Yes, it's a tight track and most traffic goes down hill only. I'm glad you found my blog, I'm fairly new at this but have been 4Wheel driving for years.
The first time I was there some bikes went through, it looked like a few of them found the river hard going. But I've seen videos of red rocks and that would be harder.
I'm not mentioning anyone either, but my sister and Jeff probably park next to each other at the supermarket ;) Great to see someone using a new truck how they're supposed to be used. I perfer steelies, have them on my 2nd Gen Surf, why don't you like them?
You got a have a laugh now and again. The only reason I didn't want steelies was its a new vehicle, so just the look of it. My 96 surf came with alloys and I had no problem with them in the 24 years I had that.
@@realneilsadventures fair enough, they are good looking rims on your truck. I run steel Black Trak rims with BFG Ko2s on the Surf. I live rural and that truck is set up to get me to and from work in the city in the middle of winter. Snow, ice and flooded rivers, 50km each way... My commute to work is one of the things I love about my job.
so you didnt pay your $20? Robyn and Malcolm put alot of effort into keeping the track safe and open not to mention that if you have a mishap its them that come to the rescue, as you say its one of the best tracks around here
The first time I went though there was though their land and Malcolm showed us around, the history and maps etc. This was a last-minute thing finding the bridge was easy, I would need an address for the farm and I wanted to drive both ways though the tunnels so I just stayed on the DOC track. Next time I will see Robyn and Malcolm and get the map and explore the aera more and check out the tunnels you can walk in.

I have also watched a lot of mattsoffroadrecovery, and am so pleased that we can drive these tracks because otherwise I wouldn't be seeing these back country places. Thanks for Commenting.
I'm happy with the ironman lift, a friend of mine changed from ARB (old man emu) to ironman which he believes is better suited for NZ conditions. I think I will be swapping out the running boards for rock sliders.
@@realneilsadventures Fair enough, just seems a bit odd to drive a massive hulking gas spewing 4WD through this beautiful place, especially when you're driving in the water and stuff, Im certain theres wildlife you're disrupting by doing so..

We took our Fortuner through this track April 2023 and my mate did it, also in a Fortuner, a year prior. A great drive
I'm pleased to hear other Fortuner's are hitting the tracks, I haven't come across any on a track yet.

If you do get a 4x4 join a 4WD club, you not only learn the correct way to do things you learn where you can do it.

Hell yeah, I would love to bring a KLR-650 down here and do this track, not long ago did a portion of the Red Rocks on one

I have done Napoleon Hill on my KLR. on road tyres (metz Sahara road tyres) wasn't too hard,

Hi, how long are the tracks? How meny is there
What I did was about 10km in total including the return. So about 2 Km up the river and 3 though the tunnels and up the hill then return.
How are you finding the ironman 2" lift? Thinking of getting them myself. Cheers.

So you don’t recommend the Ironman side steps, I’m looking for something for my Fortuner.
As the panel beater said, they are side steps not rock sliders. I might have just been unlucky, but I'm probably going to change them.

It is quite narrow, e.g. most parts in the tunnels I couldn't get out my door

Not everyone can walk 10km along a track, NZ has plenty of walking tracks. In my younger days I did a few and highly recommend them,
