  • In this video I show an overview of my 2012 Mitsubishi i-MiEV electric car which is a 70 mile range, 80+mph all electric vehicle!
    I really love this car and finally got around to making a video on it. I go over everything from a 0-55mph speed test to the heating system!
    I create and use a lot of remote control toy vehicles like cars and snow-cats (check out my other videos on my channel!) so to me this car feels like I'm driving a full sized RC car its so fun!
    Please leave a comment for any questions or comments thanks!

    For someone like me who rarely needs to go over 30 miles from home this is like the perfect EV

    When summer arrives: Go over suspension arms with a steel brush and paint everything with some nice rust prevention enamel of your choice. Also do the bottom of the sills even if they have no rust yet. This is very manageable and cheap if you do yourself in time!! Nice car!

    I own a 2012 i-miev as well. My wife drives to work and back home which is about 30 miles round trip and plugs it in overnight and we never have any issues with range anxiety. I drive it every chance I get because I enjoy it so much. It also requires very low maintenance and no more stopping to gas up. It only takes a few hours to fully charge on a 120 volt plug if you have about half the bars left, so it's not bad. I call it the mini Tesla and it cost a fraction of the price. Happy travels. :)

      Joee333 Yes my wife works half days 8-1pm(13km) and only uses 3-4 bars so then I charge it for 4 hrs and get it almost to 100% for my 5-9pm night shift delivering food(64km). Which leaves me with about 6 bars out of 16 which takes about 11 hrs to get 100% again for her. B mode rocks. I love to use the ebrake during long red lights to save my foot muscles.

    I've had my silver 2012 for 5 years and it's been a fun car to drive. It had only 2100 miles when I bought it in 2015 but now has 55k. At first I was watching my electric bill and it never really went up even with driving it 30 miles round trip to work then it dawned on my that I was probably unconciently reducing my power usage elsewhere in the house. And it's roomy! I once put a full size stove/oven combo in it. It slipped right in no problem.
    I feel guilty not spending any money on it. The only thing I bought for it was a set of tires and wiper blades. Sometimes I think people feel sorry for me because the car has look of a small car but is really almost minivan like in size.

    .... Nicely Done !!! , i been wanting to do a review on my IMiev 2012 SE ... one day I will .
    Facts : Is the cheapest EV on the market . $7k - $9k used with low milage
    Secondly : You will see the gas saving dollars on the spot , with other more expensive EVs you wont see the gas savings dollars at all .
    I just to spend about $325 on gas a month , now i barely hit the $30 per year on electricity .
    I truly recommend this car , but make sure you have a good EV charging stations on your town or city , charging at home overnight is the best .

    Ahh great video review man..i have the exact same model/year and even colour. I am sad to say i have to sell it after only 3 yrs. 36,000km. I would use this video in my ad until you mentioned the battery gave out on you(did mitsubishi put up a fight?). Dont wanna scare the buyer. I also used mine for delivering food. My shift was only avg 3-4hrs at 64kms. Oh yes i hear that baby whirl/purr. Im in Winnipeg. I drove it on brand new all seasons my 1st winter and we got lots of snow and i got stuck 3-4 times. Its just so lightweight but i bet snow tires would have got me out. Haha before we had kids, i used to work 11-3pm then drive to the local collage to have a CHAdeMO quick charge(20-40mins), then eat something, walk back to the car to unplug/plug again to get the remaining 20% which took about an hour, in that time I had a little nap. I would then start another shift 5-9pm. Which worked out cause rush hour(3-5pm) really sucks. Compared to a Leaf, i wish it would blew heat while it charged. Then i could eat/nap in the car🥶

    I remember when I first saw this car years ago when I drove by a Mitsubishi dealership. I'm the type of guy that likes unconventional looking cars like these. I've been debating for years on getting one, but what concerns me is being stuck in traffic and running out of juice before I can make it to a charging station. Most of my commutes are over an hour long, sometimes two. It's definitely a neat car.

