My parents had this whole special on tape when I was little, and I watched it countless times. Their guide to doing the sounds always made me giggle uncontrollably. They had an amazing stage presence. What a marvelous gift they gave everyone.
Mary, thank you for all of the memories and beautiful music... You (and Peter and Paul) will always define American folk music for me. May you rest in peace.
It always amazes me how Peter Paul and Mary could capture the ENTIRE audience, from toddlers to great-grandparents. I haven't heard some of their songs in 50 years yet the words come back to me.
Add this to my feel good collection of clips. This very clip will help me to defeat any bouts of depression that I may have in life, and I'm bipolar! Thank You so very much, Sommartjejer, for sharing with me a wonderful gift this holiday season.
I was at that concert back in the late 80s. It was so much fun. The entire audience sang along with almost every song. And I mean everyone; young, old, middle aged. We were singing and laughing and wishing it wouldn't end.
@efil4own1isback Sweatheart, They passed it in every concert. All you had to do to get it was to just sit there & join in with everyone else in the singing. I went to one of their concerts in Washington State in 1995 & I had nothing but a blast singing with them! I was working at The MN Renaissance Festival when Mary died & I was stuned. I went back to my tent, got my laptop & dug out every PP&M file I had & played them as loud as I could! I miss you Mary! Thank you for the music!
Really one of the greatest groups to have graced the music world. Mary especially was a special talent and an extremely beautiful lady. I never did understand her costume choice though , especially in her later years . God keep the three of you always
It sounds like the singers and string musicians were feeling warm 🥵, knees beginning to shake and their mind going blank with a sudden 😲 stage fright with a pause
You made me cry... I remembered every Christmas with my little sister. We used to see this concert while decorating the Christmas tree. Thank you so much!! =) Greetings and blessings from Mexico.
All most children, no, ALL children want is safety, love, and a little magic. Ever see the faces of children in the worst war torn areas of the world just light up, when somebody gives them a little candy or a soccer ball or a toy? It don't cost very much. Spread the safety, love, joy and a little magic....wherever you roam.
@k432100 She died in 2009 of cancer...learn your facts and by the way....this was real and not computer generated or lip-synched....and they did it purely to please audiences....if that makes them idiots, then consider the rest of us fans idiots as well cause we know what talent is.

They were so much fun. I'd forgotten how funny they were.

One of my most favorite Christmas songs!
Thank you Peter, Paul and Mary!
I don't believe we'll ever see that decade again.
I love this song. They were great in concert. I was lucky enough to see them about 10 years ago.
Sang this to my 3 month old nephew tonight!! His eyes big and bright as we shared a memory from my childhood :)
RIP Mary, I've always loved your voice... it taught me how to sing.

OMG! I haven't seen this video in over 20 years! Thank you for posting it.
I just re-watched this... Tears in my eyes!
I love PP&M. They always knew how to involve the audience in some way. RIP Mary, you will be missed!

This song always takes me back to my childhood Christmases. Truly a classic!!! I hope my children have memories like these!

Thank you Mary for your contributions to this wold. You made it a sweeter place. The summerlands are that much sweeter now. Blessed Be.
It went zip when it moved.
Pop when it stopped.
Purr when it stood still.
I never knew just what it was and I guess I never will.
LOVED this album!
So did my kids!
Just sent a share to someone who might remember them and share this with their kids.
These guys are such sweethearts, I want em at my b-day party!
This is what performing should be about -- you just don't sing a song you love, but have a great time singing it and make sure your audience does too!
great video! I loved this song growing up!
When you look at early P. P. & M. footage you can see how they were destined to be first class family entertainers.
when i was a kid my big brother would always sing this song to me .i had no idea it was a real song untill now/

I love these guys
Peter, Paul and MAry were one of the greatest groups ever, sadly, there are no longer groups like this.
My mother always used to sing this to me
never caught this one before it is great
My God, this PROVES it!! PP&M were the greatest.
This is great! Thanks for posting it!
I can't roll my R-r-r-r-r-r-s, but my marvelous toy does,
Oh, this is just so awesome!
I recall seeing this on TV at some point when I was a little kid in the 80's. Anyone know when this originally aired?
mmmMatto - 1988
Paul didn't write it I think it was Tom Paxson that wrote it!
RIP Mary!!!
peter yarrow paul stookey mary travers
ah well, these were real performers...
i've never seen a band interact with the audiance like this before;enjoyable for both kids and adukts alike.
@gabeargue1 - Check out Pete Seeger sometime, although w/o children in the audience, it's not quite this interactive.
They certainly know how to work an audience. A touch drawn out but it works well if actually in the theater I guess..

Great performance by PPM. Thanks to Stewball for sending it.
Come back Val Doonican
@hchs98 I suspect the 3 idiots referred to were the 3 (at the time) people who pressed "dislike"
If you want to actually see the toy, go to:
