I subscribed. Thank you very much for this lesson. I think you are from what we call the old country, across the pond so to say, anyway I'm from the state of Alabama in the good old USA. A late comer to playing guitar, I'm 59 but having time of my life. I wished I had had youtube growing up, it's great to share and learn. May God Bless you. Thanks, Johnny Rocco
+Johnny Rocco I am from New Zealand Johnny. Next to Australia in the Sth Pacific. I am 66 but started playing at 11. There was no You Tube in those days either. Had to write out all the lyrics and chords by hand and learn how to play songs by ear. I am now giving back to music the fun it has given me over the years. I hope the lesson helps, cheers, Malcolm
Sometimes as musicians I believe it is cool to improvise. This is a really good song to improvise the solos. I have shown which pentatonic scale to use and a few key riffs that give the songs essence. I highly recommend that you let your creative juices flow and improvise the solo. Maybe listen to the original song first to get the feel, Good luck, Malcolm
Are you dropping the tuning just for the low E string, or all the strings? If you drop just the E string, that's called drop-D tuning, but John Fogerty tunes ALL the strings down (he typically uses this tuning on a lot of CCR songs; Bad Moon Rising, Proud Mary, Lodi...). Also, I feel sure that the root chord for this song - at least the CCR version - is D7, not Dm. Could be wrong, but that's my astute observation.
Not to be argumentative but only for discussion...I think you are mostly right in that JF will tune down a whole step for several songs. When he grabs the black Les Paul it's a pretty good bet he's down a whole step. Two possibilities come to mind...if you don't have an abundance of guitars you can more quickly and easily tune the big E down and play the whole thing in D or, if you have another guitar available you can do the whole step down and play in E. In either case the drone note in the signature riff is available on the top string. I also think that you correctly point out that CCR uses D7 or perhaps just Dmaj. That is what also gives Bluegrass some of its characteristic sound...playing minor scale notes over a major chord.
Yes Seth for the lesson I did. It would be out of tune if you are playing full bar chords and hitting the sixth string. You could play those chords and just be careful you don't strum the sixth string. If I was playing it in the band I wouldn't play full bar chords, just the top 4 or 5 strings and leave the bass player to get the depth.
@@MalcolmKirkMusic Or if your lucky enough to have a Rhythm player that's tuned to 440. I didn't hear you mentioning tuning back up to that Eastern so I thought it might be worth mentioning that to your viewers because the beginning guitar player will be totally confused when he goes to play those chords
Great lesson, thanks from Toronto, Canada! I never realized that Fogerty used drop D tuning for the intro.
Very cool indeed.

Greetings fellow Kiwi, I have just come to realise that John Fogarty tuned his strings down either a half or whole step. Great tutorial.

Thanks for the lesson. Are you going to be covering the first solo as well by any chance?

Dglazma
it's D minor in standard tuning , but Fogerty tunes all the strings down a whole tone and plays the E minor chord
Dglazman yes I’m sure that when the vocals come in it’s d major and not d minor
First solo please!
cool
hi please what is the brown small amp beside you? great looking!
Camus Uzan it is a Tone King Falcon 12w combo.
Camus Uzan Tone King 12w Combo amazing vintage tube amp.
That was great hombre -like your amp too, what brand is it ?
Amp is a Tone King Falcon
So are back to standard tunings when your using the bar chords or you leave it drop D
Back to standard tuning
Did u switch tuning back to standard for the verse and chorus???

Couldn't you just play in D standard and shift your hand 2 frets up?
Easy with a Variax....switch tunings with a footswitch. 👍😎
What kind of amp is that in background? The one that has knobs like an old TV.
Obviously you tune back to e on the 6th string for the Rhythm Section correct?
YEP
@@MalcolmKirkMusic Tough to do live. :)
@@lungloogie Leave your tuner on or dont play that string

E string, not eastern. Talk text
so after the intro do you jump back into standard tuning?
ofc not, just mute the low D string with your index instead of playing it
It's possible with a Variax 👍😁
dude That's a nice guitar where did you get it?
It was Gibson Custom Shop made to measure Les Paul 59 Reissue. I sell them if you want one?
qual é a afinação ?
afinação padrão mas com a 6a corta afinada em Ré
Drop D
Forgerty tunes his guitar a hole step down not only the 6th string
Damn fogerty used frop d before it was cool
Kiwi fruit.
