Mind-Blowing Modern Tiny Tree House Built with Reclaimed Materials - FULL TOUR

- Опубліковано 5 вер 2024
- This epic 2-storey log tree house is built around 9 hemlock posts and salvaged and reclaimed materials that Mike, the builder, saved for years before starting this 3-year project. The upstairs is a complete living area with two sleeping spaces, a kitchen, living and dining room, and a small bathroom. Downstairs is an outdoor lounge area and a full indoor bathroom. It's a really unique space and we're really excited to give you a full tour!
You can find The Wakefield Treehouse on Airbnb and Instagram here:

The foundation of the treehouse is 9 hemlock posts that are on concrete footings anchored to the bedrock and the treehouse has 420 square feet of heated living space. The home is on the grid for electricity, and it has it's own well and septic system.
It was really exciting and inspiring for us to meet Mike and his partner Gen, and to hear the story of how the tiny tree house cabin idea came to life after visiting tiny houses and treehouses on their travels, and how they made it a reality by building with scrap and leftover materials that Mike had collected from job sites for years.
We hope you enjoyed touring it as much as we did!
Thanks for watching!

I really like how he said it was to help him reconnect to his trade. That's true passion.
That's exactly what caught my attention the most ... I Feel like people don't realize people can being or do actually lose interests in there hobbies
The owner is very humble, this house is a mind blowing!!!
One of the best unique "tiny" houses I've ever seen. I would love living in that.
This is the best green project. 😃
Not some 5000 ft2 monster with triple glazing 🤢
NE C / You have so much Living Space outside the two floors and the essence of air in and around you! I rather feel like a soaring eagle or a Gemini Angel!
Would be illegal, prob'ly. Need to be built to local specs...'lectric, plumbing, foundation, yadda yadda...this thing aint, of course. Lots of illegal tiny houses out there, too. Owner- built, no plans, no permit, often situated where zoning disallows them. Pictured in a setting that appears to be located in a natl park. OTOH, could be fake gnus.
Yes. Just annoyed I clicked it as it's not a treehouse at all... those are considered to build in/around one or more living trees (or dead trees left in situ -- original trunk, roots, etc -- but that might be a rot-problem longer term). This is a house on wonky stilts, not a treehouse AT ALL.
same :)
“Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things that you didn't do than by the ones you did so. So throw off the bowlines. Sail away from the safe harbor. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover.”
--Mark Twain
So beautiful, thanks.
He didn't mean building a house in the woods. He meant, get out of your house and experience the world.
@@tarikay93 Thanks, Captain Obvious. But what Mark Twain was saying in context to the tree house was doing something different, getting out of one's comfort zone, essentially. And for the guy to save a bunch of reclaimed wood and turn it into SUCH a masterpiece is something very few will ever do in their lives. Best of all, the guy (and presumably his wife/GF, friends and family) will now get to enjoy living in it for a long time...all at a minimal cost.
So creative...i dreamed a dream
20 years ago I made the biggest mistake of my life. Still haunts me to this day. Feels bad man.
the kitchen balcony... 4:29 is everything...no cars noises, no alarms, no traffic sounds, just so peaceful. Very dreamy house
Until you hop out of the shower onto the snow laden steps back upstairs.
If it's on air B & B that is the tell, he doesn't live there. He rents it out for people to party in. Which would be fun.
Impressive work btw.
@@barklordofthesith2997 yes, i know he doesn't live there.. but still would be very nice to stay there for a limited amount of time tho :)
Everyone gangsta till you hill a bloody scream outside
you had me at "bugs don't fly this high"
its true, most bugs and beetles and insects dont fly that high,
because if they did, they would get eaten by the birds,
come on think about it guys, i wish people would use the brains they was born with!
@@relaxedroblax3892 Not true. We own a penthouse in the tropics. It's the top 2 floors at 50 and 60 feet above the ground. We have all kinds of bugs flying around up there. Mosquitos, gnats, craneflies, dragonflies and wasps. But also we get frogs, lizards and other critters inside, running around ALL THE TIME. They fly up there. Believe me.
@@relaxedroblax3892 Wish away, Rob, but set an example. Sadly, you've evidently eschewed using yours to learn about spelling, punctuation, conjugation and other important writing skills.

i went to school and i learnt everything i needed to know..
but then i decided to go out in the world and enjoy my life, (i wasn't the kid that was wrapped up in cotton wool and told i needed to read the dictionary!)
i have had some amazing experiences and ive met some amazing and beautiful people.
i would rather have a memory full of good times and great life experiences than a memory full of pointless words,
and as you put it, "important writing skills"
Sadly i think your immaculate writting skills do not make you a better person
@@relaxedroblax3892 Rob, your reply makes the all-too-common mistake of framing a question as an "either-or" proposition. A person can learn all kinds of self-improvement skills both in and out of school, while also enjoying amazing adventures and friendships.
"i learnt everything i needed to know.." That's a sad, self-limiting statement. And it goes against your stated position, with which I completely agree, that "i wish people would use the brains they was born with!"
Many folks do want this kind of living but when we share our thoughts with family .. They call us crazy !
Many folks want this kind of living but not all of us have the funds or ability or experience to build. 🤷
Jennifer Yeager you save money to fund it. You get ability and experience by doing and building things. This is very basic.
Dont listen to your family or friends. Do what you want to do.
@@kattihatt I agree, do what makes your heart happy. Live your life, not someone else's ideal

