" The kings of the streets " and their art. Thank you Raoul. Tuba Skinny the ultimate band
I closed my eyes and imagined living in a flat nearby, listening to them playing down in the street - so mellow!
Love this band…and the music😊
What a beautiful song. Very well done I might add. I can just picture a dejected lover walking the street, hands in his pockets, head down, meandering outside the Saturday Night Function, while the one he pines for is inside with his rival.
So good , the timing and spacing is perfect, each musician respecting each other, talented
Absolutely fantastic. Shaye and the rest of the Tuba Skinny players rock!!!
Simultaneously precise and relaxed.
Many thanks, Randy. 'Saturday Night Function' was composed in 1929 by Duke Ellington and Barney Bigard. It is included in Tuba Skinny's 2019 CD entitled 'Some Kind-a-Shake'. As you can hear, in this performance it is in the key of E flat and comprises a beautiful 16-bar theme played at the start (00:01 to 00:33) which is played again at the finish (from 03:24), with seven conventional 12-bar blues choruses in between. The beauty of this lovely performance owes much to the quiet delicacy with which the band plays and the economical use of notes. It's as if they are giving a practical demonstration of Nadia Boulanger's precept: 'Use as few notes as possible to achieve the intended effect.' Craig perfectly establishes the use of 'few notes' with his first chorus at 00:34. And Shaye and Barnabus sweetly support his second chorus (from 01:00) just as Shaye and Craig sweetly support Barnabus's second chorus (from 01:48). Max's chorus and Shaye's single chorus sustain the mood of delicacy and restraint.
What you said. Pops!!!
Thank-you Pops !!

@@user-og1nb8xt8f 'Scintillating'?!!! Wow. Many thanks.
Thanks for the breakdown. Your sentence about the quiet delicacy says it all. And managed with a sousaphone and trombone and washboard too! A lovely piece of playing by one of the greatest bands ever. And no, that;s not hyperbole.
Glad you agree, Allan; and that the band has yet another devotee.
Masters of New Orleans climate.
I'm overwhelmed, absolutely brilliant!
Thanks, made my day!
Excellent
If that doesn't touch a listener's inner soul - They don't have a soul.
exquisite. Thank You!
What a beautiful song. Arranged and played perfectly. When they get to Maine in a couple of months, I hope to see them.
Are they going to be in Bangor?
I don’t remember for sure but I think not. Check their website.
