@PHOENIX RISING I really don't see too many of those anymore. Speaking of Oldsmobile, for some reason I'm fascinated with wanting a Cutlass Cierra, one in absolute mint condition though.
My 99 has 230k miles on the 4 bangers and my 2002 has 255k miles on the v6, such great cars, before i bought these two i had a 91 accord with 200k miles. All 3 of the cars still run an incredibly smooth.
i totally forgot how nice this model looked in stock form. i still see them around but theyre all modified in some way. the front reminds me of the es300, its the headlights and the honda emblem on the hood instead of the grill
@Abdul Hafiz I'm split between them, they both look good. I like the later models' simpler taillights (clear/white on top, red below instead of the clear/white section through the middle) except they didn't change them on the wagon.
Amazing. I’m surprised we don’t see more of these 90s accord on the street. I still see a 90s Camry every go often, but rarely an accord. It’s alway surprising to see how small they are compared to the current generation. Now It’s hard to imagine how an average family was able to fit everything in them.
wasabi9111 - There’s probably fewer Accords left because they had interference engines. If the owner didn’t change the timing belt on time (which many didn't), bye-bye engine.
Also for many years, these 90's Accords were often ranked at or near the top of the list of the most stolen cars in America. Many of these Accords were probably stripped down for parts and that's why you probably don't see these Accords too much anymore.
@@Wasabi9111 In my hometown of Galion, Ohio there are a lot of Honda Accords from the 90's. Understandable considering the fact that the Honda Accord has been assembled in Marysville, Ohio since 1982.
I had a 94 EX sedan auto and have a 95 EX manual, and if I could find a low mileage sedan with a 5 speed, it may be close to the perfect form of fuel-efficient transportation. In the meantime, I'm going to take the ABS off the 95 and take it SCCA'ing.
Great car, I had a 95 v6, it was trouble free, always ran full synthetic oil and changed the transmission fluid and filter every 60,000 miles, i sold it to a friend at 180,000 miles, he still has it and his daughter now drives it at 247,000 miles!
My 97 Accord was the first Japanese car that I bought in 18 for $1500. After some needed mechanical TLC, it nicely filled the shoes that were left by my 98 Oldsmobile 88 that I had going on 12 years before taking it off the road due to the front sub frame rusting out. The Accord has never let me down.
same man, here in the bay area there's still lots running around, though less than before. i frequent the junkyards and these are still coming in en mass like crazy, meaning they are barely now getting off the road. impressive.
I had an EX-L manual. One of my favorite cars ever. Original clutch made it to 200,000 miles. Apart from a radiator, brake master cylinder, clutch slave cylinder, cv joints, and maintenance items, no other repairs. I bought it with 113,000 miles already on it.
Still miss my '97 Accord Ex coupe. It was totaled a few years ago from someone running a red light into me. That was a fun car to drive and very reliable. Handling was fantastic.
My ex wife had this exact car in 1994, except it was black with gray leather and the gold emblem package. 15,000 miles later it had a worn clutch and busted timing belt. Honda refused to fix it under warranty until an attorney got involved. Funny, I got the car in the divorce and had no more clutch issues! Lol
Between this car and the 1992-96 Camry, the Big 3 officially lost the midsize sedan war, for good. The 1995 Chrysler JA cars, 1995-00 Contour/Mystique, 1996-04 Taurus/Sable, and 1997 N-body and W-body models were vastly improved over previous models, but couldn’t come close to providing the all-around quality, refinement, economy, content, reliability, and resale value of this generation Accord and Camry. This time period was the time Honda and Toyota pulled ahead and stayed there, for good.
my 1997 EX is still running and shifting great! Original shocks, drivetrain, everything! At 278k miles! These are awesome cars and as much as I love my 1990 EX with 330k for its higher quality materials inside, the 1997 steering feel is so nice and almost German.
Had the lx for 11 years . Always regretted not getting the ex. Just for 1500 bucks you got 15 more hp , sunroof , rear disc breaks , rear stabilizer bar , aluminum sport wheels , better exhaust can , better stereo , more interior features .
Back in the 90’s, I didn’t care much for Hondas as my parents both drove Nissans. I do, however, remember my little brother’s godmother buying a ‘95 Accord EX sedan in black. She loved the dam thing so much, she went back and bought a ‘96 model, same color, because the tail lamps were different. I personally think she was just addicted to the understated elegance of the car and a fan of Honda automobiles of this era, in general. If you were lucky enough to own one of these, back then and even today, people would always compliment you on your vehicle. When my cousin and I became of age, he got the ‘94 EX sedan in that popular hunter green color, and that was my official introduction into the brand. For a while I desired to own a Honda, and almost bought this car in 2008, but me being more of a driving enthusiast went with a maxima because I felt Nissans offered sportier designs. This was still overall a great car; I remember my 2nd grade teacher buying a brand new gold LX model with the 5 speed. She was so happy to be driving that dam car 😁 😅
I loved my 97 Accord Lx Coupe with a 5 speed. Had it 17 yrs and then sold it to my buddy . it only had a little over 98,000 miles. He put over another 100k on before he sold it. I love my 2014 Accord
While this was as usual, a great Accord ( I never bought this vintage, I bought its predecessor and successor ). It wasn't the narrow arrow like, styling that is a hallmark of the Honda Accord
“The all-new Accord doesn’t look much different than last year…” cut to the next 2 minutes where John describes in detail all the major changes that actually made the car look completely different than its soap bar-like predecessor. LOL.
Bought my 94 EX for $4000 with 175K miles. Sold it 15 years later for $1000 with 450K miles... still with the original engine, trans, catalyst, muffler and accessories. Only ever needed regular maintenance and minor parts. The girl complained to her dad about buying such an old car with high miles and his response was, "Shut up! There's a reason it has 450K miles"........
