My mother use yo do this back in the 80s and 90s.
She thought the “make your own lemonade” hack displayed savviness and cleverness.
She was completely unaware that to others it seemed miserly and rude.
She also tended to make my brother and I share a meal (despite us being big enough and hungry enough for our own) , and she tipped extremely little.
This is all despite the fact that she was a waitress herself for a long time. At times working two waitressing jobs at a time to support us.
It’s as if once she got a better paying job, she forgot all the headaches of being a server.
She would leave an Avon catalog or a card for Pampered Chef with her measly tip. As if that would help them earn money, when she was making far more than them at her job and still was being a cheapskate.

Hi, I'm the one who submitted the nursing mom Optavia story! I'm stoked you actually read it and I've loved reading all the comments related to it. I wanted to give an update to say that Christy is ABSOLUTELY targeting postpartum nursing moms to try Optavia. She just made a post today, which I will abbreviate and edit for length and privacy... "Becky hopped on one of my plans for nursing mamas when her baby was just 2.5 months old. She lost 55 pounds, had no issue with her milk supply, and is celebrating increased energy." Yet again, the Optavia 5-in-1 disclaimer is present on the before and after photos. It sickens me that it wasn't just me reading into Christy's own experience as a nursing mom, she's still actively targeting others by saying this mom had success with no affect to her milk supply. This is so, so dangerous. Stay vigilant Mamas, and thank you SO much Hannah for reading my story and bringing awareness!

Hi! I'm a nurse, lactation consultant and tandem nursing mom of 2. Your story made me so angry and sad all at once. Breastfeeding is incredible for your baby and this mom is sabotaging nursing moms by starvation. It's incredibly dangerous for anyone, but like you said, especially awful to be targeting post partum moms. How ever you choose to feed your baby, your body needs at least a year to recover from giving birth and you need good nutrition to be your best for your baby. Thanks for your story! Hopefully new moms can be made aware of the dangers of optavia and other unregulated and unsafe supplements and diets

I had no appetite due to PPD and it ABSOLUTELY affected my milk supply, I ended up having to supplement with formula to meet my kids needs. Promoting a starvation diet postpartum isn’t just irresponsible, it’s dangerous. PPD can present even worse if moms basic caloric needs aren’t being met.

It’s crazy to me how different each pregnancy is not just from person to person, but from pregnancy to pregnancy. With my first at about 6 months old I decided to crack down and get in shape. I was exercising basically daily, eating about 1200-1500 calories a day (not a program, just counting calories) and my milk was awesome. I had so much. Similar story with my second, but now my third I’m only 10 months in and I can barely keep up. I’m eating plenty, not really exercising, and not trying to lose weight but I’m way worse than when I was. Everyone is different I guess 🤷🏻‍♀️

i will never underestimate the importance of nutrition during breastfeeding now that i've been through it! before i got pregnant i was very underweight and hardly ate, and stayed that way throughout my pregnancy. even the doctors thought my son would be very small and i basically had no bump... thankfully he came out 50th centile despite my terrible diet.
but nursing changed all of that, i went from eating a couple bites at meals to two full adults portions every meal and still feeling hungry! been nursing for two years now and its changed my entire outlook on nutrition. how awful it must be to have some MLM pray on your vulnerabilities during such a sensitive time, my heart goes out to those women and their babies.

There was a party and a bunch of them had plastic compartmentalized bead containers full of supplements. Two of the people dropped their containers and pills were everywhere on the ground. We got more enjoyment than we should have to watch a group of people scramble frantically to pick up these “miracle supplements” like they wouldn’t live another day without them.

I can absolutely relate to the Amway! I have PTSD almost 30 years later from my experience with Amway.
A family member got me into Amway when I was a single mom (my boys were 2 and 5 at the time), going through a divorce, living with my parents, making $6/hr
The final straw was coming home from an Amway meeting with my upline, I could barely afford my share of the gas money. I had packed 2 peanut butter sandwiches and a thermos of coffee because I couldn’t even afford to buy lunch or a cup of coffee. My upline are at a nice restaurant, I ate in the van. I still shudder from the embarrassment.
I needed to buy milk & bread, and I had $5 in my pocket (you could get a lot of milk and bread in 1995 for $5).
I was sitting in the back of the van, crying, and the upline (family) member was explaining to me why I needed to “find the money” for a 3 day Amway convention in FL the next month. I could pay ONLY $400 (meals and airfare not included in that $409) and sleep on the floor of someone’s hotel room! What part of I have $5 left for the next week did she not understand?
I sobbed uncontrollably the rest of the way home, and sadly, didn’t speak to the family member again until my son’s wedding in 2022.
Back then Amway had some really great products (their laundry soap was my favorite). I was sad to cut ties with the products, but going broke & living with my parents the rest of my life wasn’t very appealing.
I’ve had to end friendships over many MLMs (31, PartyLite, Avon, Pampered Chef) because they are relentless.
Keep doing what you do. I’m shocked that MLMs are not only still around, but flourishing.