Your house is absolutely gorgeous, just perfection, well done! Love what you did with the old beams.
Stunning! The amount of pride he has in his work and the amount of care he took in using reclaimed materials is inspiring. Thanks for sharing this beautiful home with us :)
For those of us who feel lost in life, when we see the amazing ingenuity our fellow human family is able to create and manifest , it is truly inspiring!
It really is
Truth! Definitely, gives a sense of achievement. Warmth
What a cool expression of who he is and what he believes in.
WELL DONE, MAN!!! Small footprint in the woods, with excellent foundation, on bedrock, WOW. A treehouse, with a view, surrounded by WONDERFUL TREES, in the cool area of Canada. Built close to the steep rock, for a pleasant walk in. Rest room facilities upstairs and down. Quality build. This is just wonderful. Thank you for sharing, from East Tennessee.
The man is a craftsman and his magnum opus is proof of that. This is one of the best hide-a-ways I've ever seen. I hope he and his family get to enjoy for years and years.
What a lovely human being. Living in harmony. And a stunning "sculpture" indeed!
This is brilliant! I love the reclaimed wood - that the 9 hemlocks weren't cut is wonderful. The hand-hewn beams are a delightful design element. The overall appearance is a stalwart watchtower, reminiscent of a classic firewatch, rather than an airy treehouse, but it looks so comfortable and it is so practical you could live there year-round.
This is fantastic. Well done with the heating option. Very smart, long lasting build choices. Very impressed
Wow... Honestly, this is just the coolest tiny-but-not-so-tiny house I've ever seen. Awesome job!
Man, I would love to come home to that every night.
Mosquitoes is just the beginning
Eveynight ? it seems im getting what u mean bro 😂
It's funny how a little bit of paint and spackle can make some recycled or repurposed materials look practically brand new!
Piddy 3825 / Awesome job; well done!
Its not that funny
yeah, great how some chemicals make something natural look better
You weren't kidding when you wrote "mind blowing". It is indeed. What a great place to live and isolate yourself from all the mess we are all facing nowadays. Great video and many thanks. I am subscribing.
This is unforgettable. The design really deserves an award. My concern is the rain. The dust. Other than that... Just wow
I love how you guys laid-in those salvaged timbers, awesome to see a bit of history built in that way!
This is truly the best thought-through, most practical treehouse I have ever seen, from the re-purposed/re-used materials to the very well-designed living space, and truly awesome views and placement in its environment. Love the luxury bathroom and “night bathroom” and the wonderful “story-telling” of the early settlers logs. What a great place to have as a home. He’s an awesome builder and craftsman. Just love his work and thoughtfulness. I’d live here!
This is a dream home...especially if it were near the ocean. So gorgeous!
This. Is. Breathtaking. Simply amazing. Such a beautiful story too.
“Indoor bathroom” sounds like “color tv”.
LMAO!!
😂😂😂 your right
Just wait till you find out what porta potties are 👁👄👁
So cool to see this guy be able to express his skill and passion with out too many restrictions!!! Nice job!!
Incredible. I'm in awe of this house and the guy who saved wood for 20yrs.
Very Very interesting 😉. The social places are bigger than the individual rooms. In that place and environment, it make sense. Great looks.
This HOME is breathtaking! Simple, by most standards but more than anything it is the passion, care and knowing that every inch of this home is put together with the upmost thought from material that has a second life. Truly amazing!
Best treehouse I’ve ever seen in my life
Not a tree house at all ...
What an absolutely fantastic structure! I’ve always loved treehouses and this might be the ultimate treehouse! I would do anything to own property like this! I know for a fact that I could live super comfortably in this year round. What a cool little place. You definitely did an amazing job building this little house up in the trees and you definitely deserve all the recognition for it! Take care and cheers!
Wow this is amazing. What a great job they’ve done. Such a beautiful living space. Looks so comfortable.
That bathroom is crazy for a treehouse no cap
super cool, sounds like a very creative and respectful guy - kudos on this awesome build, sir!
Beautiful...nice getaway from the chaotic city life... to live like the old days..with modern finishes.. lovely.. build more cabins for tourism and Weekenders...