Still my most favorite car over anything for many reasons One of my childhood heroes was my mom’s ‘97 Accord, and that car led me to become an enthusiast Rip Accord LX 1997-2016
Maybe my eyes are biased, but this is still a really nice looking car and in my opinion, better looking than the 2020 Accord by far. Honda seems rather lost these days compared to the 90's when they were on top of their game.
I agree. I think the 90s was the golden era for Japanese cars. They were so much better than the rest for the price - from Honda, Toyota and even Nissan.
Honda made great cars but this car running from only 1994-97, was ridiculous as was the 1986-89 and 90-93. Finally, they got with the program for the next generation, going from 1998-2002.
For some quite obvious reasons, I’m really doubting that my ‘15 Accord LX-S 6 MT sedan will outlast one of these ‘94 Accord EX 5MT sedans….. Hell, even the older 4AT option for this 2.2L I4 engine will outlast the modern CVT option for it’s Earth Dreams 2.4L I4 engine.
I test drove one of these looking for my first car, was pretty low mileage but it had quite a few issues, didn't seem to have been well taken care of. Pretty good looking though, if that one was nice I would likely be driving it today.
Nice car but for my money, the 626 V6 or Contour V6 would be my choice because of superior handling. For less money, Altima SE would also have better handling and power. None would last as long as the Honda tho-Nissan would come close.
the 626 v6 had a horrible ford auto trans though, they had shit reliability and were essentially disposable. i don't even see any more of those or even early 2000's 626s anymore EVER, never mind on the road. i did like them though, they had sharp styling starting from the rounded 90's model to the sharpened model from the 2000's. I never paid attention though, I still have a 929 and 626 always seemed like a cheap imitation of it. I loved the contour's styling but the interior quality and reliability was garbage. i still want an svt one for fun though.
My mom had a 1997 one of these with the V6 and the auto...it reallllly was not a good car. Not very fast, poor mileage, poor transmission, cramped inside, no CD player despite it being the top end EX-L for $27k new, not very good brakes, didn't handle very well, didn't ride very well, AC condensation drain got clogged constantly and dripped water on the passenger's feet when going around corners, etc. It was our family's first Honda after extended family having them and loving them since the early 80s, but this gen Accord was one of the very worst cars we ever owned. I strongly preferred the Accords that came before and after this one.
I had a 95 Accord, same color as the video. It had so many issues that should've killed it, but it refused to die. Unfortunately, a drunk guy slammed his Silverado into my car and it was totalled :(
Totally agree! And what's more, I think Toyota/Lexus were leading the charge. Since then, it's been about tech and safety innovation. Design and reliability was totally achieved in the 90's.
Neat. I kinda like them too :) My first new car was a black 1990 Accord EX Coupe 5sp then got a new black 1994 EXL 5sp. I'm about to redo my 1996 heather mist Accord EXL Coupe 5sp. I never bought another new Accord after 96 because I didn't like them much until 2008.
I remember buying this exact car (except in Dark Green) with my dad back in 94. It reeked of quality. Made GM cars look like complete pieces of ass next to it.
I think the Chevy Corsica and the Pontiac Grand Am would be the Accords competitions. The Corsica sucked but was reliable as hell. It was the car you wished would die but didn't. The Grand Am was pretty cool especially the GT model.
Bought a dk green Vtec new in 94, manual , loved that car , faultless , great ride and handling , with that great kick as the cam rolled over at about 4500 rpm , correct me if iam wrong . Traded it in 98 on a Prelude Vtec as the new Accord was the bigger USA model and did not handle as well , here in OZ we like tight handling . Strange in OZ by the early 2000 we had the big USA sourced Accord optioned with a V6 and the smaller Euro model from Japan which was the better car .
My high school girlfriend bought this same car with the manual and then had to learn how to drive it. I liked driving the car so much I married her 14 years ago! The car's body didn't hold up as well 😊
I had one of these in college. Loved the 5 speed. I think the 94 accord was actually smaller than a new civic. At only 3000 pounds you could really throw it around. Although I think the 91 accord was quieter and more comfortable on the open highway. I miss the era when a car this size with a 5 speed was a standard people mover.
i own both generations currently. the 90-93 is marginally louder and the ride is more stiff. the suspension parts are all interchangeable but the tuning was adjusted for this gen and made a noticeable difference in comfort. the 94-97 steering also got much heavier and communicative feeling, compare dot the 90's EXTREMELY light and numb steering. 94-97 feels almost European in comparison. the one area where the 97 falters compared to the 90 is interior quality. the door panels for instance are much nicer in the previous gen. the door handles are all metal in the previous gen compared to flimsy feeling plastic. the headlights were glad on the previous gen and the newer ones were plastic aged in the sun. overall materials on the previous gen were top notch, but the newer gen benefitted from a well designed integrated console and cupholder design the prior gen lacked.
I'm proud to say I own one and am building it into a perfectly reliable daily driver that I can take to car meets and get a bit of street cred (lowered, wheels, full exhaust, custom paint work and headliner)
The '94 Honda Accord was literally one of the best cars if not the best car ever made. These are still on the road 25 years later. Mid '90s era Accords go 500,000 miles with just basic maintenance.
I have a `95 with only 71k on the clock and in almost showroom new condition. I inherited it from my Great Aunt who bought it new. Fantastic little car.
I’d argue that all 1990-02 Accords can make it to 500,000+ miles, considering how well built the F-series engines that went into these cars. Fun fact, a fellow by the name of Joe LoCicero had a ‘91 Accord LX that made it to 1,000,000 miles!
@@1985oldsmobile I've had a 94, 99, 03, and 07. I am finding some 2003-07 with over 400,000 miles. The K24 can do some serious mileage. Our 2003 V6 has 295,000 miles right now. With proper maintenance and care they can go a long time.

