- I travelled from the UK to Oklahoma USA to inspect a car. I have been looking for a DeTomaso Pantera for a while but could not afford to buy in Europe.. This 1974 Pantera might be the perfect project for me but there are some downsides.

First of all congratulations Jack. It seems to me that you have little to be worried about as this Gentleman has built many cars before and so knew what he was doing. It is very wise to put it together as much as you can even if you need to pull it apart again back here in the UK. There will be less chance of anything going astray during shipping. This lady seems happy for you to have and look after the car which I know you will. You are also the sort of person who asks for advice if you are not sure so it is in good hands Jack. The arches will need to be redone I think though from the camera I cannot tell exactly what the problem is.but it's not a big problem. Thanks for taking us with you on your journey Jack I look forward to the adventure ahead! 👍👍
The arches problem looks a bit like "bog" or putty shrinkage. It happens if fillers or putty, sometimes even paint applied too thickly.
I had an E Type Jag in the late '70's that had a bad repair on the bonnet it looked like that. Just had to strip the surface back to metal and had it properly flatted by a good panel basher, he eliminated a lot of filler, the problem never returned.
Aww Anita is so nice. I hope that Jack can fly her over to the UK to see the Pantera when it is finished.
This channel has reached a whole new level. Can't wait to see you fix this beautiful car up. It's going to be so much easier than an old Ferrari.
The Ferrari was newer. Ford's are easy to work on like McDonald's are easy to consume,,,, cheap, disposable rubbish
@@stephenscholes4758 Let's face it man that 308 is an absolute engineering disaster. No way that is a good design by any standard. They sure are pretty though.
@@jeffreysalzman1497 Unlike American cars it was contemporary engineering to the '80s. Americans build cars/bikes of maybe 70 year old designs and say "look how reliable they are!!!...." Shit , they would want to be, good for nothing else
The quiver in his voice when he says thanks to the lady is touching ☺️
Congratulations! Plenty of positive project vibes here 👌
A big thanks to Anita! I'm sure she can tell that it's going to a good home to be completed. Wonderful find Jack! And welcome to the US!
Thanks to Anita for allowing us all to see this project.
Great! I am looking forward to following this adventure. I expect less drama with the engine like you had wit the the Influenzo but I'd love to see you struggling with all the details to bring it up to the standard the former owner had in mind.
Prepare for lift off ladies and gents! This channel is about to witness some serious growth with this addition. Beautiful car!
Congratulations, so pleased you decided to purchase a Pantera, it's a worthy successor to your 308, it's certainly up there in my top three favourite cars of all time, so will be glued to each and every episode of your up and coming Pantera chronicles.
A few moments in. Loving it.
Thanks Jack.
Enjoy! Thank you for watching 🙏
Had to pop out. It's back on!

Congratulations, what a fantastic purchase. Looking forward to following your journey getting this beautiful Pantera on the road and taking it back to your home in the UK. I must say, the scene with Anita was very sweet, it made me a little bit teary-eyed 🥹. Following your channel for the last few years, I know that Pantera is in the right hands now.
I'm looking forward to this on the channel. Such a classy car!
Congrats Jack on the new car. I'm looking forward to watching this project!
Congratulations Jack , stunning car . Looking forward to watching this project progress 👍
It looks a beautiful thing.
A nice testament to the man who started the project and a benchmark for you which I think you'll achieve. Looking forward to seeing this one develop.
Looking forward to this new series. Keep up the good work.
Incredible how rare the Pantera has become, it was a car I never knew much about until I heard how many of them were modded (and mostly written off) as stunt cars doubling for Ferraris and other things in movies and tv.
A friend gave a Pantera to his son who worked for me. The young man set about having it fully restored to a level much higher than the car was originally built. Painted Ferrari red, with biscuit leather interior, it was a stunning machine to look at. Unfortunately, the handsome young man passed away suddenly, and I've lost track of the car.
Fantastic project buddy, cant wait to see this here in the UK
Wow you really lucked out with the two people you found to help you, they are both tremendous individuals who give a lot back to the Pantera community! Congratulations on your find!
Thrilled for you, Jack! This looks a real peach! All the best with it... will be following the adventures, for sure!
I'm sure you will do her and the memory of Jim proud.
Your passion for the Pantera is almost tangible, and you have the experience of doing a first class job on finishing the restoration.
Look forward to seeing this progress, and it would be lovely to see Anitas reaction and hear her verdict when it's done.
From clutch issues in an elise, to fuelling issues with a 308 and now one of these - This channel just keeps on giving. Thankyou
It's always difficult to take over someone elses project. There will be a million problems to solve. But it will definitely be worth it!
Welcome to my side of 'the pond'! It looks like this car will indeed be a worthy succesor to the Ferrari. Good to know that once again we'll be seeing 'project' oriented episodes going forward. Congratulations!
