I'm loving the moss! Everything is looking lovely!loving the harp!
I look forward to your videos every week! ❤❤
Wow! You taught your sheep to shake hands! So cool & beautiful. 🐑😊
I’m dying to see these sheep sheared! Not only shake hoof
Omg your sheep giving you the paw, so dang cute ❤
The moss around the steps looks beautifull, soft green and hard grey stone,.. they compliment each other.
It does it looks lovely and right at home
I love the mossy path 💚 it will soon settle in and look like it's been there forever 💚
Have you read the Moss witch by Sara Maitland ?
I'm sure I'm one 🧙 x
Beautiful, so tranquil and idilic. Thank you so much xxx🇬🇧
You’re welcome 😊 Kx
Yes beautiful music
Lovely thank you
So very beautiful ... everything. Harsh weather and difficult terrain but still so peaceful and stunning.
Those clouds looking toward the mouth of the sawmill bay were magnificent - such a huge sky! There's just something about these videos that makes me breath deeper.
I whole heartedly agree🙂🙃‼️🇨🇦
Loving the steps! Can't wait for you to say "My thyme has come" lol
The moss is a lovely splash of color against all that gray! I enjoy following along on your walks - it's all so incredible!
... I wanted to add the sheep waiting at the door 😅
That's where her dinner comes out from! LOL Kx
Totally transformed that step area with the moss, well done-credit to you 👏👏
Oh now I'm dying to see the sawmill. How exciting but frustrating!! Jeeves seemed rather pleased with his box, perfect fit!
thats beautiful what Katie is doing with the moss, so clever..
Hello Scott & Katie….. lovely episode full of the promise of spring, can’t wait. Katie you have such a lovely relationship with your sheep, they seem very intelligent and calm… you are giving them such a wonderful life they are very lucky indeed. See you both soon xx❤❤
I wish I lived close to u, I would love to come help. There is nothing like working the earth, Gods wonderful gift to us all.
Aw, thank you. Kx
Thank you for the apple tree pruning lesson. Great points!!! And I never knew sheep could be trained to do tricks! Eager to see the sawmill in spring ~♥
Yes, she gives a "paw" and headbutts! Kx
The colours are so lovely , & the moss around the steps is such a great idea. Who would have thought about training sheep 🐑🤷♀️. So lovely to see . Very relaxing to watch . Thankyou .
The moss is going to be so perfect, especially with the thyme growing in between the cracks and such. I love how Katie works with the sheep - love the "handshake" or giving a paw, and the head butt is so cute. There is truth in what you say, Katie, regarding the center part of an apple tree. My grandfather kept 1 tree and was very diligent about trimming it and it gave the best apples for years and years. And the little ones would climb it because there was an open spot in the center with the vee of the tree trunk, where they could sit and read a book and on one would know they were there. Us older kids were not allowed to climb the tree as we were too big for it to hold, and we could have broken off one of the larger branches. Does someone try to control the deer? It seems there would be an over population otherwise. Loved Scott "striking a pose" at the end of the video. Looking very noble and very Scottish, I would say.
Amazing scenery and way of life!❤❤
The place is looking good my lovelies, and it was so good to see our fluff muffin babies. They are so sweet and funny and cute.. and they really are living the dream (: Cannot wait for the next installment xx Teresa ❤🇦🇺
The moss addition to the front of the cottage looks amazing. So green and fresh looking with the grey stairs . A job well done. So enjoy the harp music as we tour parts of the island. Incredible landscapes. Shaking hands with your sheep. How special is that. Love it!!
I love moss as well ❤ I love tuxedo kitties too❤ I think I love moss because it reminds me of green velvet ❤
everything is looking so good, you two have to be the hardest working couple on UA-cam
You never fail you always learn never believe you failed
Another lovely and interesting vlog…. again for sharing x
What an interesting place of discovery. The vista's and stone formations are amazing, along with all the lovely kinds of mosses. Watching from South Dakota, USA.
I always follow the 3 Ds damaged, dead, diseased remove from fruit trees, lovely video x
J'adore vos brebis, vos chats et votre mode de vie.👏😀
Me Too
Great video,thanks from 🇨🇦
Borrowing skills That is a great share
I can feel my shoulders drop every time I watch you and your sheep ( very clever sheep at that ) and cats on the beautiful Scottish Isle . Look forward to when you get your lamb and bees and loved the shots you have taken of Spring on its way with all the new shoots and buds . Before you know it the midges will be back 🤣 ( think you’re safe for a while yet ! )
🙋♀️❤️. The island is magic!
Katie I love how lush & green the moss looks so natural like it was just growing there! Scott, that was a cavern, I wouldn't want for you to fall into! Have you thought of having a dog companion...would be great & learn to get along with & protect your "whole family of critters, including you on your solo walks.
