First of all congratulations Jack. It seems to me that you have little to be worried about as this Gentleman has built many cars before and so knew what he was doing. It is very wise to put it together as much as you can even if you need to pull it apart again back here in the UK. There will be less chance of anything going astray during shipping. This lady seems happy for you to have and look after the car which I know you will. You are also the sort of person who asks for advice if you are not sure so it is in good hands Jack. The arches will need to be redone I think though from the camera I cannot tell exactly what the problem is.but it's not a big problem. Thanks for taking us with you on your journey Jack I look forward to the adventure ahead! 👍👍
The arches problem looks a bit like "bog" or putty shrinkage. It happens if fillers or putty, sometimes even paint applied too thickly. I had an E Type Jag in the late '70's that had a bad repair on the bonnet it looked like that. Just had to strip the surface back to metal and had it properly flatted by a good panel basher, he eliminated a lot of filler, the problem never returned.
@@stephenscholes4758 Let's face it man that 308 is an absolute engineering disaster. No way that is a good design by any standard. They sure are pretty though.
@@jeffreysalzman1497 Unlike American cars it was contemporary engineering to the '80s. Americans build cars/bikes of maybe 70 year old designs and say "look how reliable they are!!!...." Shit , they would want to be, good for nothing else
Great! I am looking forward to following this adventure. I expect less drama with the engine like you had wit the the Influenzo but I'd love to see you struggling with all the details to bring it up to the standard the former owner had in mind.
Congratulations, so pleased you decided to purchase a Pantera, it's a worthy successor to your 308, it's certainly up there in my top three favourite cars of all time, so will be glued to each and every episode of your up and coming Pantera chronicles.
Congratulations, what a fantastic purchase. Looking forward to following your journey getting this beautiful Pantera on the road and taking it back to your home in the UK. I must say, the scene with Anita was very sweet, it made me a little bit teary-eyed 🥹. Following your channel for the last few years, I know that Pantera is in the right hands now.
Back in Highland Park, Illinois, in 1971 my next-door neighbor's relative was a player for the Chicago Cubs and he drove one of these when he came to visit. Yellow and very awesome sound.
It looks a beautiful thing. A nice testament to the man who started the project and a benchmark for you which I think you'll achieve. Looking forward to seeing this one develop.
My fondest memories of a Pantera were around 20 years ago, having a spirited drive in my integrale and this blue GT5S went passed me close to Gleneagles hotel. It was a biblical moment. Well done Jack, the early bumper cars are even more special. This is major YT car porn.
Incredible how rare the Pantera has become, it was a car I never knew much about until I heard how many of them were modded (and mostly written off) as stunt cars doubling for Ferraris and other things in movies and tv.
A friend gave a Pantera to his son who worked for me. The young man set about having it fully restored to a level much higher than the car was originally built. Painted Ferrari red, with biscuit leather interior, it was a stunning machine to look at. Unfortunately, the handsome young man passed away suddenly, and I've lost track of the car.
When i was a kid i always wanted a Pantera. I had a picture on my bedroom wall and a couple of books on the Pantera. Never got one so you are a lucky man.
Wow you really lucked out with the two people you found to help you, they are both tremendous individuals who give a lot back to the Pantera community! Congratulations on your find!
Loved the 308 project, will watch future videos with great interest. Brave man, hope you have a strong back as the engine lies deep in the chassis when in situ. Great memories of my friends Pantera, many years ago.
Welcome to my side of 'the pond'! It looks like this car will indeed be a worthy succesor to the Ferrari. Good to know that once again we'll be seeing 'project' oriented episodes going forward. Congratulations!
Jim is a legend, this is a great part of Edmond Oklahoma, and you have a FANTASTIC DIAMOND...she just needs some good old-fashioned British elbow grease!!! Grab all the bits you can from the USA...take advantage of that Sterling buying power!!!
Wow lucky you Jack. Always been a fan of the De Tomaso Pantera, for years very under rated and under valued. I will be following your YT channel intently, to see how you progress with this project. The only downside appears to me, is that it's yours , not mine.
Your one luck man!! I had a fast 65 mustang in the mid 80's, one night I went to go on the freeway & a Panera pulled up next to me, He smiled & Rev his Engine & then when the light went green, He left me behind by 8 car lengths by the top of the on ramp, I've been a fan ever since!!
I'm sure you will do her and the memory of Jim proud. Your passion for the Pantera is almost tangible, and you have the experience of doing a first class job on finishing the restoration. Look forward to seeing this progress, and it would be lovely to see Anitas reaction and hear her verdict when it's done.
