Tape House Drills: CQB Drills You Can Do Anywhere
Вставка
- Опубліковано 10 лют 2025
- This video describes 5 ways to address a center fed door. To really get something from this video, you need to pay attention, and you need to have watched some of our other previous videos in the Intro to CQB playlist.
Things this video doesn’t show specifically: hallway considerations, flashbang use, cross coverage, dead space, adjacent space, white light/low light, moving to search a downed target, 3rd/4th man considerations, linkups, multicell clearance…. and about a hundred other important things that just aren’t within the scope of what’s being discussed.
Limitations of this type of training: it’s a paper target guys. It can’t move. It can’t react. There’s no walls, we can see the target prior to movement. That’s fine, this is a micro drill working a few skills, not a scenario.
Drills that work specific skills are very useful. In these drills we are putting a lot of fundamental skillsets together. Footwork, body posturing, non verbal signaling, processing, shooting while moving, and more. Scenarios or “Exercises” address larger scope training such as a full real shoothouse with live role players and non lethal training munitions, allowing for the opponents to shoot back, human error in movement and reaction time, surprise of the target or of the team via unexpected movement, distraction devices, etc etc.
So please understand these drills are just the live fire reps of drills that should be done dry and with non lethal ammo (sims, airsoft, etc) many many times before doing it live. Don’t do this without supervision and don’t do it with people you don’t know/trust.

Who tf is this trained killer talking about Dora the Explorer and Leroy Jenkins in the same breath? Finally someone that speaks my language!
The hallmark of a quality instructor is relating to your students.
Retards unite 🍻
Ladies and Gentlemen, I present to you THE best CQB channel
Tell ya friends!
I’d have to 2nd that!
While in the Marine Corps, 20 years ago, I was in an infantry company and we were taught CQB from a former Recon Marine. When we were in Fallujah, our tactics were adjusted on the fly and we ended up coming up with our own, rudimentary, ways to clear a room/building, which often included frags, JDAMs, or an AT-4.
These are lessons which were tightly held by cool guys and rarely shared among us knuckle-draggers. I love seeing a much more refined product available to the masses for education and application.
Cheers.
Rah.
Dirty civilian here, I've never heard anyone who's been downrange speak about room entry like this before. But I figured that's what you would do during a Saint-Lô/Aachen/Hue situation. High intensity conflict = high intensity tactics. If you have to enter, frag the room, spray it with the SAW or automatic rifle, do your SLLS, if enemy still occupies the room, rinse and repeat until desired outcome is reached. Room entry tactics that were taught in this video are for that moment when it's time to take the room.
That's MOUT LOL
@@rodvikvr Not sure what you're trying to say with your comment. Yes, CQB is the micro combat tactics to MOUT's macro combat operations.
No no no this is all wrong, frag then blindfire the 249 or 240 into the room then frag again then commence entry while firing into corners, this way you dont have to deal with either enemies nor civilians because theyre all DOA
This is by far one of the best instructional videos on CQB I've ever seen. The methodology of the way you gave the course was extremely easy to understand. All the camera angles give a great perspective to see who it's done. Love it.
Glad it was helpful!
it's xbox and movie fantasy
it is ecks bocks and movie fanta C
Ive been 11B for ten years and this is some of the best stuff Ive seen.
Hey, I'm already a cool guy, but always eager and willing to learn. Watching/viewing/analyzing/absorbing/digesting your vids, I'm like a Tacti-cool sponge, sharping my frame of mind and skill sets. I serve coffee, tea and ass whooping.
As a sawmill operator, I really hope those logs in the background don’t get brought to me. Nothing kills a $30 saw blade like a piece of lead or metal. Let alone 50 or 60 pieces of lead ! good video guys. Hoping to collect enough sky miles to get your way for some training.
Still the best on the Interwebs regarding these entry methods.
I loved this method of instruction! Looking forward to seeing more videos like this!
More to come!
Appreciate the work y'all do for society.
was looking for a proper CQB video to write a short movie script instead i found a full well, detailed university course on CQB (smiles) thank you so much for this now am stucked i would dedicate myself to listening and watching your videos and practice in my backyard, i can protect my family and write a good script. thank you Sir.