Love it! Well done , there should be more builders in the world like you
Best retreat for pandemic and lockdown. So beautiful with mother nature has to offer. Love this one.
What a beautiful place! It's like you are up in the sky close to heaven. Just wow!
WOW!!! That tree house is mind-blowing indeed! Thanks so much for the wonderful tour ❤️❤️❤️
I thank God for showing me this video.
Wow, I love the design. It is absolutely amazing. I would love to live in such a beautiful tree house. Excellent house.
Amazing. Simply amazing. This vision and the realization of it is what makes life a true adventure. Your enthusiasm is infections. I wish you continued success and happiness.
I really like this. I think I'd like "folding" windows on the porch & balcony, to be able to simple close the windows and add usable space in winter. In summer you just leave the windows folded open.
Beautiful!! What a Wonderful place to grow old!! ❤️ Sleep is so much better outside in the fresh air! Great Design!
Wow one of the coolest tree houses I have ever seen
It’s not a tree house
Absolutely fabulous. This is a carpenter.
I'm so inspired. I'm gathering up all the scraps I can get from job sites and am going to build something like it!
This is my favorite house ever!
This is incredible! Life goals! I want to permanently live in a tree house like this!
Magnificent! Love that the logs used are reclaimed and hewn by early settlers!!!!! That, alone, is awsome!!!!!!!
My goodness that is stunning!!!!! I would live permanently in that!
Wow. Just wow. I love the untreated timber used throughout. So many building materials are toxic and off gas for years, decades even. It’s my dream to build a house constructed of all natural materials which not only create a tiny footprint on the planet but also do not contribute to toxic load on the human body. I love the concept and you’ve executed it perfectly.
Your work of art is indeed so fantastic! It greatly shaped! Amazing!
This is the nicest Tiny Home I've seen. It also happens to be a Tree House. What an amazing Project.
Ooh, I really love this house, it is so beautiful, eco friendly, innovative, and FUN!
It looks small from a distance but inside there is a very adequate living space. Seemed ample space to live in there.
Yeup. Best tiny house/tree house I've ever seen. LOVE it! GREAT JOB!
I am in construction also and I appreciate what you said about creating the opportunity to hone the craft. Or however you said it. I totally got what you were meaning and really appreciated hearing that expression.
I love this house. This is an amazing achievement. Bravo.
Wow ! This is AMAZING ! The Hemlock posts are my favorite ! I love that most of the house is from reclaimed materials !
The most beautiful house in the world. Love it. Thanks for sharing. Love from Bangladesh.
Thank you! Is evidently housing is attainable for all in the world! One day all inhabitants of the Earth will own a house!
Not too far from my homeland, Val des Monts (St.Pierre de Wakefield). So l'll be seeing you soon guys, lol! 😉 BEAUTIFUL build!!! 👍😄🇨🇦☘️
Nice eco friendly construction without distracting the surroundings and environment.
I could live here forever.
*Forever until you can't climb up the stairs anymore.
@@EriktionEBW forever is just an expression as there is no forever in this world, but there is what we call a lifetime. And I would still choose to live my entire lifetime here, especially in this time of pandemic. Doesn't matter if I couldn't climb the stairs, I would surely make some changes by then. 😅😊
Such a well considered design. Creating the continuity w all of those reclaimed materials is genius . All the little nooks and storage spaces are unique . Great Job 👍🙏🇦🇺
Amazing work. We prefer grounded homes ourselves but this looks awesome!
Pray that they don't get any of those derecho storms... and for God's sake... cut down any trees around it that may fall into it and damage/destroy it.
Very nice! Enjoy! It is good to know that you used all reclaimed material.
I love that where you live it's possible to build a house in the middle of the forest. Where I live, there are so many regulations that you are not even allowed to change the windows of your own house without an official permission.
I'm sure he had to get permitting to do that. Especially considering the structure is on the grid. Of course permitting process can be more extreme or less extreme in different areas but this is def not an unpermitted structure
where do u live?
where do you live? in sweden you need to apply for permission as well, you can't do anything crazy that will stand out from the rest of the neighborhood
@@cherish78748 In most US states if you live outside the boundaries of a city or town in what is known as " unincorporated areas " there are many fewer rules. Some places have no building code whatesoever
I like the idea that you didn't have a deadline to work towards. The most fun I've ever had on projects not working to a deadline!
Love this i am just about to build my first home so this i like a dream

You have such a brilliant mind! Your tree house is so beautiful!
This is so awesome. Got lots of privacy up like that. I could live in this house. Well structured and decorated. Great job done.
This is just epic!
TINY!? SMALL!? DUDE THIS IS A HOUSE YOU CAN LIVE YOUR ENTIRE LIFE SPAN WITHIN!!!!!!
Simply awesome-the treehouse of my dreams!! The builders definitely did some quality work! Just wish it was close to me in NW Washington state. 😞

Excellent build. I hope it holds up to bad storms and all fires skirt the area.

Great tree house! 😀 ...uhhhhhh, ask an engineer... they REALLY need cross-bracing to secure those vertical posts from lateral movement and potential collapse, be safe!
I initially thought the same, but I think the two upper levels provide adequate shear.
