- A homemade polar planimeter.
A planimeter measures the area of irregular shapes and is used for maps and technical drawings. This instrument is made from wood, brass wire and some plastic gears.
It achieves an accuracy of 2.5%.
Hi! Do you have any plans or instructions that you can pass over? I would like to build one too
Sorry, I have no plans ready for the planimeter, but the construction is not too difficult. The length of the two arms does not really matter, and you will have to calibrate the device empirically. You can also leave out the second counter wheel (for the 10s), which makes it more simple.
When I was a teenager totally wanted to design buildings I was fascinated with all things included
I wanted to go to Albany for graphics design
Where are you? Will you ever come back?
So the ratio of the spur gear to worm gear is 10:1?
Can you please tell me what are all the materials required for making this.
How about a hatchet planimeter made from coat hanger wire? Thanks for the post!
Excellent
