2:36 this was too funny. Chef John spends like 30 seconds explaining how the bag helps make the sides look nicer and then he spills on the sides. The “aww sonuva……..” was too good. Love you Chef John
This recipe is absolutely perfect, I've made it at least five times now. It's even good when you overcook it. I did that the first time, it tasted almost like a mousse. Absolutely heavenly. Thank you so much for this recipe!
Tim Brückmann I love your picture!!! I watch Bob Ross vids almost everyday! Anybody who loves bob enough to use his picture has got to be a great person 👍
This is the first Food Wishes video I had ever watched. I was hooked after this. I went through every video on this channel! I love watching you cook and hearing you speak! You are soo funny! I
agreed you are very fun to listen to ! Your humor and cool chilled personality lightens and makes the recipes and process so much more enojoyble and interesting thanks. MY ONLY THING IW ISH WISH TAT YOU WOULD DO - would be to put all the measurements of the ingredients up at the end of each vid .. it would make it that much more convenient and amazing
I have watched this video so many times (whenever I need some chocolate food. erm. videos... i refuse to say the p word) that I start laughing at 2:38 in anticipation of when 2:49 to come up.
Chef, this was your best vlog so far, sound-wise, really enjoyable to listen to. No talking over background music, no singsong sway in your voice, just pleasant, educational... nice!
Reminiscent of the boxed "pudding cakes" of the 1960's. My mom used to make these as a special treat for me and my siblings. Great to have a from-scratch recipe. Q: Chef John, or anybody: why is it necessary to refrigerate the batter before baking? Just curious. Thanks.
This video has the best-looking molten cake on youtube! I browsed all of the videos to find out which recipe I'm gonna copy tomorrow, and I think this is it! YYYYYYYYESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS
Love this recipe. I do the same thing with chocolate souffle(leave the inside a lil under-cooked. It's the best. And, when you refrigerate it, it is like amazing cold fudge. Dumping heavy cream on it, tones down that dark chocolate bite, if you prefer milk chocolate. Chef John is the man!
Oh my God! The cake is done and it literally blew my mind. It's like liquid velvet in my mouth... People, you have to try this out, this is the best chocolate cake I ever had.
11 years ago??? Chef John, how long have you been making these wonderful videos? Hey... UA-cam... How come you've only just shown me this wonderful channel this year? Chef John... You are wonderful too and so are your recipes. My food wish? Not possible, 😭
I call it chocolate pudding cake. I’ve made it for years, but you can’t tell. Because I’m barely 100lbs. So it’s not fattening at all 😜 I also use a good strong coffee to pour over it, and the cake soaks up all the coffee to make extra extra pudding. I will try it your way also.
I made this a couple of days ago, and they were delicious!! I made four, and since we were only three, I saved the last one. It tasted even better the day after, even cold!Thank you so much for the recipe! =)
love it you make it look easy but delicious I will try it I love to watch all your videos even some times its hard to find some items but thank you for all your efforts dalia
THANK YOU for using *DARK* chocolate! White chocolate (which is an oxymoron in itself) is *NOT* chocolate...and milk chocolate is not as good - imho - as pure, luscious, richer-than-Donald-Trump, dark chocolate! :D
Chef John, I Love You’re recipe’s and The Production of Your Videos Are Awesome! I have tried several of Your Recipes, Like Your Lemon Potatoes, Delicious! My Grandson Who Doesn’t Like Anything Except When I Made Them, He bugs every week To Make Them Again! Thanks! DH
Me and my friend tried to make this! Messed up big time with the ingredients and the forms we had were a little too big. We only got two cakes, haha. Still, tasted quite good! Going to buy some new forms just for the sake of the cake! Awesome dessert, thanks a lot!
I love ur recipes❤️💯 U are my new TEUSTED recipe channel. Most ithers AND Googling recipes is usually a fail for me BUT i was convinced when i made the Baklava and now i am ur loyal fan and servant. Ty
i am definetly going to try that- so much greatness and knowledge learned. I thought the "lava" was poked into the cake after it was done. Soo cool. Great video!
Just made this. It was absolutely heaven!! It was perfect. Lasted 10 seconds on the table :P Best recipe I've come across. 218 C Ramekins are not a must. I used a Chinese tea cup that was oven safe. If you don't have anything small, just use any oven safe bowl. If it's big, just reduce the baking time. Do butter the bottom of you baking dish extra...The sides you can cut :P
I'm doing this right now sir. Mixture is already in the fridge and oven is heating up :"D I tasted the chocolate and it was extremely delicious. I can't wait to eat it in a few minutes. Thanks for the video!
it actually makes the sweetness stand out more, believe it or not... i've seen several cooking shows, where the chefs called for salt in dessert recipes to highlight the sweetness and i have used it too... it works! :-)
I absolutely love this channel and this is the most funny video ever posted here. You always put a smile on my face, because you're always funny, but this one is the winner! hahahahaha And I'm definitely gonna try this recipe because it looks delicious! :P
i did it with out the chocolate bar and just put co coa powder in with the melted butter and it made a nice melted chocolate and in the end it tased great :D
Hi Chef John! Amazing video! Have you tried the Lindt dark chocolate with chili? It’s fabulous! I’m making the lava cake tonight for my sisters birthday!🍰🍫🎂🧁🥡🥢🥂🍭🍩🥮🍣🍱🍝🥪🥞🥩🍔🌭🥓🌯🍕🌮🍦☘️🐲🦋👑😎
O my goodness. This is chef John 13 years ago hahaha. Still a jokester. Still that nice jazzy music at the end. And as always....enjoy! The is bordering on legendary at this point
hammyarr, you can separate the egg yolks and the egg whites around it and use only the yolks. Just split the egg in half while tilting the egg upwards over a bowl so that you will retain the yolk and the whites will slide down the sides. You can pour the remaing yolk and white into the other half, tilting it up of of course and go back and forth until very little white remains. Use the remaining whites for something else or discard. Use the seperated yolks with 2 more unseparated eggs.
Ingredients: 2 large eggs 2 large egg yolks 5 tbsp butter 3 tbsp sugar 3.5 oz dark chocolate (this is one standard chocolate bar) 3 tbsp flour 4 tsp good (aka expensive) cocoa powder pinch salt 1/8 tsp vanilla
this is my 3rd time making it! It's currently in the fridge :) The 1st time I made it I overcooked it, 2nd time was HEAVENLY, and now I'm eagerly waiting to get my friends to envy me >:))))
2:36 this was too funny. Chef John spends like 30 seconds explaining how the bag helps make the sides look nicer and then he spills on the sides. The “aww sonuva……..” was too good. Love you Chef John