The moss fill looks amazing and another glorious dimming of the day.
Lovely vlog as usual, Scott and Kate.
The moss was a beautiful idea. As a fellow lover of moss you may be interested in the book, Gathering Moss, by Robin Wall Kimmerer. Great read.
I am very much looking forward to your bee adventure! I intend to learn much from you, Kate! Thank you so much for sharing your interests.
Very much enjoyed it, as always! Cheers!
I love moss it is so soft😊
Moss gives oxygen ❤
How atmospheric...
Beautiful islands
The steps look beautiful.
I love the moss, the colour just lifts the path. Beautiful. ❤
This is an artists dream. Nature at her most majestic.
My late mother used to make sweaters for me from Icelandic sheep. They have different colors.
I have some Mahonia shrubs growing in my yard in Alabama.
Lovely to see your snow drops blooming already. Might’ve just broken through the ground spring is around the corner.
Absolutely stunning.
I’ve seen that deer will gobble up any fallen apples from your trees, which is kinda handy if you’ve got a lot of fallen fruit that can’t be salvaged
Hi. Talking about mead. When we went to the isles of Scilly. We met a potter there who made mead. He was often seen riding his bike, lets say swaying along on his bike 🙈🤣🤣. I bought a mug from him, lovely chap, who insisted we christened the mug with mead. 😜.
The light there today shows the views up beautifully. I would be in heaven living there. But my husband would hate it. 🤦♀️. Xx
Katie, I love hearing you talk about gardening. You’re so knowledgeable ❤
Learnt from the best. "You just do this..!"
Love the moss! It softens the edges of the hard scape.
Looking beautiful... We grow our apples along a trellis. That makes it really easy for picking . L o l.. We have to go through when they First, put fruit on and thin them out. So that the remaining fruit Grows To its best.. Otherwise, you just get a lot of little ones dropping off Anyway, and not a nice harvest. I love your orchard. It should give you many years of joy watching it improve as you tend to it.
I think I is going to do me some onions! Thanks for lovely lady. Excited!! Helen from Scotland. Xx
I love moss. I call it nature's carpet.
The propagation pods we call them jiffies in Australia & are really good to start off seedlings
Love the video
Would like to see more of what your going to do with the large cedar tree that fell
Katie, did your grandmother teach you those skills? And Scot, don't be too disappointed about not achieving the sawmill.
"Better safe than sorry." It's uncharted territory. Not "failed." Explored.
The Laird of the glen …great beginning .
What an amazing job you have done with steps and rockery , it will look even more beautiful in the spring summer . The photos are really amazing and clear spring is definitely almost here 💚
Katie I love your interaction with the sheep ❤😊.
Loved this as usual the island is going to burst into spring soon. Love the moss and love your wandering Scott can’t wait for the kayaking
Looking great! Love the moss…
Katie great job on the apple trees. Did mine this month too. Now you make me want to plant. Scott keep trying to reach the area you are after. You will get there. Both of you are great. Thanks for the beautiful content.
I came across your channel 2 days ago while i was ill in bed it is such a pleasure to watch such calmness of beautiful scenery and the gentle music which brought healing to my bones you both are amazing and i continue to follow your progress x
An accolade indeed. Thank you very much; it's just what we hope our viewers can get out of the videos. A bit of respite. Kx
Treatment for cutting board to maintain lighter color. 1) made by MinWax. White Wash Pickling Stain a water based formula. Clear sealer after this application per direction on can. My husband used this and it worked perfectly. Good Luck.
I share your love for moss, Katie- but mine didn’t do very well. I am sure yours will survive and thrive! ❤
I hope so. The stuff I laid months back on the other side of the steps has done fine, but does need watering on occasion. Kx
Great video. Cannae wait for spring time!
Hello,
I love your vlogs. I look forward to them. They are a few minutes of peacefulness and serenity for me.
I live in the USA. I just moved to the mountains so I can explore and enjoy the gorgeous nature. I am also a huge fan of moss.😊
I was wondering if you could put fencing around the cavern holes so deer don't fall down in them?
Good luck to you in your island ventures. ❤
Hi from sunny Nairn. A long reach lopper would be a good bit of kit to get for those high branches. All the best
The moss is beautiful and not something that will grow in Southern California. Nor will most things you have. Love the sheep!
The moss is lovely! A few years ago on You Tube I came across videos of ancient moss gardens in Japan. If you haven't found them yet, it's worth a look. Amazing balance of human tended and completely natural! Also, when trimming trees, try sawing the underside of the branch first, about a quarter of the way through the branch. Then, starting your cut from the top, saw downward to meet up with the first cut. It will prevent the branch from breaking due to it's own weight, and leaving broken wood which will be more prone to disease. The best of luck to you with your trees!
