  • Shakespearean actor, movie star and national treasure Dame Judi Dench's journey begins with her father Reginald Dench, who never spoke of his experiences during the First World War, as she tries to find out how he won his gallantry medals. Judi’s investigations then take a truly epic turn, leading her to 16th-century Denmark and nobility. Judi also discovers, to her delight, some incredible Shakespearean links.

    That scene in the warehouse with the music was like an ‘M’ moment we never had from her in a Bond movie, meets ballet.

    Fun fact: The grandson of Steen Andersen Bille was also nemed ...Steen Andersen Bille. He went on to become an admiral and fought lord Nelson and the Brits two times in the early 1800s.

      My Dutch ex mother in law is the image of her, I always said they were so similar. I’m not at all surprised by this, it’s in the eye shape, the cheekbones, actually they could be sisters!

    I have Danish ancestry as well as Swedish, and that side made the journey to America in the mid-1800s. In the future when I have the resources to go to Denmark I would love to see those archives that they have because I am blown away by how organized it all is.

    I am such a fan of Ms. Judy, I sure wish there was a way that we here in the US could watch this program and others. I actually pay for BritBox and wish this show was part of it even if it is a month or so behind.

      Honestly - dont. I am Danish and can trace my family history back some 15 generations and I swear - we have always, always - found our partners outside the Kingdom. In Portugal, in Ireland, in Germany. I will give you my grandparents as an example: They had seven grandchildren - and our kids have mingled with a German, an Egyptian Copt, a Japanese, an Englishman and a Norwegian.

    • @reinadegrillos

      Nowadays there are experts that say it's better to use hands instead of gloves.

    • @jyc313
      @jyc313 2 роки тому

      I heard an archivist recently say that sometimes gloves dull the senses to what they are touching, and can accidentally damage artifacts in the process of handling them. Interesting perspective, and seems to make sense for fragile items such as paper, etc.

    Some years back, not many, you could watch the whole programme you were interested in, from beginning to end, not this uncomfortable to watch, incomplete system of miniclips the information of which amounts to next to nothing. You don't know what comes first and second. You don't know where and which the gaps are. What has happened????
