    1) Find a good teacher to not feel overwhelmed
    2) Pronunciation is very important - know how to say the word, not just understand it (practice using a Pinyin chart)
    3) Vocabulary (textbooks and online resources e.g HSK Academy)
    4) Grammar (this is when people start needing a teacher)

I totally agree with you! You say only meaningful things. I recommend "Road to success" as a textbook, it's cleverly divided into topics and the vocabulary is gradually introduced in a meaningful way, so it makes it easy to remember. To me the textbook did matter, because it was almost a nightmare studying with Boya Chinese. There was no plan behind it.

Recommend the music being pushed way in the back. At least half from what I'm hearing. We shouldn't have to struggle to hear tones with competing music upfront like this. Rule of thumb: If you notice it, it's too loud. It can sure be there, but if we start "hearing it" then it becomes a distraction. Comment made with respect and love as always JJ :). Keep up your great work - you're a real 'Star' :)

To be honest, Chinese is not as hard as you think, But it may uncomfortable for a beginner at first. As there's no changes on verbs and nons, even without tense, So it is your duty to adjuste your speaking habits.
Chinese is not difficult, but in no case is it easy as we suppose.
I am Chinese, and I also learn Chinese grammar, but it. is much deeper including the grammar of classical Chinese.

To start from zero you are the only one who can help yourself first by learning a bunch of words (vocabulary), study grammar and than just talk to people... You do not need a professional teacher. Your friends who speak that language that you wanna learn will be your "teachers". Teachers are for advanced learners I think... This video is full of commercials/sponsors. You MUST help yourself first because no one else can.

oceanniez hi! It doesn’t have to necessarily be HSK academy - but vocabulary in general afterwards is really good. If you don’t know of other sources to get vocab (textbooks, free websites, etc) I would do the hsk academy. Only thing though that the hsk academy UA-cam channel uses an automated voice for Chinese pronunciations (which are not always the most correct with tones) so I would find videos with actual people speaking the vocabulary to assist 💗

Remember, Chinese is divided into 6 HSKs. I recommend you start with HSK 1. I can say more if you're interested. Between late last month (March) and this now, I've been able to learn how to pronounce, read and write 50 HSK 1 characters and even how to use them in a sentence. Its really amazing 😊
And by the way, I also just started my UA-cam channel. It's all about arts, creativity, vlog and of course, I'd be sharing my Chinese Language learning journey on this space😊😀
You can start from scratch even if you don't have many resources. You just need to be determined
      I'm so excited.
I'm also learning Korean as well and I've been able to learn Hangeul and some vocabularies.
      I anticipate your response friend

I dabbled in Chinese during college, I enjoyed studying it as a hobby but I had no real reason to learn it other than curiosity. I managed to obtain a reading and listening level of Hsk3 but never really practiced speaking or communicating because I didn't have a strong motivation to. After college, I ended up losing 95% of the language before I finally figured out what I want to do with my life. I can't really say I regret it because I wasn't mature enough to understand the benefits of speaking Mandarin and continuing on back then wouldn't have been fruitful. Now that I've found a true motivation to learn, I picked up Chinese again 2 weeks ago from the very beginning and have been studying it a few hours each day. I constantly search for videos to give some insight on studying independently. I'm excited to one day be able to communicate with the friends I made in China in their own language as well. Thank you for making content like this, new resources and insight are so helpful.

@@mariajoselicht7770 don't worry, Chinese people very kind, if you speak it wrong, sometimes it will listen very funny, but finally they will correct you, so just say out with Chinese, and they would love to help you

My advice is to just listen to more television, radio, etc.... like babies, we kind of start absorbing that information and can better recognize when something doesn't sound natural! It's just mostly an issue of exposure. 😊

Im totally a beginner, I dont know why I am interested in this language, really I HAVE NO IDEA. Its funny because since I started learning Mandarin, I find it so difficult. However, since I REALLY WANT TO LEARN IT (even if it is self-taught) your video is a huge kick! It motivates and inspires me more! With your program, I do believe that in 3 months I can speak like a 3-5 year old Chinese kid and by 6 months, I probably can speak Chinese.
Thank you for creating this video! I really appreciate it. You are a great help!
