Not many people know that this guy can also play fretless bass like Jaco Pastorius (OK well almost), when he puts his mind to it. This is one awesome musician..
This is absolutely phenomenal! The guy is totally fearless and always delivers sounds of surprise - that IS jazz. He's got the devil-may-care improvisational approach of his old buddy Jaco. The spontaneous detuning at 3:45 is incredible, I don't think I've heard anyone else do that apart from McLaughlin
I appreciate it whenever a guitarist actually takes the time to unleash his creative potential rather than simply noodling the whole time. It's crazy how he could detune his guitar so precisely and use it effectively as a counter-bass to his melodies. This is what I call inspiration.
you can't listen to this music...you have to feel it! this is some of the purest cleanest comunication from one human to another you will ever find! no filters, insecurities, or fears, so natural yet surprising. Django would be so proud that this music lives on inside people like us and bireli
C'est de la magie , j'ai mit un an pour retrouvé cette vidéo que javai adoré !!!!! Longue vie a toi Bireli !!! Et que la musique soit toujours avec toi !!
A guitarist clowning around playing games for the children. Very funny and entertaining. He is very loved by his audience and that is great! I never am disappointed when watching him show off.
I can not believe I only found out about this guy now... I figured before I saw this "well, I've seen pretty amazing things." This.. This is... the tuning part is absolutely .. divine.
the real genius of this man is not his technique or his chord vocabulary or any of those things in themselves. the beauty of it all is that he's making music out of it. you may know every bebop riff there is or every chord form out there but that doesn't mean you'll have anything meaningful to say. it's not only about what to say but when to say whatever it is you have to say.
As much the technique, it's his total melodic understanding that is amazing. Bravo. I'll never be this good, but it's still inspiring and makes me want to practice rather than give up.
I also rarely listen to jazz and just improvise sometimes with a mate but: this guy is great! his chords are so.. strange but fantastic! he has got a great technique and also a feeling.. I like it!
he started with 6 years. now he is 43 or so very long time :) in germany at the Palatia jazz festival he played with his band. it was PERFECT ! but theres no video on youtube :-(
@sukmyback One of very few songs in my life that have literally moved me to tears in their wonderfulness. Last one was Echoes by Pink Floyd. Not at all the same thing, but they had the same effect. I didn't know manouche jazz until a friend gave me this link, possibly to stop me enthusing about Rush and 7/4 time signatures.... Thanks so much for uploading.
I know its art, not a contest, but if there was an Intergalactic Guitar Competition, I want Bireli representing Earth.
Funniest comment of the year for me, thank you ! :D
or Frank Gambale. Another alien.
this guy was born playing... many hours of playing plus talent and enjoyment of doing that will get you there in 20 years or so
Not many people know that this guy can also play fretless bass like Jaco Pastorius (OK well almost), when he puts his mind to it.

My grandma was his teacher. He often brought his guitar, which was far bigger than him, and the whole classroom was listening.