I really appreciate you guys putting out these high quality instructional videos.
"Mom, can I get a shoot house?"
"No, son, you have a tape house at home."
The sad reality of many units 😂
You are a great teacher. I’m going to come take a class in person.
Awesome video, really. Hope to see more of cqb content in the future. Extremely valuable.
Fantastic lesson thank you 🙏 ❤
I like crossing first and opening the gate for the second man. We have trained the same side entry but I don't like the buttonhook. The foot work always gets me.
Love it. Brilliant presentation.
Excellent, truly educational content. No fancy camera angles or smoke and mirror terminology. Keep it up!!
damn we use to do these in Basic. cheap way to train. cool seeing it still working 15 years later.
Way to lay this out so clearly Jared. Thank you
I like this video because it compiles all of the theories together. It's funny because I don't have cqb experience except for some very rudimentary concepts, but on my own I've thought of some of these concepts just while sitting on the shitter and it's cool to see that somebody already developed them lol.
nice rep
Aamazing content guys, but this land yall are on is absolutely ridiculously awesome and I couldn't take my eyes off it!!
Great discussion, and nice flow of movement. There are a few things I would mention however. As you pointed out structure clearing is VERY dangerous, and there are many variables to consider. In my opinion, and based on my experience there are two schools of thought on this. One is the military process in which you have to ask the question, "Do we need to clear the structure"? Is it our primary mission objective, or are we clearing enroute? Where as for LEO it tends to be the main objective.
This is important because if it is not your main objective why take the risk? MOUT, military operations in urban terrain are a pucker factor of ten as it is, and your best friend is good intel on the area or structure you intend to clear. If you are going in blind it gets even more challenging.
Two things I have almost never heard covered is; doors and furniture. Do the doors open in or out, which side is the preferred entry, from strong side or weak side. A dynamic entry on an empty room is one thing, add a door that does not open all the way and a room full of furniture (Cover/concealment) changes the game considerably. Often times the SOP gets augmented or changed completely based on real time events. At the squad level repetition is mandatory, I have had squad/team members trip each other in the doorway, or been so focused on getting to their corner that they mis threats within the room.
As you said there is no, one way fits every situation in CQB. Team/Squad safety is paramount and must be the first concern.
Great job, guys. Thanks for a such good video.
Another great video full of great information. Thanks guys!
Excellent and easy explanation, big thanks 🙏
Sua didática é fantástica, com bastante detalhes e a forma que você explica se torna fácil de aprender. Parabéns 👏🏽💀🇧🇷
Definitely love the many ways you guys presented the information give the viewer a well rounded idea of what you’re trying to convey, great video guys 🤙🏽
Another great video. Keep it up.
We will!
Awesome job I love all three teaching points. Thank you
Id like to see a video that covers hallway movements, movement to the room, or large spaces
We have more on hallways on our patreon
Well holy shit this is a fantastic video. Gives me a better understanding of breaking it down for a solo clear if I need to clear my own house and property.
Excellent instruction!
Amazing as always fellas
Good stuff the format is awesome
Stellar information!
hmm no crayons I see we have graduated to markers lol (inside joke), great videos, btw good breakdown on how different people learn.
I used to be the MOUT instructor for my company during Sgts time training (about 15 years ago now) I did the engineer tape shoot houses and I'd tape different colored pieces of construction paper to the side of a building in the motor pool for my "super high speed urban movement course"
Phenomenal breakdown 👍👍👍
Have you seen anyone push into the unknown section of a room (see 13:40 discussion) based on the dominant hand? If right handed, it's normal to want to move to the right side, and vis versa. If so, any thoughts on breaking that habit?
And definitely at 37:00 make sure you do this with people you trust, and even then, do it AFTER you've walked through the thing with pew-pew hands.
This was one of your best productions, in my opinion. THANK YOU!
No, making this about what hand you use is silly. Non issue.
Glad you liked the video!
@@oriontraininggroupllc2782 Reviewed this again. Just a thought, y'all had a glass house, but, you missed the "hallway". Would have been helpful to see an approach to the door on a standard 36" limit.
Loved the discussion.
