Upgrade Old Maglite to LED and polish lens

Bill replaced the bulb on his 6 D-cell Maglite this time and polished the plastic lens to remove some scratches and clouding.

Bill started customizing and restoring #Matchbox, #Hot Wheels, #Tonka, and other #die-cast toy cars and trucks after reminiscing on his days as a kid playing, destroying, smashing, and just being a kid playing with these great toys. After seeing Marty Matchbox Makeovers, he decided he could do that too. He jumped in headfirst and started making videos and learning new and better ways along the way to bring these toys back to life.

I was surprised it lit the first time. I've found that LED bulbs needed the batteries reversed.

Sometimes. I was happy it turned out. now that is it an LED the battery last much longer and I end up using it more.

That is a ridiculously long flashlight. A few more inches in length and you could use it as a walking cane or a baseball bat.

i want to buy an extension tube to convert from 6 d cells to 8 d cells will the original incandescent bulb handle the extra power?

I don’t think it will, you can try it. Worst thing you will need a replacement bulb, and get the LED it much brighter. If you just want brighter you can just get the LED bulb. But if you just want the larger size, you will most likely need a new bulb as well.

@@BillsWorkbench i noticed it has a xenon bulb and not a regular old incandescent bulb. it shines bright white like an led bulb. i will try and see if it will handle 8 d cells. hopefully it will not blow out.

6 cell bulb will work with max. 7 alkaline cells.
8 fresh alkaline cells will instaflash the 6 cell bulb.
If you have a 3D M*g, use pair of rechargeable 26650 with 6 cell bulb.