Loved the 308 project, will watch future videos with great interest. Brave man, hope you have a strong back as the engine lies deep in the chassis when in situ. Great memories of my friends Pantera, many years ago.
WOW, WOW, WOW Jack, congratulations. Looking forward to seeing this go back together.
The Detomaso Pantera is my absolute dream car. Nicely done.
Wow lucky you Jack. Always been a fan of the De Tomaso Pantera, for years very under rated and under valued. I will be following your YT channel intently, to see how you progress with this project. The only downside appears to me, is that it's yours , not mine.
Back in Highland Park, Illinois, in 1971 my next-door neighbor's relative was a player for the Chicago Cubs and he drove one of these when he came to visit. Yellow and very awesome sound.
Wow, what a beauty in black with the small chrome bumpers. Congrats.
This is so exciting! 🙌 can’t wait to follow this, well done Jack
Used to love seeing the pantera in books when I was at school
well done Jack I look forward to seeing the progress
Wow! This is a full-on adventure Jack.
I am quite shure you will get lot of help from people you do not even know.
Woah!! This is amazing. I will be equally as excited to follow this build as the influenza!!
I live in Tulsa, and used to work when I was a teenager at Fred Jones Ford. One of the parts guys had a beautiful red I believe 1971 or 72 Pantera. But now I'm 64 and the dealership has been gone for years now. Oklahomans love their cars, I had my first car up until 2000. It was a 1969 Mercury Cougar. Now I own my dream car which is a 1951 Hudson Pacemaker.
Thank you for giving her a hug!
Can’t wait for this and the naming and music for the car. (Loved the influenzo). This car is as cool as it gets. So excited for you 👍🏽
Congratulations, Jack, on finding a dream car, looking forward to seeing the new series on UA-cam.
Your one luck man!! I had a fast 65 mustang in the mid 80's, one night I went to go on the freeway & a Panera pulled up next to me, He smiled & Rev his Engine & then when the light went green, He left me behind by 8 car lengths by the top of the on ramp, I've been a fan ever since!!
Beautiful Project! That previous test ride did the job between the ears! 🙂
Really looking forward to this build Jack, your "restoration" projects are so watchable!
Congratulations on your purchase Jack!
The Pantera is such an interesting hybrid of Italian design and US muscle. I'm lucky enough to drive one in the US belonging to a friend when I visit.
Looks like a load of work has already been done on this car and the back date to the chrome bumpers is so much more elegant. The strange crazing on the arches looks like a weird chemical reaction to perhaps some speedily cured filler or primer over which colour has been applied too early. Depends on how pristine you want the car but it'll be a big job to correct it as the whole panel will require stabilising and then blending into the roof and B pillar.
It'll be interesting to see what the shipping costs from US to UK are along with the duty and tax that you'll be paying. I hope you'll detail this in upcoming episodes. Are you planning on shipping from the East or West Coast? Containerised or RoRo?
Would there be any benefit of shipping the engine and gearbox separately so the car attracts less duty as a valuable classic car and more of a rolling work in progress? I'm considering importing a couple of cars from Missouri next year - neither of which are running. We could share a container! Best of luck with everything and look forward to your next instalment.
Congratulations! Looking forward to watching this build.
Now that you have a DETOMASO PANTERA, I have a Chrysler TC by Maserati that DETOMASO helped produce. No comparison though! Congratulations, Steve
Great to see the beginnings of a brand new journey. Congratulations and good luck!
Congratulations Jack, what a fabulous car to own and develop, I look forward to watching this project over the coming months/years!
Jack. What an awesome project. Can't wait to see the work on the pantera and then you driving it on the cotswolds roads.
Congratulations Jack!! This is going to be a great new series, looking forward to that!!
Good luck!
Fantastic. I look forward to watching your progress!
Kudos to you Jack for your obviously huge passion to go through all the hassle of bringing such an adorable car over from the states :)
Jack, I can't wait to see this project evolves.
I love your content and look forward to your videos.
Keep up the good work
Congratulations Jack, this build will be epic and at the end will be a truly iconic car. All the best. John. Look forward to watching the complete rebuild.
Fantastic. Very much looking forward to following this. Congratulations dude!
When i was a kid i always wanted a Pantera. I had a picture on my bedroom wall and a couple of books on the Pantera. Never got one so you are a lucky man.
Ooh! Can’t wait to follow this one Jack!
A good base to start from but lots still to do methinks!
👍👏👏👏❤️
Great project!! Looking forward to future videos on this. Glad you got to see America’s Heartland. Best of luck on your Pantera adventure!!
