Nolan from donut media is also a djent fan... there was one episode he was wearing a meshuggah shirt and also playing bleed by meshuggah in one of his cutaways
I had a 95 Civic EX that had well over 270K miles when I sold it to my friend. Even up to that point, it ran well without significant issues aside from standard maintenance. I have no doubt it would have made it to 300K and beyond had my friend not totaled it shortly after buying it.
I'm not a donut OG but I've been really into your stuff over the last year, still catching up. Finally watched this Civic episode. I teared up a bit with you James. Thanks for making the show. You fellas are fantastic.
Another key facet of this car is the amazing affordability of ownership.. when I was young and stupid I dug myself into some debt in the 1980s.. In need of a car in 1990 I bought a little red base Civic hatchback (and when I say base I mean base.. vinyl interior, no a/c, 4 speed manual, no power steering, not even a radio in the thing or a side view mirror on the passenger side, etc) and it just ran and ran and ran for a decade until I needed something bigger because we started a family.. but my point is literally nothing ever went wrong with it, and I was able to dig myself out of all debt because the car didn’t bleed me to death with repairs like its predecessors. And now that son who was born for whom I gave up my Civic 20 years ago has grown up and bought his first car, a little red Honda Civic (but his is a sporty coupe EX model with all the creature comforts). Thanks for a great video about a model that will always be special to me.
Holy heck making me cry over here. I love you guys and thank you so much for not only making me laugh, but for teaching me so much about some badass cars and history! For real though you guys rock and all the work that goes into all of your content really shows.
Bravo man! Another great episode. I fell in love with the Civic with my first gen CRX way back in the day. I drove that thing into the ground but it was a really sad day when I had to let that car go. I did not have a lot of money and with a new family it did not make sense to try to keep that car around after it kept breaking down. Fast forward more than a decade later I am back in the Honda family with my new 2019 Honda Civic Type R! It did not happen over night but it did happen and I could not be more happy. This truly is the BEST Civic EVER MADE! Keep up the great work!

i had a 95 and a 98 civic...loved em!!!! when i bought the 98 used, (for 750 canadian$) i drove it about 1500 miles before an oil change...when the oil change was done, the tech told me it had about a cup of oil, and even less coolant!...it never overheated and ran like a dream!!! P.S. you have a great channel and team and deserve every ounce of praise you get!!!
i bought my civic with 175000 miles, and fading paint and some rust. its great, i love it, it got me across the country!! i went 75 mph for 17 hrs at the longest stretch. Doesn't let me down. It's done over 100,000km, still feels tight, and I honestly wouldn't change it for anything. While looking for my first ever new car, I tried many others, Lancer, Focus, i30, Mazda 3, a Kia, even Suzuki, plus a bunch more that I can't remember, and the Civic was the only one that made me really like it. the Mazda 3 was a very close second.

