    Motorweek was always so insistent on having an instrument panel that included Voltage and oil pressure. It was almost a make or break thing for them.

    • @vulekv93
      @vulekv93 3 роки тому +14

      Back then engines and bateries weren't as reliable, and having an oil pressure and voltage guge was a big deal. Engines need oilnpressure to keep the krankshaft from grinding over it's bearings, and low voltage means alternator or battery are busted.

    • @weegeemike
      @weegeemike 2 роки тому +7

      I love having them too...feels like a lower level, lower class vehicle when you didn't have them. And like others said in the comments, back in the day it was important to have those gauges to see if your old carbed engine with a 100k mi lifetime was about to take a shit and needed a rebuild or if your maintenance-required battery or short life alternator needed attention.

    I had a 1989 Bronco at one point, it was one of the best trucks I've owned. I foolishly traded it in on a XJ Cherokee. One of the worst automotive decisions I've ever made. I really miss that Bronco.

  • @MrMenefrego1
    @MrMenefrego1 5 років тому +14

    In late-'88 we bought one new, (since it was ordered with the large engine and some other options we had to wait)... unlike the one featured here, the paint on ours was very even with no orange-peel. That poor Bronco was beaten mercilessly, both off and on-road! We used her for off-roading, or 'Bajaing' as we use to call it, towing the old 35.5 Bayliner, for moving furniture and heavy machine parts, just about every other use you can imagine; but she took the abuse in her stride! After 12 years and 175,000 miles she still ran very well and no major work was ever needed on the entire powertrain. However! lol... She sure showed the massive abuse in dents and scratches. I bought it after owning an indestructible and quite astonishingly fun to drive, (American style "Farfegnugen") little 1974 Bronco, it was a bit had to get use to the massive size of the larger Bronco, but all-in-all it was well worth the high, at that time price. So sad to see how U.S. auto manufacturers have downsized their offerings to only a few models now. I miss the virtually endless models and different package options they use to offer. I know it's an overstatement but, "One size fits all", now.

    I had a 91 with a 351W. I miss it every day. It finally just got too rusty, too worn out, and I got a 98 Expedition to replace it(not in 98) The Expy does not share any attributes with the older Broncos, and don;t let anyone tell you they do. 91 was last year for "non crunching frame" and it was SOLID. With some mediocre AT tires, it was also 100% unstoppable in snow. It could tow reasonably well.
    Late 80's Ford trucks had the most comfy interior ever. Something about the seat height and width, the shape and function of the dash and wheel, dashboard height, windsheild rake, ease of view out the sides, it was just a big easy truck to drive. I was a little annoyed at the complaints about seat adjustment. I owned mine for 14 years and never adjusted it once, or wished I had the ability to. When an interior is designed so well, there is little need for customization.
    Their MPG estimates were low. I got 17 hwy all day.
    There is a reason these sell for over 10 grand in good shape nowdays. There is nothing on the market like them, nor will there be again due to safety/mpg restrictions etc.

    My first vehicle that I ever bought and own now is the 1988 Ford Bronco XLT. I needed a vehicle and wanted something in terms of a truck and when the opportunity came I got one. I know the bronco is not a perfect vehicle but, my bronco runs great regardless of the year and miles it has been driven. I really enjoy driving this truck and plan on building it up over time. By upgrading the mechanical and body specifications to make it run and look good forever. Just my personal experience, opinion, and ideas about this truck I am not a expert on broncos and vehicles in general but, wanted to share my love and ideas about this great truck.

    For a full sized truck, it looks like it didn't dive a lot under braking or have much body roll under cornering.
    Passenger seat that tilts but doesn't roll forward, and driver seat which roll forward but doesn't tilt, oh how times have changed.
    The front bumper is lower on the passenger side, which is funny. Press car problems?

Nothing that you couldn't fix yourself in a few minutes, but the way the bumper mounts, it is difficult to align and KEEP it that way. Lol. When I was less than 8yrs old, my dad, mom, n I where in our 84 Bronco with the 351W, we were cruising n then they asked my sister a question, she wouldn't reply, turns out she wasn't even there, I was holding on to both seats looking thru the windshield so happily, then all of a sudden my dad hauled ass n my lil ass got glued, thrown to the back seat so fast I couldn't get myself to hold on to the seats anymore.. I tried but couldn't, and remember me feeling the huge amount of pressure of all that torque pushing me against the seat, till we reached my bro's friend n his fam which also drove a Bronco but from the 90s n he got next to him n asked if she was riding with them, he answered yes, n all was good..lol Damn I loved that engine, funny how I never wore the seatbelt..lol My dad ended up cutting them off..lol No worries, that truck could never flip over, stiff suspension, unlike the Explorers..lol I also remember my dad at a red light, it turned green n a white lady in a Miata tried to cut him off n make a left turn, well you know how that went, that Miata skidded all the way to the opposite side of the 3 lane road n it looked totaled, somehow she got out n came to me n asked me if I was ok, I said "yes," but in my head I was like, "lady, I should be asking you that, getting in front of my Bronco like that, I was afraid you were dead"..lol The Bronco was scratch free, dent free, the same cant be said about that import..lol They don't make them like they used to, damn insurance companies..lol