I never knew anyone with a accord till I just got mine lol and I'm so glad I got my accord over throwing the money into my 95 mustang I honestly prefer the Honda
It seems performance of modem cars has been unbelievably improved, but the reliability is just not in the same league of cars from the late 90s to the early 2000s. It's a bit unnerving watching guys like Demuro and Hoovies, talk so glowingly about modem cars, which are littered with recalls, engine sludge, and electric problems.
Just a good high quality, superbly engineered, attractive, sporty, reliable, high value, efficient, car. I would buy one now over this current lot that look like tropical fish.
I have a 2012 and it’s pretty much the same model since 1990, it has the last automatic transmission.......in 2013 they switched to cvt and the more radical design. I got 120k on it and it’ll probably go for another 120k.
I remember one of family members used to have a 1994 Accord LX 5-speed manual in the same color as the one shown on this video. It had plenty of space plus an antitheft alarm system and a CD changer underneath the front passenger seat.
My 2nd Grade teacher had a gold one in LX Trim. I remember the first day she got it, she was so fricking happy! My parents drove Nissans so I was no real fan of Honda & I thought it was the ugliest car I’d ever seen. Little did I know Ms. Jackson knew something we didn’t; BEST BANG 4 YOUR BUCK
The new (current) Accord is also an excellent car. The styling may polarize some but that just means it is interesting...the way the new Accord drives and handles is sublime. This coming from a Mazda guy.
I have a 2020 Civic and the build quality just seems like a downgrade from my dad's 2010 Civic. Hopefully Honda stops the cost cutting nonsense and improve the fit and finish for the upcoming Civic.
@@asdfghjqwertyu1858 2010 Civics were plagued with build quality issues (especially paint and trim), your dad must have gotten a real gem. That's to say I do love my 2010 Civic flaws and all lol.
Brandon Walker i still think the eigth gen have better build quality than the tenth gen. I dont like how honda has been doing cost cutting in their cars recently.
hondas from the 90s were way better build than the current models. all the cars came with front and rear double wishbone suspension not the cheap macpherson struts they use today. only problem with these era hondas were they are easy to steal

