@@idanyork After the latest FCP update, they did release a new compatible version of Color Finale so you should be able to update now and have it working again 😄
This was really helpful and full of great info in how to get started in CF. I might have missed the reason for dragging each new adjustment layer to the bottom of the stack. Could you let explain why you're dragging each new layer to the bottom? Thanks
FCP applies color corrections from top to bottom and Color Finale does it bottom to top. My reason for changing the layer order is purely habit but not at all necessary.
Very nice tutorial. It is now my third day using ColorFinale and I LIKE IT. Maybe you can help with these two questions: 1. If I am using corrective LUT, for example, LEEMING LUT, where do I put it, before ColorFinale or the first "layer" in ColorFinale? 2. Editing Apple iPhone ProRAW in BT.2020, how do I set ColorFinale to treat the input as BT.2020?
Glad you're enjoying Color Finale. It's a great plugin! 1. You can put it as the first layer in Color Finale. 2. You would set the clip properties in FCP to treat the clip as BT.2020. You can do it in the inspector window.
Hi, great video. For fast changing scenes and lighting conditions such as a mountain bike trail video that requires constant exposure and color adjustments, how do you set key frames on CF?
As far as I know, you can't keyframe changes in Color Finale. If the changes aren't too crazy, you can cut a clip, change the exposure on the second clip and add a crossfade to simulate the same effect of keyframing your exposure.
Hi Brad! Why do you drag each new adjustment to the bottom? Color finale starts processing at the bottom and goes upwards (just the other direction as final cut does it with it’s effects)
Hey Schmiddy! Yeah that would definitely be a great starting point. I wanted to grade a shot that wasn't going to only be useful to people who would apply a LUT for their specific drone or camera, but rather show how to manually grade the shot so that the principles could be applied when grading any shot. Using the DJI Log conversion LUT would always be a great place to start though 😄👊🏼
Thanks JJ. It's a random shirt I bought in Spain a few years ago, I can't even remember where. Might have been at a "Pull & Bear". Thanks for watching, glad you enjoyed the video!
No, you can totally do that first. It won’t make a difference to the end result. I usually do it later in the process just because once I’ve dialed in my contrast, I can generally see how accurate the white balance is. If it’s minor, I will usually just adjust it by eye, and I find doing the contrast beforehand makes that adjustment by eye a little easier. Appreciate you watching 😄🙏🏼
Thanks for the tutorial @Brad_West. For some reason when I click on my mask, I don't get the tools as you have displayed on the screen around the 5:50 mark. Is there anything I might be doing wrong? Colorfinale Pro is selected in the Final Cut Pro inspector panel.
You're welcome! 😄 Are you possibly creating a different kind of mask to the one I was using in this tutorial? Is your Color Finale plugin on the latest version?
Very cool. I never got Color Finale as I bought Resolve and have been bouncing between FCP and Resolve. But it seems like it does much of what Resolve does. One question I have is, can you save a Color Finale effects preset with all your layers... like a powergrade? Also, I've heard Color Finale is crashing quite a bit on M1 Macs... is that being addressed? Thanks for the giveaway, fingers crossed!
Yes you can. I save some presets using Color Finale like that and it works like a charm. I'm on an M1 Mac and I've never had any issues. I would advise making sure you always have the latest version of Color Finale installed. 👍🏼 Good luck with the giveaway!

Ive been using color finale for a while now, and I'm still not using all the features... Thanks Brad for kicking my butt into gear for upcoming edits.

Yeah it's an old (bad) habit. But you are 100% right, Color Finale's effect order is reverse to FCP's built in tools.
Hey Brad thanks for your good explanations, for what reason do you not use the DJI Log LUT and start the color correction with it ?
Hey Schmiddy! Yeah that would definitely be a great starting point. The first step I always do (in DaVinci) before anything else is correct white balance. Does that matter? I really appreciate your tutorials.
No, you can totally do that first. It won’t make a difference to the end result.