I live in Tulsa, and used to work when I was a teenager at Fred Jones Ford. One of the parts guys had a beautiful red I believe 1971 or 72 Pantera. But now I'm 64 and the dealership has been gone for years now. Oklahomans love their cars, I had my first car up until 2000. It was a 1969 Mercury Cougar. Now I own my dream car which is a 1951 Hudson Pacemaker.
Great episode. This will be a fantastic car. Some body work I suspect will be needed but for the right person no drama. I have rebuilt and strengthened stuff using carbon fibre very successfully. Panteras really are a practical exotic that can be driven distance without the mechanical mayhem of most!
Congratulations on your purchase Jack! The Pantera is such an interesting hybrid of Italian design and US muscle. I'm lucky enough to drive one in the US belonging to a friend when I visit. Looks like a load of work has already been done on this car and the back date to the chrome bumpers is so much more elegant. The strange crazing on the arches looks like a weird chemical reaction to perhaps some speedily cured filler or primer over which colour has been applied too early. Depends on how pristine you want the car but it'll be a big job to correct it as the whole panel will require stabilising and then blending into the roof and B pillar. It'll be interesting to see what the shipping costs from US to UK are along with the duty and tax that you'll be paying. I hope you'll detail this in upcoming episodes. Are you planning on shipping from the East or West Coast? Containerised or RoRo? Would there be any benefit of shipping the engine and gearbox separately so the car attracts less duty as a valuable classic car and more of a rolling work in progress? I'm considering importing a couple of cars from Missouri next year - neither of which are running. We could share a container! Best of luck with everything and look forward to your next instalment.
A fine choice Jack, a friend of mine has a 73, and it's great. You shouldn't break your knuckles working on this. Time and patience you'll be good, brava!
Congrats on the purchase that is a beautiful beautiful car and it's a shame that Anita's husband passed away and won't be able to see the complete build
Amazing project congratulations on being able to secure it. It must have been hard for Anita to let it go as it was going to be a special car but I'm sure you will bring it alive and do Jim proud.
Excellent choice, Maybe you could make an episode with a history of Alejandro de Tomaso. He was such an influence in the 60's and 70's. Looking forward to your new project.
Back in the late 70's, a good friend of mine had a Pantera for a while. I've always loved the shape. He parked it up for a while at the end of our garden (we had a concertina gate allowing access). When he went to move it out after a couple of months, he fired it up and the oil filter popped off - my dad was not impressed at the rather large deposit of oil under the car.

Aww Anita is so nice. I hope that Jack can fly her over to the UK to see the Pantera when it is finished.
A big thanks to Anita! I'm sure she can tell that it's going to a good home to be completed. Wonderful find Jack! And welcome to the US!
Thanks to Anita for allowing us all to see this project.
Now that you have a DETOMASO PANTERA, I have a Chrysler TC by Maserati that DETOMASO helped produce. No comparison though! Congratulations, Steve
Great car! There’s a company in the Los Angeles area that is making new transmissions for Panteras! Wilkinson’s Pantera!
A few moments in. Loving it.
Thanks Jack.
Enjoy! Thank you for watching 🙏

Hiya! Congrats, great find! I'm so happy to be following you w/this build!!! Yes! Your friend in Dallas Tx! peace (arial!)
Kudos to you Jack for your obviously huge passion to go through all the hassle of bringing such an adorable car over from the states :)
The issue relating to the vehicle's rear arches could be shrinkage of the spray on primer-filler or the polyester putty (aka Bondo). Past experience with US sourced cars 'suggests' that regular US body/spray shops have a tendency to 'over do it' when it comes to applying Bondo or spray on filler.
Looks like filler shrinkage/crazing to me too. Arches are often overfilled it seems.
Primer filler can level surfaces but should mostly be sanded off not used to build up large areas.
@@philtowle4683 Agree - however past experience indictates that some body shops don't (sadly) adhere to good practice.
The crazing in the paint looks familiar and similar to a car I had that had been painted to a high standard but subsequently suffered a reaction, paint shrinkage and the crazing you showed in the video. Hopefully it's only localised...
Great project, I have seen the associated grief and huge bills / lack of bits for some of the Italian exotica, a pushrod V8, a plain normal synchromesh manual transaxle, basic electrickery and none active suspension sounds a very sensible route to reliable usage in a gorgeous body style.