Notice that he hasn't figured out about the phrase 'ol-tapa-tapa'
i believe it's spelled ol' tappa tappa
It was the young tappa tappa back then.
I wonder if they can be refrigerated for more than 30 minutes? Say....4 hours. To have them pre-prepared for a dinner party
he doesn't say "cacao" either
Gotta give your comment the ooooool' like-a like-a!

This video is more hilarious that usual! But just as delicious :P
I just adore his passion! He loves cooking with all his heart - it's noticeable from the first second of any video he makes!
Reminiscent of the boxed "pudding cakes" of the 1960's. My mom used to make these as a special treat for me and my siblings. Great to have a from-scratch recipe.
Q: Chef John, or anybody: why is it necessary to refrigerate the batter before baking? Just curious. Thanks.

How long should I cook this in the microwave?
+Scott Worthington you should never cook anything in the microwave. just defrost warm up or popcorn.
Koen Femer there are lots of vids on here of cake cooked in mugs in the microwave. Haven’t tried one yet but plan to.
Koen Femer it was invented for a reason you know
You are amazing, Chef John! Love your channel and your food. Thank you!!!❤
when you go through the whole recipe and then overcook it like 2 minutes -__-
I did this with milk chocolate because that's all I had... still tasted really good.
what, no cayenne?
"If you don't make this for Valentines day...ther-there's something wrong with you."
Freaking hell. I love the way you say that!!!
Wait, no cayenne pepper??
New Chapter I’ve never made lace cake but it’s common to use cayenne?
It's common for chef John to use cayenne for everything :p
I made this a couple of days ago, and they were delicious!! I made four, and since we were only three, I saved the last one. It tasted even better the day after, even cold!Thank you so much for the recipe! =)

There are tears in my eyes. This is so beautiful