It's weird seeing James actually cry and Damn! there were 50 of these :0 . Iv'e been watching Donut ever since the Supra upto speed came and in my mind I pictured it to be just around 20 videos. I bet in a short while there will be no cars that we need to get Upto speed on :P . Another thing I wanted to point out was *The channel is almost at a million freaking sub* , when I first found this channel it had only a bit over a 100k subs and I was like. "This channel deserves wayyy more subs" and looks what it's at right now.
Thats for sure one thing you get from James and his peers. Most automotive people come off arrogant or above it. Like their opinions mean more than anyone including the designers and engineers of the vehicles. Donut just seems pumped to be apart of it, pumped to talk about it and share history. Something unique with these dudes.
Seriously, Dunut media it's the best car show right now by far. Forget about motor trend or top gear. These guys put you fixed to the screen like no body. Congrats!
You missed when the Big 3 couldn’t keep up with the new emission laws in the 70’s. They told the government it was impossible, and General Motors said that CVCC may work for “toy motorcycles,” but has no place on a real car. Soichiro got so pissed that air lifted a big 350 V8 Impala from Detroit to Tokyo and he had his R&D team make custom CVCC heads for it. Then he shipped it back to the US where it passed the new 1973 emissions standards. Soichiro had to fight and struggle to become a major Japanese automaker. He wasn’t about to take shit from the States.
Master Xehanort so what you're saying is the American muscle culture so permeated the industry that instead of trying to make a cleaner engine, they just deemed it impossible and said "slap a cat on it"
@ernisill It's not that American companies are lazy(er) or greedy(er), at least not more than other countries companies. It's just that they have the lawmaker's ears here and can lobby/bribe to get laws passed that are good for them. Japanese couldn't (in America). But Japan has plenty of it's own tomfoolery with laws and regulations about cars. Every company everywhere is going to try to play this game. Don't blame them. Blame the politicians. If they didnt pass such shitty laws we wouldnt have to worry about this stuff.
james gotta be my favorite part of donut. dont let it get to your head but if you werent part of this channel i dont think half the people watching would still be here. love you james!!!
Damn dude. I love Donut, and I especially love Up to Speed, but to see that emotion at the end really shows that you guys put your hearts into what you do. Congratulations on 50 episodes.
1st Civic I ever noticed had about 20 police cars chasing it over the bridge from Pensacola to Gulf Breeze. It was the getaway car in a bank robbery. What a great thing to see on my 1st vacation in Florida. I'm 50 now and that happened when I was 18. Every time I look at a Civic I picture that scene.
Andres Valdes B: Another great thing on that vacation: I was making a sand castle that looked like a Corvette and these three beautiful women wearing black bikinis came along and helped me. I was in 18 year old boy heaven. Gotta love Florida!
I never doubted this channel, and James also deserve all the love. Not only I learned so much about cars by the efforts of this channel, but James made it so fun to watch a literal history lesson. Yes, this is a history class and everyone is enjoying it thanks to James 💯👏
This was great like the rest of them. Congrats on 50. And that was too much to handle, like so emotional dude. I love the content keep it up dude. -ur biggest fan
Proud owner of a Red 95 Honda Del Sol and I still remember the first time I drove it, it had way more acceleration that all the other Civics I drove and because of this I call it the Little Red Rocket. Its my favorite car that I have driven and when the time comes, I will pass it down to my kids.
@@kylemontano228 it's awesome, but still can't get over the fact that they're so old now, we only have a good decade or so before they either die or they retire which I don't think they'll ever do. I miss old top gear, when they were younger.

I owned a Honda civic from 1996-2016 that's twenty years of hardwork, I definitely got my return of the investment I put into that car. These cars are no joke
Brother the last part was from the heart ❤ thank you for all the great hard work you bring us every time , you helped a lot of us stay sane 2020 I've watch old episodes and new ones I always laugh my ass off, and learn something new.
Had a '81 Civic 1500 that got 45 mpg on a trip to Florida. Flat, think I drove around 65. Didn't turn on the air, pissed off the wife on that one. Windows down, her hair looked like a turban. When filling up she said, "I'll bet we saved 50 cents"..
Weight yes, but also emissions. They used to fun these engines super lean. But can't now. It's why we got Gas injection engines now. Impossible to tune, and no gas being sprayed on the intake vales the engines gum up fast some times as little as 15k miles. But yeah we will never have a 50 mpg car again
Although the question has been answered perfectly, I just want to say when you add bigger wheels to a car, you are basically throwing on dead weight. People who ran 18 inch wheels on a generation below 8th that wasn't an SI or Type R - all show, no go. And yeah, wheels got larger over time... but so did the engine.
congrats dudes, Donut Media is one of the best youtube channels about cars and education, very satisfied that you guys still make some nice ass content, keep it up boys! Hugs from Brazil