Jim is a legend, this is a great part of Edmond Oklahoma, and you have a FANTASTIC DIAMOND...she just needs some good old-fashioned British elbow grease!!! Grab all the bits you can from the USA...take advantage of that Sterling buying power!!!
Wow - what a great adventure! I'm happy to see you with the car, and I'm looking forward to watching it progress!
The issue relating to the vehicle's rear arches could be shrinkage of the spray on primer-filler or the polyester putty (aka Bondo). Past experience with US sourced cars 'suggests' that regular US body/spray shops have a tendency to 'over do it' when it comes to applying Bondo or spray on filler.
Looks like filler shrinkage/crazing to me too. Arches are often overfilled it seems.
Primer filler can level surfaces but should mostly be sanded off not used to build up large areas.
@@philtowle4683 Agree - however past experience indictates that some body shops don't (sadly) adhere to good practice.
Brilliant Jack. Will be following this epic build
Nice one, Jack. Must have been so hard for the family to let it go but it is in good hands now. We know you'll do right by the family and the car. Really looking forward to seeing you bring it back to life.
Wow, Jack! Congrats! Can't wait to see much more about this gem!
Wow! Awesome. I am looking forward to the next instalment.
Well done, a dream come true - a very nice new project, looking forward to following the progress
Congratulations on the new purchase. Looking forward to you completing this project.
Wow, you're really doing this!
Amazing!
Great shape…proper reliable platform…congrats.
Congratulations!
I'll miss your 308, but really looking forward to watching you get your hands greasy.
Cheers
Excellent! I was hoping you'd do something like this. I'm looking forward to it and I wish you good luck and thanks for being bonkers.
Great video!!!! That looks like the project with no end in fun, especially with a fabulous car as the end game. Have a blast, I'm very happy for you.
Trust you got a good deal on it,Jack.I shall be waiting to see your next upload.all the best for now,
Fantastic. So looking forward to your videos to follow . I’m sure you will make Anita proud . This adds so much to your restoration journey .
Congratulations Jack! the 308 was epic and what drew me to your channel and I doubted you would replace it with anything suitable but how wrong was I!! I am genuinely exceited to see how this is going to play out and will be so pleased to see you spannering again in the videos in your garage! I like the reviews and you do those so well but the repairs are what I have always enjoyed most.
Good luck and I will be watching with great interest.
Looking forward to following this project. I have always loved the Pantera. Good luck!
Wow !, Jack you're "moving on up", upping the game, fantastic adventure, nice looking Pantera. Great vid stock to be doing the work yourself as you've done in the past. I'M ALL IN!
Congratulations Jack! Should be a lot of fun!!
Now this is going to be a great series! Looking forward to following the progress
In 1973 I took my first trip to Europe and while in Italy I visited DeTomaso.
In 1975 I decided I wanted a Pantera, and I found and bought a 1973 example in French blue. I later realized I might’ve been at the factory while the car I ultimately bought was being built!
I really liked the car and it ran like a banshee, but the air con wasn’t up to a Southwestern US summer.
Two days after I sold it I saw it in front of a body shop with the front bonnet lid pushed up and over the windshield. Apparently the new owner was taken by surprise by the car’s performance . . .
My fondest memories of a Pantera were around 20 years ago, having a spirited drive in my integrale and this blue GT5S went passed me close to Gleneagles hotel. It was a biblical moment. Well done Jack, the early bumper cars are even more special. This is major YT car porn.
Fantastic project. Look forward to the next vid
Beautiful project car....good luck with it Jack, I look forward to some good winter evening viewing in the coming months.
Panteras rock just sayin... And Mike knows his stuff!
Wow. That's a fine. Good luck with completing the restoration, Jack. I'll be watching with interest.
Wonderful. I really look forward to your content on this. And congratulations of course. 👏
Am STOKED for you Jack....REALLY looking forward to watching your Journey with this one...
Amazing project, looking forward to following
You'll have to think of a name... Many congratulations with your new purchase. So exciting, Jack!!
Thank you for the great video and the interesting story behind the Pantera.
Nice one Jack. Very happy for you 😊
Congratulations Jack, great car and an extremely high bar to follow in the footsteps of Jim.
This will be great to follow on youTube. Congrats on the acquisition :)
Looking forward to this, always liked the lines on the pantera.
Looks like a great project, I wish I had a garage like that. The Detomaso Pantera is my favorite sports car.
Hopefully some longer videos coming up 😊. Great find, really looking forward to this one
Wooha! Congratulations Jack, looking forward to seeing this project develop.
Omg, a pantera, one of my absolute favourite cars. I have to admit I'm a bit jealous, this is going to be awesome 👌.
Awesome! can wait to watch your restoration 🍻🚗
Fantastic Jack. Looking forward to future videos.
Looking forward to the journey mate. Best of luck Jack.
