NOTE: I was told the Elements Travel Backpack would be available today...there WAS a delay but it's NOW AVAILABLE...BONUS: here's a discount code for ALPAKA...15% off: JBOS_15
I watched this video like two hours ago and got notification that it was back in stock like 30 minutes ago. Just bought mine as a result of this video.
ALPAKA has really grown since the days they looked and felt more like Amazon bags with plasticy hardware and clunky charging pass throughs. Their pouches especially are some of the best for the $.
I purchased the Alpaka Travel Backpack off Kickstarter with the entire packing system (packing cube, shoe bag and wash pouch), and I agree with the size. It’s marketed as a 32L, but it honestly packs closer to a 30L or even a 28L in my opinion, and all the compartments seem to compete for space when fully packed out. I absolutely love the compression packing cube and wash pouch that came with it, but the Travel backpack is really better as a larger daily carry than for one-bag travel. I also agree with the previous comment about strap discomfort. I initially found the straps and back panel to be super comfortable…UNTIL, I wore it for an hour under a heavy load. Not only did the 3D foam dig into my shoulders, but it actually pressed into one of the nerves on my left arm causing the last two fingers on my hand to go numb! I love the aesthetic and innovation from Alpaka, but the functionality missed the mark for me. Have you reviewed the Alpaka Shift backpack V2 or the WNDRD Transit Travel Backpack 35L yet? I have the both and find them to be much more comfortable and versatile for my needs. Might be great options to check out and would love to see a video comparison between the Alpaka Travel Backpack and the Shift v2! 😁
I got this one on Kickstarter and I'm not a fan. There's no stretch or give in any of it, so capacity is shared between compartments - fill one, and it destroys the usability of whatever is next to it. I can literally fit more in my CPL24.
I honestly was a little disappointed with the travel backpack from Alpaka. As it is a little weird the way is designed and I struggle to fit a suit for example with shoes. Pouches from Alpaka are great but I think they should work more on the backpack designs.
I have that Alpaka and the #1 let down are the shoulder straps. They don't sit as well as GORUCK or Evergoods, and not as comfy once loaded with weight. The rest of the bag in VX42 is excellent!
@@JBOutside1 I'm ok with the pattern, but the foam and how the straps sit under load is nowhere near as good as the other bags. BTW the swing tag that came on my bag said 32L, not sure why market it as 35L as it's clearly not.
I have the Alpaka. The main thing it is missing is a good quick access pocket like their Elements Pro. Im definitely going to be making an Evergoods purchase soon.
Sooo other pants get washed before 72 hours? Even my jogging doesn't get washed that often... Like jeans hell, never. And from the moment there is a lot of other stuff than merino. It will smell just the same. And it's delicate to wash as it's wool. The spec sheet shows only a small difference but if you look at them side by side I'm not surprised the ctb carries more. It looks a lot bulkier. Is that irl the case as well or just on camera?
I agree with you on pants. So far these Proof 72hrs have held up well as travel pants and compete well with my others that I have in rotation. As for the backpacks, yeah the CTB is definitely best in category for hauling stuff AND allowing easy access the other pockets. Not even close.
@@JBOutside1 im waiting on my ultra litespeed before pulling trigger on it just because ive never felt ultra before. If all goes well, ill get it too. You doing vid on it? Or not sure yet?

Totally agree!

All good stuff and I totally agree. Those two are not planned at the moment but I’ll certainly add them to the queue! Thanks for the tips

I can see all those points for sure
A shame. EG dedicated spaces work superbly.

I had the same experience with shoes
Could you do something around optimal carry-on gear while working within a 7 kg weight limit please.
I’m definitely planning on a “Carry On” specific video soon
Awesome review. I already own the elements travel backpack and watching this video makes me want to find an excuse to use it this weekend. Subscribed!
Glad it was helpful! Go out and enjoy!

They are definitely a different style but I kind of like the pattern
