My only issues with the Wagoner was that they were made with cheap materials. I loved mine but the rattles and squeaks from a very premium SUV gave it a very cheap feel. The seats and V8 engine were the best parts of this Jeep. I had mine for just over 5 years and by the time I traded it in I only had 22,218 miles on it. I treated that thing like a baby but at the end of the day all of the TLC I gave it didn’t matter. It still fell apart. My next SUV purchase was a 2011 SRX4 2.8T and I absolutely love it. As of 1-15-2022 I’ve got 31,681 miles on it and it’s in perfect condition. It’s amazing the difference in build quality. The Wagoner was the premium SUV of its time but it shouldn’t have had the cheap feel to it like it did.

I traded it in on a new '99 Limited spec'sd out almost identically but I didn't like it nearly as much as my old one for some reason. I just never got comfortable in it. I traded it in on a new '01 land Cruiser and I still have it actually. It only has 109,000 miles so it's not even broken in yet !!
I love the wood paneling and the little fog lights out on the bumper. I wish they still had vehicles with wood paneling. Plus the new Wagoneer isn't as nice looking as this one.
Ahh, I miss SUVs that are capable offroaders, have some luxury features, and look like actual SUVs without being $60k to $100k or more. I heard Chrysler only made this for a year not because of low sales but for the leftover allocation of woodgrain from the old Jeep Grand Wagoneer and Chrysler Town & Country minivan
Looking at this old show about the Wagoneer, just makes me want to continue on keeping and restoring my 2002 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo! Not a V-8, but a V-6 and still rides good! About $3000 would get it all done, just a fixed income makes the job slow. But not impossible 😅!

Not a fan of wood paneling, but it looks pretty good on this. Pretty ridiculous markup though from a loaded Grand Cherokee which was pretty much identical in every other way.
My favourite Jeep vehicle of the 1990s...gotta love that CD player at the 2:45 mark, which adds to the 1990s nostalgia, replacing the audio cassette format which was dwindling in popularity by that time! BTW, the Cherokee nameplate needs to be retired by Jeep due to being a name of a Native American tribe!
"Sporty 225 series tires." My dad's 2015 GC has 265 series tires and they don't looks overly wide on his bloated pig. The early 90s was the sweet sport for Jeep. It goes through ignition control modules so often we keep one in the glove box.
W H A T ? A CD player? This new Laser Optic equipment powered by the force of electricity? Secretly build by Gov, based on alien technology? In a Jeep?
I consider myself lucky, I have the 98 Grand Cherokee 5.9 limited, and a 1990 Grand Wagoneer, im not rich enough for the new 100k Grand Wagoneer, I do see alot of things brought to it from the original that people keep missing, they overlook alot of stuff brought over, and just complain about the lack of wood paneling. Im sure there will be 3rd parties out there that can add wood paneling to it. If oyu have the money to spend 100k im sure you can spend money to get some vinyl put on. But yea the new wagoneers arent that great looking, they might have added some things from the original but they missed out on alot of other features i would have implemented as the designer.

Man, I still feel like 30k is still a lot of money for a new SUV 27 years later! I'm not sure if I will ever spend that kind of money on a vehicle, especially since most of them lose their value so quickly. Better off buying cars 5 years old for 1/2 the price of new.
Toyota Tacoma, 4runners, and somewhat highlanders hold their value insanely well. The 4runner and tacoma will still cost damn near as much when 5YO compared to a new one, even before the chip shortage bullshit

I think 90s Chrysler products are some of the nicest looking vehicles ever made. Grand Cherokee, Chrysler Cirrus and 1999 Town and Country Limited are some of my favourite looking vehicles
Corinthian leather 🤣
Fine Corinthian leather bahahaha!
@Sam Jones still owned by the same company though lol
Corinthian leather patented by Ricardo Montalban Mr Chrysler
My dream! Love love love this car, I hope I can find a restored one some day
1:58 ahhhh good times.. 3900ibs suv meanwhile my small 2014 lexus IS is 3700ibs ... SHEESH. cars are fat these days
Yeah but if you crashed in this SUV, you'd likely be seriously injured or die.
If you crash your Lexus you'll probably walk away.
As a car enthusiast I wish we could go back, but as a realist I know why we've ended up here
justrtm me too,, that and all this other equipment
Sad truth
@@CrossingRover i doubt that IRL You have more chances in IS than in SUV.
If Yes - does not need to be directly connected with the mass of vechicle.
Cars are too heavy.
My 1997 e39 540i 6 speed weights a little bit more than your Lexus(my car is a little bit bigger but you have more tech in your car). So cars were pretty heavy back in the 90s too.
Awesomeness every time I watch this 🇺🇸💪
The real Jeep collectible
Jeep grand cherokee briarwood
Jeep cherokee xj briarwood
Man, i miss these days..
I never knew there was a grand Wagoneer grand Cherokee trim level. Now I hope to see one on the road, 27 years later.
Good luck
They were sold only 1993
@@TheJetJONES Haven't seen one yet 😆
@@alpaljl Me neither 🤣
I heard Chrysler only made this for a year not because of low sales but for the leftover allocation of woodgrain from the old Jeep Grand Wagoneer and Chrysler Town & Country minivan
Really should have included a bench seat in the front.
EWWW NO!!!
Yes definitely
Looking at this old show about the Wagoneer, just makes me want to continue on keeping and restoring my 2002 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo! Not a V-8, but a V-6 and still rides good! About $3000 would get it all done, just a fixed income makes the job slow. But not impossible 😅!
The 6 cylinder is a far better motor than the 4.7L V8 that came in the 2002s, id personally sell it for a few grand and get a really clean loaded low mileage second gen with the I6, they're hard to find buy do exist.

