I don't know why, but the campaign missions where you didn't play as special forces, and instead closer as a "regular", were always the most atmospheric and immersive for me. Now it's all just SAS/CIA/other elite unit type operations. I really miss these types of missions.
I liked how MW2 expanded on playing as a "regular". Yeah, Rangers are Special Forces, but it felt better fighting a large scale conflict than partaking in CIA/Covert Op types of missions

Ironic considering gulag would be one of the few missions where a helicopter being taken down easily would have been acceptable considering the sheer amount of bullets and rockets filling the air. But here was a good example of how useless untrained hands are at shooting down helicopters with unguided explosives.
Pretty sure "Stack up" means you gotta get behind/next to Vasquez when he puts a breaching charge on the door. Also, DO NOT stand in FRONT of the doors since a breaching charge can actually kill you

CoD biggest mistake was making a battle royale. Battle royale are so overrated and there is no storyline. They gave us a complete multiplayer craps with no campaign.
I like when missions starts with helicopter deployment where you sit at epic Black Hawk (especially if have a good view), then it landing or dropping ropes and you deploy at ground...

They got The Gulag mission on mw2 but that wasn't cool like these missions. I got goosebumps when music started all the time
This is what you call a raid in the military and youre very much right. The feeling this mission had was godlike and hasnt been perfectly replicated in any cod since. Idk if its cause we experienced such a great thing when we were young or if they just couldn't do such a great job a second time

Cause in every COD game since MW3 you've been some kind of secret squirrel spec ops guy instead of a regular grunt in a believable conflict. COD 4 had a good balance of you being a Marine grunt in the Middle East and an SAS operator. Too much lone hero aspects in the new CODs.

A stealth operation would have done the trick in both getting the intel and getting the hell in and out of there faster than a city wide sweep. But i get it's supposed to look cool.

They don't - the Marines use the UH-1Y. I guess the game devs wanted a US chopper that they could use for both the US & British missions (instead of making a specific one for each) so they probably went for the Blackhawk due to both its widespread use and that they didn't figure the audience would tell that the Marines don't actually use it
The Marines do not own any Black Hawks are far as I can tell, but I know guys like recon and such will use the Navys Sea Hawks and the MARSOC guys will definitely be riding in 160th Special Operations Aviation Regiment Black Hawks

We ride/ fly in Blackhawks, Seahawks, Ospreys, and just about any other bird that can fly. We also ride in helicopters named after fish.

Whats interesting about this scene is that Marines are riding in UH-60 Black Hawks with 'United States Army' printed on the sides. In real life Marines don't use UH-60 Black Hawks and the Army isn't present in the game
