Is Taylor Guitar's New 214ce Plus the Goldilocks Guitar in the 200 series?

  • For 2020, Taylor Guitars continued to expand their lineup, this time in the popular 200 Series. The new 200 Plus which includes both a square shoulder dreadnought version in the 210ce Plus as well as the perennially popular Grand Auditorium in the 214ce Plus. The new models act as an in-between model in the 200 series lineup, slotting in between the 214ce and 214ce DLX model. To accomplish this, Taylor Guitar dropped the price of the 214ce models and discontinued the 114ce and 110ce models. The plus models features gloss bodies, layered East Indian Rosewood back and sides and a solid Sitka Spruce top. One of the best new features available on these models is the new Taylor Aerocase. Effectively a hybrid case that fits between a gigbag and a hard shell case, the Aerocase fits that in-between need, much like the guitars themselves.Check out the full review of Taylor's newest 200 series.

    I bought a 214CE and found while I liked the guitar, it had a faulty B string sound..(open string sound Im talking about - fretted was fine ) .It went to the luthier who could see/ hear the problem, but could not solve it. The sound of the string went "dung" for the want of a better word, it would not ring true. I have since returned the guitar and had another 2 x of the same model to choose from - one was worse, one was slightly better - and I have taken that one home but playing it, it still has the same "dungy" sounding B string. So, Im thinking is this a common fault with this model ? Anyone else have the same issue ? I have reached a point where I am returning the guitar for a 314CE which I find does not exhibit the fault. Shame really, I liked the first 214 I had, a Koa model but a bad sounding B string just doesnt cut it for a guitar sold for $2000 here in NZ

    • @bertrandguerra7621
      @bertrandguerra7621 3 роки тому

      Maybe a humidity related problem ? I don't know how is the weather right now in NZ, but I know it's summer there so maybe the guitar could have dried out ? When you press on frets 1 and 14, how is the gap above the 7th fret on your B string ? Should be about less than a credit card, but not touching the fret.
      If it is a problem only on one string, you should have a close look at your nut too. Maybe the slot of your B string is a bit too deep, causing fret buzz and/or a weak sounding string.

    • @graantmnz
      @graantmnz 3 роки тому

      @@bertrandguerra7621 note I said the first guitar has been to a professional luthier, who had gone over the possibilities, and could not solve the problem....so 3 guitars with the same issue - tends to sound like a frequency issue in the design. It is ONLY when the string is played open. I have since returned the guitar to the shop and exchanged it for a 314 CE which does NOT have the same issue. Problem solved ( for me, not for the shop with 3 x 214's with dud sounding B strings)

I played the standard 214 and it might just be me but I could tell the Deluxe was the better instrument, especially in terms of playability and the sound when played electrically. Also the case that comes with the dlx is amazing, I would have payed 200 plus dollars for it by itself, fits the guitar perfectly and has a beautiful red velvet interior and feels like it could handle being tossed around at the airport.

The reason is very simple as I would like to suggest to others that people should buy , at least, all solid acoustic guitar whichever brand it may be, however the final brand upon thier choice but it should be affordable as everybody is aware that it performs better as it ages.

    • @truthof7382
      @truthof7382 4 роки тому +2

      thongam Chan Respectfully disagreeable, it sounds good, but not nearly equally as good as high end Taylor’s. These guitars (200 series) have a bowed back for strength opposed to a braced back, among other things which reduces the note separation and gives it a mushier (too much sound) sound in chord changes and progressions. But it sounds good. It’s not meant to be made or sound as good as a guitar that cost $1000. more. These guitars are easy on the fingers to play with lighter gauge strings being the standard. I would recommend for beginner, even if you do a little financing. It will get played more, because it’s comfortable and the electronics are built in, simple and sound great. Most folks will buy and sell 4 or 5 cheaper guitars looking for “the one”, when they could have been playing and improving. The 114ce was fantastic for beginners, but they are gone, as he said. Just adding a counter point and more info. Thanks

The only reliable way at this point seems to be a trip (possibly one or more states away) to a reputable store with a large selection and something to lose; something more like buying a dream car.