Nothing to see here folks
Just a 90s guy doing 90s things in a 90s car
Not a fan of wood paneling, but it looks pretty good on this. Pretty ridiculous markup though from a loaded Grand Cherokee which was pretty much identical in every other way.
Its satisfying how John davis for motorweek is still alive even today. Even jim davis.
Been waiting for this! Please do more like it!
The new one needs a woody edition.
God no.
I like the interior ass-pillow option bring that back
Please, tell about Chevy Blazer 95-00, or Deville 97-99/00-05 (7,8 gen)
My favourite Jeep vehicle of the 1990s...gotta love that CD player at the 2:45 mark, which adds to the 1990s nostalgia, replacing the audio cassette format which was dwindling in popularity by that time! BTW, the Cherokee nameplate needs to be retired by Jeep due to being a name of a Native American tribe!
5.2 318 or 4.0 inline 6 best engines ever made don't work hard for a living easy 250k miles
"Sporty 225 series tires." My dad's 2015 GC has 265 series tires and they don't looks overly wide on his bloated pig. The early 90s was the sweet sport for Jeep. Earlier ones are rust buckets and horrifically unreliable and thirsty. Later ones are just horrifically unreliable and thirsty. Note: I own a 1977 Wagoneer with a four barrel carbed 360. It goes through ignition control modules so often we keep one in the glove box.
W H A T ?
A CD player?
This new Laser Optic equipment powered by the force of electricity? Secretly build by Gov, based on alien technology?
In a Jeep?
Jon Davis rules!
Adjusted for inflation: this bad boy would've cost 60k today! Phew! But I tell ya what, I would kill to have one and those seats look like lazy boys!
I remember this Jeep Grand Wagoneer. It's too bad the name disappeared, apparently replaced by the Grand Cherokee.
Love these retro reviews, are you going to stream seasons again? I miss it.....
I would love that.
yup, they were awesome!
The Italians/Fiat have killed the Jeep brand. I wish an American company would purchase them and get Jeep back to its roots.
Sweet, a tape job and non exclusive engine package. Great job Jeep, you nailed it!
Hell yea another new video!
Love tho jeep grand Cherokee and Grand Wagoneer lots of power for the time
Kinda cool even today
Whew buddy these things were some freaking dogs. 90’s Chrysler *shudders. I used to sell these things new, and they were POS rated from the factory
Nice coat !
эх,нового такого бы!в 93 уже диски сд были!и салон шикарен.на моем wjтоже неплохой..
Those seats look like my grandma’s couch
Only lasted for the 1993 model year..
The back door like a toyota
Here’s something I wish I had known before buying one of these with 200k miles. Electronics break
I'd go with the regular cherokee with 4.0/manual ...
But yea the new wagoneers arent that great looking, they might have added some things from the original but they missed out on alot of other features i would have implemented as the designer.
org gw was 108.7"wb 186.4 L. . 75.6 wide not full size ,it didn't have 3 rows, as lot of us have no need for a 7-8 pass family car .new one need s rib roof and the same rear 1/4 panel windows hate the new ones d panel / rear side 1/4 window up tick look s like all the rest
@@youtubecarspottersguide1 original is fullsized. Compared to cars of ITS TIME it was massive. Hense why its called a Fsj fullsized Jeep.
Also its got 90 cubic feet of cargo room when the bench seat is taken out and 75 with it in. A modern Grand cherokee has only 63 i believe.
I own one lol. Compared to modern suvs its about average. But to say it isnt a fullsized Jeep based on modern standards is silly. It was massivly bigger than any Jeep of its time for 30 years. And still bigger than its replacement the ZJ Grand Cherokee.
Next collectible if it isn't already
i'm very surprised the MSRP was 30k for this almost 30 years ago. A base 2020 Grand Cherokee right now is 32k and although it doesn't have leather and V8, it has a lot more options than this thing did. 30k for this 27 years ago was a ripoff! In an inflation calculator that would be $54,000 is todays money...
6500lb tow rating?? Imagine the pucker factor of actually towing a 6klb+ trailer with that little Jeep....
Holy crap, just did a conversion... This was equivalent to $54,000 today. Granted it's nice, but idk about that nice
True, but a GC Summit fully loaded is $65k! And that's BEFORE we start talking the SRT models.😬
@@hellkitty1014 very true. I own a grand cherokee laredo from this generation (ZJ) and granted, it doesn't have the leather, heated seats, or sunroof, I cannot see one of these being worth that much new. You could get a lot of cars for the same price that I would much rather have (as would a lot of other people as I have never seen one of these on the road)
Does anyone know the name of the song on the radio at 2:53 ?
Move it on over by George Thorogood
Notice how you never see first generation Grand Cherokees on the roads anymore
Man, I still feel like 30k is still a lot of money for a new SUV 27 years later! I'm not sure if I will ever spend that kind of money on a vehicle, especially since most of them lose their value so quickly. Better off buying cars 5 years old for 1/2 the price of new.
Toyota Tacoma, 4runners, and somewhat highlanders hold their value insanely well. The 4runner and tacoma will still cost damn near as much when 5YO compared to a new one, even before the chip shortage bullshit
Really cool
Those seats look like conchas. Now I'm hungry 🤤
Basically just a trim option.
1993 Grand Wagoneer and 2021 Grand Wagoneer
Didn't know about this one 🤔
Those seats look like padded sleeping bags