At the end of vid ... damn ... something got into my eye..
You made me cry in the end :/
I love how you are soo passionate about what you do... Keep going my guy! Love your videos!
Always learn a lot about the history of cars through Up to Speed! Great channel and congrats on almost hitting 1mil subs!
The J Media ku nk bli 2 butei
James, you almost had me doing that cry from that intervention scene. Thank you and everybody else at Donut for the amazing content!
Up to Speed: Alfa Romeo! (Mainly because of the sudden influx of AR vehicles in the U.S.)
Seriously, Dunut media it's the best car show right now by far. Forget about motor trend or top gear. These guys put you fixed to the screen like no body. Congrats!
Onionsss, ONIONS everywhere! LOVE YOUR CONTENT james! 👏👏 Keep it up!
for real man! there might be someone cutting onions beside me. wtf.
50th episode? Really? Well happy 50th!
Matthew botha for the series it’s a pretty good milestone considering they release so much every other day
You missed when the Big 3 couldn’t keep up with the new emission laws in the 70’s.
Master Xehanort so what you're saying is the American muscle culture so permeated the industry that instead of trying to make a cleaner engine, they just deemed it impossible and said "slap a cat on it"
To add to the story the engine passes without catylitic converters.
Master Xehanort holy shit thanks for this, I'm going to share this story a lot. Good old lazy greedy irresponsible American companies.
Honda made an Impala meet 73 emissions without a scrubber? o.O
That intro though!!
4BangersProduction I didn't know you watched donut media
He wouldn't miss the honda one
1st Civic I ever noticed had about 20 police cars chasing it over the bridge from Pensacola to Gulf Breeze. It was the getaway car in a bank robbery. What a great thing to see on my 1st vacation in Florida. I'm 50 now and that happened when I was 18. Every time I look at a Civic I picture that scene.
Wade Guidry You could say the Robbers were needs to be more civic minded 😂
Dammit that 70s civic would have given a fight to be chased by 20 police cars damn
I was really hoping you would say "Wouldn't be possible without my dad"
I chocked at the end of this...wow..love his passion
This guy is fucking amazing.
I love this guy. This is my new favorite car show. Adios Top Gear!
AlPha 36 the top gear guys are back on amazon prime video. It’s called the grand tour. I suggest you watch it because it’s great
@@kylemontano228 it's awesome, but still can't get over the fact that they're so old now, we only have a good decade or so before they either die or they retire which I don't think they'll ever do. I miss old top gear, when they were younger.
soulassassin0g it is sad to think about, their Health is probably declining :(

soulassassin0g I hope the maniacs who are going to invade Area 51 find some anti-aging serum and bring it back, every generation deserves those 3 knuckleheads in their lives
Why you make me cry too.
Congrats on almost hitting a million subs! As a small channel, know how hard it is to put out the content and make it, keep it up!

Also the word racecar. I learned that on the disney channel when they were promoting the cars movie.

Do not cry James
50? I’ve watched 50 episodes or up to speed? Dang.
Anyway you guys deserve all these support because all of your hard work. I’ve learned so much about cars from this channel and I really wanna thank you guys 🙏
I owned a Honda civic from 1996-2016 that's twenty years of hardwork, I definitely got my return of the investment I
put into that car. These cars are no joke
Now you must be a qualified welder?
Brother the last part was from the heart ❤ thank you for all the great hard work you bring us every time , you helped a lot of us stay sane 2020 I've watch old episodes and new ones I always laugh my ass off, and learn something new.
WTF Civics were getting 50mpg city back in the 80s? Most hybrids today don't even hit that number. WTF happened?
Weight
Honda happens
Although the question has been answered perfectly, I just want to say when you add bigger wheels to a car, you are basically throwing on dead weight. People who ran 18 inch wheels on a generation below 8th that wasn't an SI or Type R - all show, no go.
And yeah, wheels got larger over time... but so did the engine.
congrats dudes, Donut Media is one of the best youtube channels about cars and education, very satisfied that you guys still make some nice ass content, keep it up boys! Hugs from Brazil
I cried at work.
Jesus, I did too, I'm hiding in my cubicle lol
william villanueva same haha
I didn't cry, but man this freak dust storm came through my office right when James started tearing up. My eyes watered and it was inconvenient because I couldn't see through it. Stupid dust storms. Localized entirely to my office.
Those office dust storms, man. They'll get ya.
Lmao
My nephew just got a 10th gen civic as his first car. Came back to this vid to get some ideas and inspiration… but damn. Donut has really grown so much since this video was uploaded. Pumphrey still being there makes it all the more better cause imo he carried a lot of early donut (as well as Nolan)