@@oriontraininggroupllc2782 It's actually not directed at the hand of approach. It was more about how the body reacts to certain situations. If you're a lefty, you naturally move one way. If you're a righty, you naturally move the other. I wonder if there's a way to address the habit? Glad you understand combatives and psychology though.
Awesome content, letting us into your knowledge.
That was an awesome video
Can't wait to get the money to train with you guys in BR. Been watching for a while and interested in getting even deeper into it.
Thank you 👍👍👍👍
*WATCH THIS VIDEO* If you want to learn, I mean truly learn some incredible skills and techniques, this is hands down the best instructional video you're going to find. The entire process from white board to live fire provides an invaluable amount of knowledge. These dudes are top f*cking shelf! Huge Thank You to OTG for their time and efforts producing their videos as well as providing them at no cost to the viewer. God Bless America...and no place else! 💪🇺🇸🦅
Thanks fellas
Well done.
Thank you for the content!
Ok. Wtf. This is great. I love this.
Excellent!
Congratulations on the video! Really nice content! When the 1st operator pans the doorway to the right he has the rifle on his left shoulder.
Would you recommend shoulder switching or not at all?
"No such thing as bad student, only bad teacher" - Jared from Orion Training Group
Im actually just using this video to get better at a video game.
If dude is under the couch with a PKM the first thing making entry is a couple frags. Lol
“That’s a joke.. about my ass” 😂
Would yall ever do this style video for corner fed rooms as well?
Yep
Good music choice
This was a fantastic video, very easy to understand. I was relatively familiar before but this definitely added to my knowledge. Speaking as other situations like a tight hallway or some obstruction. Would being lefty be a benefit to have as a first or second man depending on the situation?
In the real world you won’t be able to game it like that. Be proficient moving left or right, as a left or right handed person.
As to the question about engaging the target in the middle of the room and then, do you enter or not? I would say that depends on the kind of walls that you're dealing with. Sure, overseas you're going to deal with sturdier walls that actually provide cover for most small calibers. The problem is that if you engage the target in the center of the room and you DON'T enter, and those walls are only concealment and not cover, you're inviting them to simply start spraying at you through the walls because you've already set the terms of the engagement dynamic by losing the element of surprise when you engaged. As with all things CQC the answer always is "it depends". If you have thick solid walls, sure, keep working from the outside. If walls are basically paper like in the US, you'd better get your ass in there and do work because your odds of survival start dropping every second they know you're there and you don't plug them.
Edit I also want to add that again, "it depends" on whether or not you have reason to believe they will be expecting you. The center room target is great in my opinion, because it is often not covered or mentioned much by people teaching CQC. I even noticed former DEVGRU and CAG who seem to just ignore the center as if it doesn't exist. That flies in the face of years of experience that targets who aren't expecting you are likely to be somewhere near the center of the room. If you've already lost the element of surprise and they are barricading or preparing for your assault, then they are more likely to be in the corners. Center-fed rooms with targets in both corners are basically your worst-case scenario, because that means they know you're coming and the cut is what's going to F you. I have a completely different type of technique for dealing with this situation personally. So, if you have element of surprise, your center is priority. If you lost the element of surprise, check center but understand corners are likely your biggest threat priority.
If i start a petty argument in the comments to boost engagement, and increase views, will you guys keep putting out this long form content?
Lol
@oriontraininggroupllc2782 how similar would you say your cqb curriculum is to jon dufresne? I took his nvg/cqb last weekend. Im guessing youre fairly close.
@@adamdyment9732Duffy has come to some CQB stuff but not our NVG stuff. That being said, the NVG program is the same just with the necessary added technical info and lighting considerations. Our visible conditions CQB programs are very similar, so I imagine the NVG is too, but I can’t say that 100% since he hasn’t been to ours and Vice versa
Actually Adam your completely wrong!!! actually they should post more smaller videos so they get more add revenue and we have more frequent videos. We don’t want longer ones.
🤣😂 alright, now someone else act pissed off! Adam has the right idea! Let’s keep it going!!! 🤣
@oriontraininggroupllc2782 hopefully next time you're in Washington i can get in and see your method
Me and da boys raiding the trap houses for sport after the end
Perfect Video from a Trainer perspective. Impressive. May i have the permission to use it, at least the last TapHouse Drill Parts? /Funny Part aside: i was shocked when u first used your flesh-pistols in the first Demo and i thought, naaaa...they are joking :D
Where are you guys located?
