have you read Vance's Lyonesse trilogy? That's some" vancean" piece of literature, conglomerate of his best traits as a writer, with very interesting setting and story.
Nice! I like some of these Vance stories, but I often find that they get a tad too cynical for me. I recently read The Eyes of Sounnu, from from Schuyler Hernstrom, a collection of Dying Earth stories, but with, for me, more sincereity and humanity. But I'll never forget that first read of first book. I had no idea what to expect, and it was so totally different than I even could have ever imagined. I've only read the first 2 books.
Cynical could be a word to use but, to be fair, look at the circumstances of the setting. After all these eons, the world is at the tail end of it's existence. Now it never says in the near future, it could be several thousand years from their time but the sun is going out to them. Despite this, there is still wonder and excitement. I wonder what stories Songs of the Dying earth would have.
That's understandable. I also understand if you don't want to continue Cugel's story of the third book. But give give Rhialto the Marvelous a shot if you can.@@allfictionisfantasy
Uh, can't say I agree with that. However the first story in the first book has a fight scene that to me reads out like a fight scene in Yellowbeard in it's silliness. @@allfictionisfantasy
A pretty good series of stories! You can really tell how much influence it has had over later fantasy stories.
Yes, funny how not to many people tell what each story is about. Most people say how influential this series is.

I know of it but have not read it. Would not mind reading sometime in the future.
very good audiobooks of whole trilogy - Suldrun's Garden, Green Pearl and Madouc can be found on YT, just saying :)
@@kjm1141 However people can experience this series.

I think I like them best in small doses. One or two, here and there.
All of the characters remind me of Sparrowhawk / Ged before he grows up and stops being a little shit. Lol.