    • @thegreatestmoo
      @thegreatestmoo  5 років тому +3

      Well when you come to a stop the car is using like 0.00001% of the battery lol, there is no idling like a gas engine, the motor spinning is the only thing that drains the battery besides if your using A/C or heat, that will use up some while stopped, but you can always turn that on/off. They have free phone apps you can look at all the chargers around you, you'd be surprised just how many there are now. Most are free. However if your commute is 1-2 hours you would need a longer range electric car, this car will be able to go around 1 hours worth of a commute or so, for me I can make it from Saint Paul to Blaine and back on one charge, but theres plenty others out there, this ones the shortest range and cheapest one they sell.

      @@thegreatestmoo Thank you very much for giving me some more insight on the car. Out of all the videos I've watched on youtube about this car, yours has been the most helpful. Thank you for responding so quick. Maybe down the line the range improves for these models, I'll get one. Which stinks for now, because I always catch myself turning my head whenever I see one at a dealership or in a grocery store parking lot.

    • @EONEILL1987
      @EONEILL1987 5 років тому

      @@thegreatestmoo I'm still intrigued by the car. The places I work don't have charging stations, so I'm just wondering how much of a charge the car would get sitting for a standard 8 hour shift plugged into a conventional 120V plug.

    • @Liefpj
      @Liefpj 5 років тому

      Eric O'Neill how fast do u drive in your commute? Any highway? Speed and Heater use are the killer, the seat warmer will save you lots of range over the fan heat. AC use only makes you lose 15% total. You should get about 7 bars with 8hrs on the 120v.

    • @eco1og
      @eco1og 5 років тому

      @@EONEILL1987 it would get 20-25 miles of range since full charge at regular plug takes about 22-24 hrs.

    Thank you for sharing your insights on this marvellous little EV. I am biased I have owned and run a 2011U.K. spec iMiEV since September last year. I travel around 60 miles a day during the working week, topping up my charge as and when I can. I haven't been stranded yet, I have seen the turtle twice, both times were as I was about to roll onto my drive to plug into my 3kW home charger. I also have just put on a set of winter tyres and will watch with interest as hopefully you will post some winter driving updates. Isn't it odd that we love these weird little cars? Not so weird when you think how much money we are saving over an ICE car?

      no its not possible but it is configured so a "full charge" is not full on the battery. because when driving on "full" battery there need to be room for regen braking

    Thank you for this video. I am considering buying one of these llittle cars. I am in southwestern PA which is very hilly and mountainous, and snnows a lot in the winter. I always buy vehicles with 4 wheel drive for this reason. I've beeen hesistant to dirve without that feature, especially in the snow. You are in Minnesota which I assume is flat. Do you ever feel the need for 4 wheel drive or is this car pretty capable in the snow?

    Shocked that the battery failed when you bought it? They are famous for durability, the batteries can withstand a lot of abuse, quick charging is not bad for the battery, but, leaving it plugged it, after the charge is completed is bad for that battery

    13:15 Hey man, one trick some really OG i-MiEV/C-Zero drivers have found with flooring it is that the throttle isn't restricted when you launch with the handbrake. The computer knows when you're gonna launch with the brake pedal, but the hand brake is still analogue on the rear-driven wheels.
    Try it out and mythbust it or something!

    • @thegreatestmoo
      @thegreatestmoo  4 роки тому +3

      Hey I tried this while out today, I could not get any kind of results. While holding the e-brake if you apply some throttle you can tell the motor stops applying more power cause it can sense its not moving or something. I tried to floor it a second before releasing the e-brake then right when I released it, it just slowly started to go as if the motor was just standing by if that makes sense. Sadly there was no super speed boost lol.

      thats because he drives it harder than normal and the car calculate it if he drives like that the rest of the trip it will go 57miles instead of 61. it also change numbers instant if you put on heater and with different fanspeed. its very intelligent calculation.
