For years I've had total success with cutting off a shoot or even the entire plant top, stripping the lower leaves, and standing it in a glass jar of water for 2-4 weeks, making sure it doesn't dry out as they drink quickly. Numerous roots grow like crazy, and then I just pot them into standard general purpose compost. This is in Southern England, indoors.
How long did it take to start seeing roots. I’ve had mine in for about a week and don’t think I seen any. Maybe a small one but not sure. Did you let it dry first?
I needed to know what to do with a whole bunch of yucca babies given to me. Your video showed me exactly how i need to look after them. Therefore friend I am very happy to subscribe. Thank you.
En México esa planta se llama izote, llega a crecer como unos 6 mts y da unas flores blancas ,que se comen ,crece en los cerros o potreros ,Solo se comen los pétalos ya que el centro de la flor tiene un sabor amargo, se sazonan con condimentos
First yucca plants that were given to me were rather large clippings. I left them in my backyard for over a year before I planted them. Several years later they are taller than me and I have taken many clippings off of them. I probably have about 50 of them now in my back yard. I just cleaned 4 of them and got 25 clippings off of them, wanted to find best way to propagate them. Vermiculite sounds good, but I'm thinking that Im just going to get 5 gallon potting pots and order a yard of planting mix from a supply store and add some sand and perlite try to make my own succulent mix. We will see how it goes... But if anyone is scared of taking a clipping off their plant don't be scared they are super easy.
Thank you for this, it’s really helpful. I’m puzzled by one thing, however, and that is, what is the covering on the top of the cut yucca, please? It looks like rubber stretched over, but early on you specified to let cut stems dry out. If you cover the stems like that wouldn’t it slow down the drying process?
very helpful thanks can you tell me @0:30 the main trunk has some black stuff on the top what is this? as last year i bought 2 palms with this on and they died not long after
when i bought my yucca elephantipes and then transplanted it it has no root to i put in in the soil. Is the roots going to grow back or something it does have leaves growing
My question precisely. All of mine died. I assume from not enough watering. Also, the vermiculite I purchased was a much finer grade. Hopefully, someone will provide an answer.
*water every time the soil is dry but leave a bit of period with dry soil, so lets say i live in southern california [which i do] and its about 80° farenheit for the whole 4 months id have to water it every week*
@@dylxnchn Do you mean to say that we should water the vermiculite, when it's dry? It's easier to tell when soil is dry, but what's the rule of thumb for something like this? Like this video, I'm using 100% vermiculite to root my yuccas. I, too, need clarification.
I grow yuccas on my farm and U plant unrooted pups directly into the soul all the time! I've even planted sections of trunk directly into the soil and the trunks have rooted, sprouted and grown! Even up to 3 inch in diameter trunk sections, and 3 feet tall, with 6 inches below the ground!
I wonder the same thing. My neighbour accidentally cut a 4 m long plant at half. I don't want to loose it and want to grow it again but I would like to keep at least one m of the stem, and don't know if that is possible. What did you do?
hello yucca fans. I recently was at ikea and found some broken shoots of at yucca plant. They allowed me to purchase them at fraction of the cost. So now how do I root them? Don’t know how long they have been detached and what contamination of the wound has occurred? How do I proceed? I so want to root these shoots?!?!
Does this apply to any type of yucca tree? ( have a Yucca Aloifolia / Spanish dagger, the trunk is very tall with hardly any leaves at the top, so I want to cut it half to grow new roots to get more leaves). Would that work?
Hi, I have indoor Yucca, she is ok, new leaves keep growing. On trunk there 2 new tiny leaves but they don't grow, how to make them start growing. Thank you

take your wedge type shovel and chip off a piece from the main plant, dig a hole, stick it in the hole with some, oh lets say mushroom compost, water it, and watch it take off, I've done many, MANY like this... the vermiculite one month thing is NOT nesessary
I inherited a small yucca plant in a large pot and an Ash tree was also growing in there as well. My grandfather wanted to rescue the Ash tree and I wanted to rescue the yucca. While wrestling with the trees and the pot the yucca snapped at the base. I panicked, not knowing a lot about them. I put it back in the pot with all the roots I could get and gave it rotted manure. It survived and is still going. Wondering if I cut the top off could I make a second new plant like this video? They seem pretty tough plants.
You will not. I cut off my only one huge overgrown plant that was already leaning from The mother (stomp with the wax on top of it). Did this method without even knowing about it. That's how I do my dragon plant, & spiders. Dreaded doing so, fearing it will die as well. But not at all the mother sprout 3 new buds in about 3-4 months. 😁 The only difference I do is regular soil (miracle grow) instead of vermiculite, and I take out the leaves completely instead of using the ✂.
@@chinarz1353 Thank you for giving me a bit more hope. I Literally JUST cut mine yesterday let them dry then just planted them in cactus soil with rocks on the bottom just a few minutes ago. Got super scared I messed up when seen they used vermiculite instead of soil. I got the miracle grow one as well was what I was recommended to do at the store. Not going to lie and say I wasn't afraid I hurt the mother plant. I just got her not even a week ago but she had so many growths of her I didn't want to loose her other leaves. So I just went for it. Praying it works.

Can I just plant straight to the ground in Root encouraging powder ?
Thanks for this video, our plant has started leaning, think it's time to re propagate.
Thanks so much for such a clear, precise, helpful, beautifully shot and edited video. A masterpiece! Off to the garden I go... 😀
What's the rooting recommendation
I just propagated my Yucca. We'll see what happens in a month! Thx for the informative video!
so.... success?
Matiss Paradise success! I have 4 rooted clones. the mother hasnt sprouted new buds yet. I'm positive something will happen in the next month.
congrats!
Did the mother plant give new buds???
Really well done video showing your plants at different time points. Thanks

The old plant seems to be rootbound. Why didn't you pruned the roots before reporting?
Exactly the advice I was looking for!! Thank you SO much!!
Thanks for the video.Very clear and well shot. What video cam did you use ?
Hi, one question. When you cut it and put in new pot, do you water it same like 1 a week or you need to do it more often since it has no roots ?
How often water vermiculite? Great video thank you!
Thanks alot for preparing this nice video.
Привет! Какая прелесть, все оказывается так просто. Спасибо за видео, познавательно. 👍💐
Dude, I keep it in water, change once a week and within 2-weeks got long roots

Why does the mother plant have red looking roots, is that normal for yucca plants?
What kind of soil mix?
Bravo . 👍🏽
can you root them by placing in water instead of soil?
Can the same thing be done to pony tail palm trees?
What is that black stuff used for sealing the wound, where can I buy it please or even better make it myself ?? thank you.
Sohail Fazal wax, just heat and drip candle wax on it.

can I use Perlite rather than Vermiculite?
What about using perlite?
do i have to cut close to the stem or can i cut further down?/

Alguien me puede explicar como debo Podarla??
Come posso farla crescere in altezza dopo il taglio?
the structure of this plant looks like the massangeana, i supose this propagation/transpant method applies to the massangeana too?
Yes that is a mass cane plant. Not Yucca.
