Imam Ahmad bin Muhammad as sawi al -Maliki رحمه الله (D.1825AD) said under Qur'an 18:24:- "It is not allowed to do Taqlid of Madhahib other than the four even if they appear to agree with the sayings of Holy companions (Sahaba), Sahih Hadiths and the Verses.Anyone who deviates from these four Madhahib is "MISGUIDED AND MISGUIDING"... because to accept only the apparent meaning of the Qur'an and hadith is the "ROOT OF KUFR". -[Tafsir al-Sawi under 18:24]
Shah Waliyyullaah ad-Dehlawee says in at-Tafheemaat ul-llaahiyyah (1/206), "You will see the masses today, in every region, restricting themselves to a single madhhab from the previous madhhabs and they think that a persons leaving the madhhab of the one he follows even if in a single matter is like his having left the religion, as if that (Imaam) were a prophet sent for him, whom it is obligatory to follow, whereas the first scholars and the best generations, before the fourth century had not used to restrict themselves to a single madhhab." So this matter has caused the people to fear and to behave foolishly and therefore misfortunes and party spirit have resulted.
The layman had no madhab. He simply follows his local reliable scholar. For example, placement of hands in Salah is hugely differed upon even amongst salafis. Ral Ul Yadain is as far as i know a sunnah which if left does not invalidate the prayer. We also must remember that the madhaib are a convenience for laymen and in those times literacy amongst the masses was very poor. The solution is building a culture of seeking knowledge.
why didnt imam shafee or imam ahmad stick to imam hanafi's madhab For an extra knowledge salafis follow the quran and the sunnah according to salaf ( classical scholars including the scholars of the madha) but we dont stick to one scholar Whilst the hanafis shrink themselves to follow one imam
If a person reaches the level of ijtihad he doesn't need to follow others and it is very important and necessary for a non-mujtahid to follow a mujtahid

I follow Sh Uthaymeen. In his books he never goes against Madhahib. If he does, he clearly demonstrates his reasons. Uthaymeen is considered a Salafi. Hence, Move away from labels and study objectively.

Moreover we read the books of SU as a guide under another scholar. If you read SU he is a Hambali. However he does go against the madhab in some circumstances in a legitimate manner. Yeah the hanafis r only ones who show fanaticism towards that school. They are proud to fo taqlid which literally means blind following. Close your eyes and without thinking or seeing evidence they take blindly whatever the imam or school says even when it opposes or contradicts the authentic hadith of prophet pbuh. Taqlid or salafism? Aka blind following or following the salaf who are the 3 pious generations that came after prophet pbuh. Pretty simple choice right?
