I've just stumbled upon these gems. I've been binging all evening. I watched these programmes as the went out in the 70s and they were great. It's interesting how times have changed and not for the better. Well done for posting them, I have a long way to go.

Absolutely sterling performanves by the barristers. The defence lady using every theatrical trick sowing deeds of doubt of the charges on the accused and the prosecution being delightfully sinister and authorative. Ricky Tomlinson is a delight to see. Good job the defendant was not asked about a certain supermarket in Peckham! :) MILLION thanks Jez T.

I think taking hostages + firearms + conspiracy + attempting to steal the takings would have made for an interesting case. Fortunately Del Boy ensured moral justice saw the light of day.

Interestingly, this actress’s grandfather was a barrister and it makes me wonder whether this influenced her excellent performance.

And she was in operational control of all activities of the Rebel Alliance just a few months later. Many Bothams died securing the plans to destroy the Australians in 1985 - or something like that.

This case has reminded me. Could anyone please identify a TV drama (or Play for Today?) from circa 1978? A 30-something bloke with a moustache gets beaten up by a gang after he asks them to turn their music down. The leader may have been played by Ziggy Byfield - or a similar actor. The victim, staying with friends, runs into the gang bloke's girlfriend, and they start a strange romance. He expresses love for her when she's in the bath. She shouts "Whoo-hooo!" and playfully throws a sponge at him. It all goes wrong when Mr Moustache hears the gang in a pub - something his girlfriend has told her ex enrages the older bloke. At that point, my grandfather came into the room and said: "What a squalid, unpleasant story!" Which it was, but I'd love to see it again.😂

As others have remarked Vas Blackwood is always worth watching. I see Caroline Blakiston was 49 when this was made; gorgeous. I love the way she talks to witnesses, like a Duchess talking down to an errant servant girl.

Completely agree. The exchange between her and Anton Lesser (the teacher John Peat) was electrifying. Caroline Blakiston and Richard Wilson (appearing in other uploads) are my favourite CC actors. 👍

I don't think the teacher got beaten up at all. He was in a crowded place where pushing and shoving occurred. He probably fell over and was trampled, not fatally, but badly enough to sustain injuries. The kid wasn't a model pupil, but he wasn't habitually violent. The Deputy Head's word there would've carried some clout (no pun).

Surprisingly one-dimensional offering from a series which usually featured quite complex cases. I wonder if this would have been tried at a lower court in reality. Common assault, surely?

Another "Not Guilty" verdict in a case where the accused was clearly guilty. Not even one juror voted for Not Guilty - unbelievable
I saw the actor playing the victim in an episode of Midsomer Murders just yesterday. The episode about the illegal trade in rare bird eggs.

You mean not one voted guilty as it was the verdict of all. Actually for the time i am pleasantly surprised that there wasnt a racial element. That the teacher didnt immediately ID him to the police did weaken the case

That's one of the interesting things about Crown Court, the verdict is never certain. They achieve that uncertainty by enrolling members of the public to act as jury. The verdicts are so unpredictable that no scriptwriter could have contrived them. It really emphasises how differently we all see things - and to realise just how similar a real-life jury could be.