Hey, this is just a request. but can you make a non-verbal CQB signals? Thanks if you do :D
We have several videos including that
@@oriontraininggroupllc2782 Which videos though?
Dude, the Running the Rabbit Video was very well done, and it reinforced the Path of Least Resistance! BUT I think you may have out run your headlights on this one. First, what's the context of the mission? Straight Raid, Hostage Rescue, Personnel Recovery, Intelligence Collection, etc.? That alone could smash "limit penetration" to pieces, since scared people hide EVERYWHERE! Second, you doctrine is sound, until you encounter a closed/locked door, or a poorly lit room; now you can't see... That is obviously going to delay the speed and process of entry. Above ALL, Keep it Simple Dude! There is nothing sexy about complexity. Context is King: First, what's the mission? Upon Entry, clear room to room, floor to floor, building to building. Corner-Fed, Center-Fed, Hot/Strong Wall, Closed vs Open Doors.
Yeah I think these guys know what they are doing there buddy.
If you actually watched the video, one of the first things I say is “this is micro drills, not a scenario”. Lol.
@@lawoftheland5923 "Land of the Land" Hahahah! Dude, seriously, you don't know shit about me or my background, so lets not go there... Fair enough?
Jared... Why have you NOT yet been on Theo Vons podcast?! U guys are literally from the same country
As #1 would it not make sense to show the threat "some love" (one shot to throw off balance)as you enter the room to dig your corner and let #2 dig his corner. Then both guys could "clean up" back in center on crossing support?
No, you should be looking to the uncleared area (corner) as you break the plane.
👍👍
You all are clearly the experts so I am by no means second guessing your wisdom but I’m confused why we would ever transition an immediate lethal threat to the two man (after shooting only 2-3 rds) assuming that threat is actively attempting to fire back. Shouldn’t you prioritize hitting the enemy’s off button before continuing to a different sector of work?
I assume you're talking about the intial shots, you don't ever want to stand in the door way, and once you're behind cover (ie behind the wall) you're fighting a losing battle peaking it again with the same target. The 2 man engaging him further is to ideally hit him while hes waiting for the 1 man to pop out of cover. As well, if the target inside is a trained fighter or has common sense and he just got shot at by a guy moving from the TARGET'S right to left, the target will want to move left to avoid giving his aggressor an angle on him without the aggressor needing to move cover, as when you are shot at you will naturally want to move.
Hope this helps
If the target does move left, he is now in the in cover angle of the 2 man. If he moves right, he is in the in cover angle of the 1 man.
Yes, you are correct. Bullets go through walls. They know you're there, so if you commit to the room, get to where you can see, shoot the bad guys.
Or, maybe you guys can do sprints and train
LEEERROOYY!!! LOL
Who is covering long hallway threat in a standard 36in wide hallway?
Whoever has a lane. That’s generally the point man until a door is being taken, and then it becomes whomever is next up after the entry is done and that lane has opened up.
@@oriontraininggroupllc2782 say your doing a 3 man movement and 2 guys will go into the room in a standard 36in wide hallway. Number 1 guy owns the long hallway threat and then starts pieing his door. Is he leaving his back exposed to the long hallway threat and then entering the room with the #2 guy? And #3 is taking the hallway after 1&2 flow into the room?
Love to see you guys do a video on moving in hallways and different techniques. Training and videos are too often done in commercial size hallways and aren’t realistic to what LEO’s are typically searching in my opinion.
Loved the video keep it up.
This is what u do
You guys need a berm. I feel like you're in some dudes backyard.
Private land that stretches for miles, you can see in the video that we are shooting down into the ground before the tree line. Land slopes up behind it.
🫡⚔️🦅
27:16 in this case guy on left should step inside and make step to left while still watch target and check right corner while you enter from right and check that left pie does make more sence to me while cross enter
Reading this gave me a stroke
Yes, make perfect "sence", if you don't think about it.
Left guy.. watch shout.. target pie... cross enter.. right corner check.. on 2 ready, break! Omaha! Omaha!
Awesome
Guess I’m a cool ghuy…Your words Jared! 🪿
