I installed Amerimax leaf filter guards on the house last summer. Six months later I can say they seem to be working out just fine. Only water seems to be making it's way into the gutters and downspouts. The needles do pile up in spots on top of the filter but I can just knock the piles off with a broom now and then. The needles do not seem to impede run off to the gutters.
One year later- total success. The needles were kept out an dthe only thing that could get thru was the grit from the roof. No more problems with backed up down-pipes or underground drainage pipes.

This product does a fine job. It filters out almost all of the crud. It has been maintenance free and has never been blown off the gutter since installation.
I am installing it on the rest of the house gutters.
The initial short stretch of gutter had a leak issue and was replaced with a gutter with a built in grid but no screen.