Lovely video to watch
Hope it doesen,t rain so much as in Holland pfff 😅love to hear about the island and what you bin up to til now xxxx
Evening pray all is well😊
That's some seriously old moss and even tho' you shifted it - it still looks like its grown there :)
The stuff I moved on the other side of the steps earlier last year has fared well, so I thought I'd just go for broke! Kx
If you’re moving the moss pads from the woodland I hope they survive being moved to the exposed coastal part.
Just spent 10 days catching up your channel after finding you. Brilliant. Wondered how do you get your mail and parcels delivered?
All the post gets delivered to our delivery box (old barrel!) on the mainland by the gate, where we also have our wheelie bins. Then we technically become our own posties to bring deliveries here. There actually used to be a postie still coming to the island on a row boat as recently as 50s/60s. Thank you for watching all the episodes!! 🤗 Kx
Thank you. Keep up the good work.
Pruning, the 4 Ds, Deformed, Damaged, Diseased & Dead. Is how I remember.
Basically any branches that cross over another branch or inwards to centre of tree. Make bays so a ladder can be stood up to pick fruit too.
Is what I've been told.
Katie you have given me more confidence to prune our apple trees this Autumn thank you 😊
If you're in the northern hemisphere, you'll want to do it this month while they're dormant... Kx
Trimming your trees to just above an outside bud might help.
Apologies for repeating myself but are you aware there is a project to preserve the native British black bee? This bee is not the popular common honey bee which was introduced from Europe. The ideal location for a colony is somewhere not near to the European variety to avoid genetic mixing. Your island might be ideal if you were so inclined. There are colonies on the Isle of tiree and native queens are available online. Just a thought.
Could you imagine a more perfect place.
❤️
Hi there as far as I was told many years ago was 3 main branches for fruiting trees only.
I can't imagine how much effort it takes to get these shots...You need an elf with camera skills...
Great job with the moss! Who Knew? Also, I enjoy the music you play with your videos, as I am sure others do to. Would you consider doing a scenic video with the music. Maybe and hour or so in length. The scenery, the music and you two are just great! Thanks for sharing your hard work and videos and lives with us!
💚🌿
Much prefer you two together on the screen instead of each alone
I love the smell of heather ❤
Lovely to see spring springing forth! Is there a story behind Katie's bracelet?
A preset from himself. Wee Viking ships... Kx
@@TheScottishIsle That's what I thought they were! Lovely❤
Is that a triangle shawl, criss crossed at the front and tied in the front? I really like it and would love to make it. Would you be willing to show how it's made and how you wear it next video?
I also love the styles of the dresses you wear. Is there a name for that style? They look so comfortable, practical, and warm. The island is beautiful and your work is wonderfully inspiring.
She posted a link for the pattern a few weeks ago
Here's the pattern for the shawl www.handylittleme.com/outlander-shawl-crochet-pattern/ Yes, you just cross it over and tie it at the back. It's nice and cosy. The dresses are from a company called Banned Retro; they've got loads to choose from online. Thank you for watching. Kx
Would love to know where this is. So beautiful.
The moss is a great touch with the stone steps and pathway. Curious if you forage for shellfish around the island shore, mud flats, and rock pools. All the best !
We don't eat shellfish, but we're keen to get fishing and feed ourselves that way! Kx
Scott i like how you have a spirit to adventure,,i would be the same😊
I know people who make their own mead. The one I tasted was chilli mead. I think maybe mead is an aquired taste.
What a laugh, a sheep shaking hands and head butting Katie's hands. I've never seen anything like it... 😂😹🐑
Love your channel❤BTW, I’m curious about your bracelet, is it ships?
Viking ships. Kx
❤
for getting across mudflats you can make boot plates out of ply wood ,attach them to your boots making sure they are quite large compared to your feet and can use them like skis to get across ,the larger the area of the wood the more weight they can take as it spreads the weight over the wood
Another fabulous video guys....so enjoyable and interesting, as always. Katie thank you, you have taught me something I didn't know about apple trees. I have two but every year the leaves are diseases so I have brutally pruned last autumn...kill or cure I suppose. Talking about tress I was wondering how much of the land on the island you own and is the whole island owned by anyone personally? Might be a silly question but when you chop trees down do you have to ask for permission from anyone? Thanks again for sharing your incredible lives. P.S. The cats really are living the dream...love Jeeves in the box.
We don't own the island, we have the pleasure of taking care of it in the owner's absence. We can use our discretion with the trees, but we wouldn't chop an oak or Scots pine down for firewood unless it was standing dead. Kx
👍
Find out your next neap tide so you can get round the coast to the sawmill.