I've owned over 40 Hondas 1990-1997 coupes,sedans,and wagons.
Go VTEC go manual transmission and you will never be disappointed!
Jeff Bezos still keeping his Honda Accord 1997
*my top favourite sedan* 😍
Solid transportation.
Ah back when the accord wasn’t bloated, and was still available with a stick!
Oregon Driven the accord still comes with a stick
Manual trans will be discontinued after 2020.
MotorWeek - Actually they’ve already been discontinued. They stopped building them last December, but didn’t even mention it until July.
@@Motorweek oh wow haven't noticed that thanks motorweek
I had a 95 Accord, same color as the video. It had so many issues that should've killed it, but it refused to die. Unfortunately, a drunk guy slammed his Silverado into my car and it was totalled :(
Can you please put the 2000 tahoe/ yukon review? I cant find it anywhere
great car stylish and beautiful
The best-looking Accord
90’s Hondas were the pinnacle of Japanese engineering reliability
Totally agree! And what's more, I think Toyota/Lexus were leading the charge. Since then, it's been about tech and safety innovation. Design and reliability was totally achieved in the 90's.
The design still looks good 25 years later
They need to bring it back
Back when Honda was at its best
@@JD-yh2on I'd buy it!
@@FELIPE8226M Absolutely!

That was my 1st new car in Coupe EX-L trim! So fun to look back at these old Honda reviews
Wow, I am looking for one now to restore your must have been absolutely beautiful
@@robnation2475I'm jealous. EX-L 5-speed coupe is by far da rarest coupe fo da U.S. Too bad I can't find a clean coupe in Hawaii 😭
@@cd7ex Thanks! Hope you can find a coupe at some point. When I race (autocross) the leather can get kinda slippery though! :0
Cool man
A coworker just bought a 2020 Accord EX and while it's nice, I prefer the simplicity of the 94-97 body style. Timeless and understated.
I remember buying this exact car (except in Dark Green) with my dad back in 94. It reeked of quality. Made GM cars look like complete pieces of ass next to it.
Probably cuz they were lol
Reliable Corsica? Are you on drugs
@@sneakerfreak2002 nope. With proper maintenance and no driving it into the ground, the corsica could last pretty long.
All time best Hond Accord with that timeless design!
The Acura TSX(Honda Accord in Japan and EU) is nicer.
I agree with you one of the best Accord ever desing
basshead first or second generation?

No matter what gen.
@@jareknowak8712 Honda coupes are too girlish.
My high school girlfriend bought this same car with the manual and then had to learn how to drive it. I liked driving the car so much I married her 14 years ago! The car's body didn't hold up as well 😊
How's the girlfriend's/wifey's body holding up? 😉
I hope she see this.
Great story, great woman sounds like a keeper!
Barrister H I bet she driving the NSX now
Does it need some body work,, a new paint job, polish and wax?
The Accord is always has been less boring than the Camry.
To this day I’ve always found the accord a more solid refined pick over the Camry in my opinion
Big Rig agreed
Big Rig I have a 2009 with all the options and the 2009 Camry is trash in comparison

Best interior ever.
Everything you need and nothing you don't!
I was just thinking how I miss interiors like this.
I was looking for this comment.
Absolutely!
Ok boomer
Agree with you TJ.

The 90s was the golden era of Japanese cars.
Well this is an excellent way to start my Thursday. Thanks Motor Week!
My uncle had one of these and would never shut up about how great of a car it was.
Just a good high quality, superbly engineered, attractive, sporty, reliable, high value, efficient, car.
I would buy one now over this current lot that look like tropical fish.
I bought a 1995 in 2004 with 67kmi on it for $5500. Drove that car for 16 years and put 200kmi on it. What an awesome machine.
Better style than today’s Accord, smaller than today’s Civic, and I like the dashboard design.
Yes! That dash design was so pleasing.
Americans keep getting fatter...then complain when the updated model comes out that it's less roomy than the previous model and priced higher...🙄
I have a 2012 and it’s pretty much the same model since 1990, it has the last automatic transmission.......in 2013 they switched to cvt and the more radical design. I got 120k on it and it’ll probably go for another 120k.
Yes. I hate the large Speedometer in the middle and smaller tach to the left. Both of equal size was much more visually appealing.
I love the new accord.
I remember one of family members used to have a 1994 Accord LX 5-speed manual in the same color as the one shown on this video. It had plenty of space plus an antitheft alarm system and a CD changer underneath the front passenger seat.

This Accord aged very well. I learned how to drive manual on my buddy's 94 Accord and it had 600 THOUSAND miles on it.
This era of Honda > New Honda.