I would also be concerned about the quality of the milk that she produces if she is low on her nutritional intake - if she’s not getting enough vitamins, either her body is not getting those nutrients or less is being put into her milk (or both), which could even impact the baby that receives her milk. Of course moms have enough pressure than to overthink that if they are just eating/doing what they can, but intense restriction is where I would feel worried about nutrition

Some baby who is getting donated milk - probably because they are having health problems that won't work with formula and either don't have someone they can breastfeed from directly or have some reason that won't work - and this kid is given this nutritionally deprived donated breastmilk? If the kid continues to decline, the pediatricians and family etc will blame the conditions that led the kid to need donated breastmilk and not the breastmilk itself. Absolutely horrific unethical behavior on the part of that mlm hun. eating 800 calories, shedding weight super fast, posting tons of before-and-after pics, and doing a lot of exhausting activities (pumping milk) sounds like a post partum eating disorder if I’ve ever seen one (and my god I have). there needs to be more awareness about how many are affected by this.
it’s okay to not lose pregnancy weight fast, it’s okay to not loose all of it or to not loose any at all. you may have given birth, but your lifestyle and your body are still not back to how they used to be, and they may never be.
the hormonal changes of pregnancy can last for years, and hormones are well known to affect weight. it’s not your fault if you don’t lose weight. it’s not a failure, it doesn’t make you less beautiful, less worthy, less good of a mother and a person. losing weight isn’t inherently healthy or good for you, it should absolutely never be a priority over proper nutrition for you and your child.

All banquets were catered, and the tip was added to the overall bill for eating there. If they didn't want to book a banquet room, there are several other restaurants in town they could eat at, and I can guarantee that if they didn't leave a tip, they'd be hunted down or banned from eating there the next day.

Omg I ALMOST worked for Kirby yeeeaaarrsss ago. & my mother in law told me it was legit, that her grandma had a kirby vacuum & they were great, blah blah blah.
But the same thing happened as far as a salesperson pitching to me while I was home alone. Not only did I buy the crappy vacuum (it literally broke within like 6 months) but ofc he offered the job opportunity & I had been desperately looking for work.
I go to my interview & there's several other people there. Red flag #1 is that we were all interviewed together. I've never experienced a group interview!
Red flag #2, we were all pretty much hired on the spot & went right into training. I had to call my ride & tell them I had to stay.
After having to take the vacuum out of its box & then put it back into the box in order so the box would close properly, I was already highly uncomfortable & wanted to leave. I can't fully remember what else happened, but I know there must have been something said or done that solidified my feelings & I never went back. My 1st day was my last day 😅

I would like to add that even legit companies have aggressive salespeople (like Spectrum... ugh) 😭 I had just moved into my new place after separating from my husband & my super tall "little" brother had JUST left. Mind you, my yard is completely fenced in. The Spectrum sales guy knocks on my door, I politely decline, as we've had them before & didn't have a good experience. He kept going...I told him how my ex was charged way more than what was agreed upon & I'm happy with AT&T.
HE KEPT GOING! Like.... no matter how many times I said "no" & explained why, he just. Wouldn't. Leave. I finally caved because I just wanted him gone, I was shaking & felt defeated.
I think I ended up paying for like 6 months & also had to pay some other fee, even though I never even hooked up the equipment. I've become stronger now, as far as never backing down, but I seriously wish these salespeople would be more polite & respectful when someone says NO.

I don’t know that darker skin makes you more prone to violence

@@tamid2225 having dark skin and being trained to force your way into people’s homes would open that rep to violence from the homeowners.

@@tamid2225With all due respect, you should have stopped at "I don't know" and then done your homework. Black people, especially dark skinned black people, are absolutely more prone to being on the receiving end of violence. Please please please educate yourself and listen to people's lived experiences.

You mean more likely to be killed by someone who looks like you? Because that's what the statistics say...white people aren't out here shooting brown and black people willy nilly.
No reason to push the racism card where it's not needed.
I'm "brown" too and I hate when we try to convince other people that black and brown people dying isn't primarily our own issue.
