Omg, the 'gray mush' statement was the BEST analogy I've ever heard and I'm glad someone friggin' said it. I watch digital illustration timelapses and tutorials all the time. Every single time, the artist says something about laying down all your flats first with a hard brush, and then blending it all out with a softer brush (with some hard edges where needed, cause' otherwise, ew). And yeah, I think that's one way to paint, and it probably works for them, but it really does come off as, "We're gonna blend the SHIT OUTTA EVERYTHING, NOW!" instead of a step-by-step informative painting.
You finally taught me something - I learned how to talk about the highlights in my art - its lightning I have been saying it wrong this whole time. Thats why it looked bad now my art will sell for millions.
It's actually not very smart for a content creator to follow too many people. Perceived value is everything. If they see that the artist is not following too many people but a million are following their page, then the perceived value is high. The opposite is true as the numbers reverse. I have watched some videos on it, and I believe it affects my Instagram. I don't care at the moment since I am still in the learning phases of portrait art and other types of art, so I follow as many as I want.
I honestly think you make the best tutorials here because you really show us the real way to practice and to draw better rather than just dropping a tutorial where we learn nothing. Thank you so much and goood who’s making fun of you, I literally love your english accent haha, so 😍 haha
Holy shit, i finally found a GREAT portrait guide that doesnt tell me to copy and paste everything from the reference without thinking about the fundamentals Subscribed

You had me at Andrew Loomis. That's what the older artists have been studying. Criticizing is better than empty praise or, sometimes, cliche positive phrases.
This is so incredibly helpful. People say things like “just practice” and then trying to learn stuff just feels so overwhelming because there is so much to learn. I appreciate you breaking it down into WHAT to learn and when. I would 100% take a course taught by you.
Holy crap, I'm only on page 21 of Drawing the Head and Hands and I've already been able to draw a better head than just by myself. I've gotten a better understanding but that doesn't mean I'm amazing at it, but now I'm more motivated to practice more now with the book. Thanks so much Angel!
I found his art on the internet while searching for inspiration. He's a great teacher and your humour just makes me more motivated to listen and implement this stuff that he teaches. I find that I learn best from you and not some silly art masterclass. I found everything in this video to be useful. from the pie-making to the lighting. Keep being amazing.

I've been watching your UA-cam videos for a couple of days (and I make sure to watch those dang ads...) and it's pretty cool that you've never gone to art school and still were able to become a pro artist.

You make me feel like I actually have a chance to learn to draw. All these random eye and whatever tutorials terrified me and left me overwhelmed. I won't have to worry about rendering until years later; it's suck a relieving thought man. One step a time, just like learning science and maths. I'm good at sciences and maths. I really appreciate your sense of humour and i can tell I’m going to learn some things. ✌🏻 💜 🖌️ Thanks in advance!
Bro this is extremely helpful. I want to get better at painting and drawing realistically but learning where to start is overwhelming. This is just to the point and I love that.
I think your channel is pretty much my artbook. I always recommend your videos to people who have nailed the bare basics and want to learn how to improve. Bruv you have such useful tips!

I really liked how you divided the process into different steps than just bring all aspects of art into one video (like most instagram tutorials). It actually helps with working on multiple art pieces than just one that, lets be honest, will not show all the progression trying to be made.
Finallyyyy, I found the video that would answer my questions. Thankk youuu very much. This explains more than what other artists replied to me. My brain was functioning so well this time that I wrote a right keyword on the search bar and found this video. Aaaaahhh I'm soooo so happy hshshshsh.
Thank you very much, Angel. I imagine because of the title of your last video that you are not working at UA-cam anymore. I find your tutorials very useful and I feel I can actually learn and feel the potatoes I draw, I mean, humans, are taking shape. Since art is just a hobby I wouldn't invest on paid classes and it is pretty nice to feel like I'm learning the real thing here and being able to draw things that make me happier. I appreciate the time you were producing here, thank you very much and I love your jokes :p
Thank you so much, I’ve been struggling w art and thinking where I should begin. I thought anatomy would be a good start but I found myself interested in portraits and people always did the circle of the head and then magically started colouring 😵💫 this helps to put things in a structure for me thank youuu
omg finally i have hope again... this is exactly what i thought about my 10 drawings. yea, they look friggin good actually, thanks to the tutorial I watched. but actually i learned nothing. I just copied what I say with no real understanding. I gave up bc i was like wth how am I gonna learn how to REALLY draw, not just copy. So oml this video was so helpful. I took notes and now I will try to follow the steps. Slowly but surely. Thanks SO mUCH
It’s super tempting to actually try your Methode of getting better for a year. Painting for an hour a day, heck even 30 min will get you somewhere. I just find it hard to...start. Idk why but picking that pen up and start drawing is somehow a challenge. Hope I am not alone there xdd anyway, I WILL try your Methode and hopefully become better
I've got a degree from the Art Center College of Design in Pasadena, I've practiced as a commercial artist for years and taught art at the college level for 10 years and this punk is exactly right.

I’m so happy to have come across this We have to make a self portrait as an art assignment and I am allowed to use digital media Thank you so much! Keep it up bud!
I actually learned about visual "symbols" in college, so you've clearly done your research! Like the difference between a stick wtih a cotton ball on it, vs. the shapes of a real tree. Discovered you two days ago and I'm highly entertained lol.
This tutorial came and punched me in the face then picked me back up, sat me down and passed me my tablet pen with a subtle nod. (Oh a real note I really needed a push at the moment and this helped hella lot you fucking legend.)
This was so good! My brain can focus on nothing else other than jumping right to color. When you started bringing up sketching and structure, I had to go back and re-watch like 4 times. And you're right, because I've only been able to focus on color, I've just been making "puddles." 😆 Great video!
I've started self teaching myself to paint/draw. I've spent a mont practicing, watching tutorials, and courses. And it all feels like bullshit after watching this video. Seriously I've learned more from this than from a month of watching other videos.
Hi Angel! Thanks for the shout out! Again, this is another very helpful video from you! Definitely a video worth watching! Sharing this to art friends who’ll find this helpful. Keep it up!
I'm already a decent artist. But I love going through tutorials to see if I can pick up new tips. Coming across your video was a really pleasant surprise. I had a few friends that want to get into art but I'm a TERRIBLE teacher. I'm definitely saving your video to show them. It does really good at hammering home the ideas of your basics foundation before getting fancy. Well done buddy!
bro this is so helpful like every tutorial i had watched had just been too individual without structure so i just thought i was bad, i am still bad but at least i can get better.
Oh whyy did i not find out about Angel sooner I've wasted so many years HAHAHA lucky im just now transitioning from traditional to digital art there's still time to relearn stuff and quit bad habits 😌

Angel doesn't sugar coat anything- that's why he good gives criticism.
Dude this is amazing content. Good work. You earned a sub!!

You didn't go to art school and are self taught, you say you don't know what you're talking about, but BRUH THE WORDS COMING OUT OF YOUR MOUTH ARE THE WORDS OF A PROFESSOR WHO HAS BEEN TEACHING FOR 15YEARS AND HAS BEEN DOING PORTRAITS FOR 13CENTURIES, 👏👏👏
