte since June 2015… my clutch lasted till 250k car done 270k now paid £300 for it
Just had sill replaced and painted looks as good as new again and dent repaired in osr wing that had been on there since had it.. mines 2.0 HDi last year had head gasket done as well
Great review Danny I know just where you're coming from mine's the 1.6 patrol not as good as the diesel for economy but it's still great on fuel and doesn't mind being in fifth gear at 30mph! Anyway it puts a smile on my face every time I drive it used it to do a tip run today and the look on everyone's face when you open that big tail gate and they see how much you can get in when they are struggling priceless mate😆I bought this as a second car but when this one gives up I will definitely replacing it with another and I've sat in the back of mine eating a buttie with a cup of tea as well mate love it😆

people can't believe how much stuff comes out of it :-)

You will love it mate. Honestly I've had some cars over the years but the Berlingo just works in every way possible 🙌

You can't beat a berlingo pal 👍
Love mine too. Just keeps going.
Spot on aren't they :)
I've a 2007 Multispace 1.6hdi best car I've owned. With 336k on the clock and over 3 years of ownership I've put 100k of hard milage on it normally towing a trailer and not once as it broken down. Only issue I've had is the back axle finely let go which is common on this.
Yeah I've replaced two rear axles on berlingos. One with a hard 100,000 miles on it and another which had had an easier life at 150,000 miles 😎
Great review! Im looking to bought one here in Brazil, unfortunately we don’t have the diesel version here, just the petrol 1.6 and 1.8. But um looking forward to find me a good maintained berlingo for work.
Good luck my friend. :)
Excellent video thank you! Love to see u do camper on it as thats why i want one. Thanks for link to site for parts very useful

Its is a rubbish design but easy enough to swap out 😎😎😎
I had a 1.4 petrol which I loved, but it was a bit juicy on fuel, so i got rid and bought a 2.0 diesel. I'm not sure if there was something wrong with it, but it was the slowest car I've ever had!
I'm currently thinking of buying another, after a few years of non-Berlingo ownership, and the 1.6hdi sounds like it will suit my needs.

Just bought a 2006 Berlingo, can't find fuse for rear fog lights also rear near side passenger door only opens from outside?
The rear door will be the child lock. Look on the side of the door when you open it and you will see a black circle with a slot in it. Turn that to turn it off. 🤪
@@projectfearn slotted circle inside door, I tried it no difference the off side door locks and unlocks using your suggestion.
Don't hold me to this mate but I think the central locking has its own little module that can fail. As for the horn I'm not sure on that one pal :)
At 13:48 is what to look for when buying an used Berlingo.

Great video, what's the road tax on these approximately mate?Preferably the 1.6 diesel if that what you've got
Off the top of my head mate i think its £160 a year. 😎
Yeah breakers yards might not see if cost effective to spend the time taking it out :( have you got the citroen part number for it? 😎
Have a look at the Honda spike, you might have to import.
Only if it was a mugen. 🤣🤣🤣
Great video thanks 😁
You are very welcome 🙏

I'm in Ireland. You seem to know your stuff. Maybe he could give you a video tour of it?
Or maybe you could give me a list of things to check for on it.
Any problems with the automatic gearboxes in Berlingos? If I buy one it would have to be an automatic one. Thanks
I've never had an automatic to give a verdict. Sorry 😞
Hi. Any idea why my 2010 multispace has a rumbling sound on rough roads. My mechanic renewed drop links but it never solved problem. He can,t see or feel anything obvious. No noise on motorways or smooth roads. Thanks.Diane
I am considering one of these or a qubo/nemo. They all have roughly 100k miles. Should I avoid cars with this mileage?
All my berlingos have needed a clutch by 100,000 miles so if it hasn't had one it will need one. Most berlingos by 150,000 miles will need the rear axle replacing 😎

@@projectfearn hi im going to look at one in the morning an 05 model hdi, can i put cruise control on it?
Disappointing that they ditched the van based Berlingo for the bulkier people carrier style (which are still very nice), if you want a newer small-ish car with tons of headroom and storage there's not anything as good out there. Prices on these have been creeping up and I really regret not buying a mint old style Berlingo with the dual sun roof for £990 when I had the chance (but unfortunately not the drive space).
Ended up with a Fiat Qubo which ticks many of the same boxes.
