I just could not get into this game. I bought the original Core Set, but i just didnt like the mechanics and i felt the game really as wasnt much fun as Marvel Champions.
Well I'm not going to disagree ... I'm a much bigger fan of Marvel Champions too. :) I think the deck construction is more difficult (which is a pro or con depending on what you like), but a con for me. And I really like the way MC works allowing you to draw a handful of cards every turn instead of the "draw a card and gain a resource" mechanic. All those items are a personal preference though. :)
Yikes. I can’t wait for the gameplay, but I’m afraid that if it looks good, I might have to start playing it and you’ve already given me a serious Marvel Champions addiction, as it is.
@Jack A All I can say is, "I'm not getting deep into this game ... I'm not getting deep into this game ... maybe an expansion or two ... I'm not going to get a lot of this game." Wish me luck. :)
I have the original and two expansions but never played the core because the rules bemused me.I couldn't work out which cards to use at the start so I put the game in abeyance along with the expansions.. What a waste. This new version seems better but I refuse to buy again just for the rules!vs Who writes the rules and then decided this time we will make it easier to understand ? Thanks for some help.
@apollonia If you still have your copy, here is a link to a "How to Play" I did ... hope it helps you get the game to the table. ua-cam.com/video/EX6tkKGmonw/v-deo.html
Thank you so much for the help. Will be trying to make some sense at last. It is annoying to have games that never see the light of day because of rules that are badly explained . Kind regards.
@Hannibal Lecter I'll have a new playthrough posted Friday, but I did do a "How to Play" about a year ago with the 1st edition. ua-cam.com/video/EX6tkKGmonw/v-deo.html
I’m so glad that this video popped up this morning. I hope you enjoy your adventure back into the core set and I bid you good luck in Dol Guldur. The Angmar cycle comes out next month, with the Fellowship of the Ring box to follow in October. I can’t wait for those and hope we see you enjoy this game again and create some new content for it. I love your Champions play throughs & I anticipate this game will be no different.
Wow Dale you got the revised core set? Does that mean your diving back into Lord of the rings again? Hopefully see some play throughs. Another question is what are you going to do with your old core set? :)
@Mr.L This arrived with several other games ... so on the back burner for a bit, but I want to go through the campaign in the box. I liked this game, but hated deck construction. Hoping the upcoming preconstructed decks will fix that. :) I'll be selling the old core set. The store I go to does a game swap meet about twice a year, so we put a price on games, they sell them, and we get store credit.
Hey Dale, I'm so happy to see you posting videos about this game. I'm tempted to grab this one but would like you opinion about it. I read somewhere in the comments that you don't really like this game or the deck building aspect of it, this was surprising to me because I see you building Marvel Champions decks all the time. Could you give your thoughts?
@Daniel Zuluaga In my opinion, of the 3 main LCGs from Fantasy Flight (LOTR, Arkham Horror and Marvel Champions) I found Marvel Champions to fit my "casual" play style. And while my favorite in game mechanic is "deck building" one of my least favorite mechanics is out of game "deck construction". So of the 3, this is my least favorite ... but here I am buying it knowing exactly what I'm getting into. I don't plan to go deep into the game. Probably just the core box, these starter decks and maybe an expansion or two ... or at least that's what I'm telling myself now. :) For MC, I feel with the core 15 cards of the hero and the double resources (and a couple other cards), half the deck is already done and I can easily fill in the other half, and for the most part concerning the villains, you don't 'have' to construct specific decks for a chance to win. For LOTR, which I got into heavily when it first released, I feel it is a much tougher game and deck construction needed to vary to the best potential at winning scenarios. Arkham, I rarely constructed decks, played easy mode for the story and the story had paths depending on how you did. So with all that said, I see MC as a bit more casual, LOTR more for the player that wants a bigger challenge and enjoys the process of deck construction, and Arkham for the best story. A bit long winded there, but hope that helps! Thanks for watching!
Nice. I got back into LOTR The Card game this year with the revised core set. I previously owned the original core set and couldn't even beat the second mission. Now I'm halfway through the Mirkwood cycle. It's probably my second favorite LCG (Arkham, LOTR, Marvel). Hyped to see your playthrough. Try the dual sphere decks that are in the rulebook and don't use the monosphere precons.
@wenchwogg Glad things are going well with your copy of the revised set! Definitely going with a dual deck, but not interested in "adjusting". We'll see what happens! :) Thanks for watching!
I have just fallen in love with this game just over a year again and I have brought loads of expansions and then I heard about this reprint so as I'm a late joiner into this game the fact FF are still continuing to support this amazing game. This, Marvel Champions and Marvel Legendary are my all time top 3 games.
Solid top 3!! I'm not a huge fan of constructing decks, not a big issue for Marvel Champions, so am looking forward to the upcoming decks for LOTR. Not sure how much I'll get it played though. :)
Interesting that you don't enjoy deckbuilding. For me it's the opposite, I love MC but now I feel it shows its limit with its limited deckbuilding. Whereas when I bought LOTR revised core I was ready to get rid of it but after buying the starter deck and having a blast experimenting with them it is now my favorite LCG.
I think one reason I love MC is because almost half the deck is already built, so I don't have to spend much time on the other cards ... and when I was playing 1st edition of LOTR, it seemed like each scenario really needed a different deck build to get through the challenges. So I'd definitely say LOTR will be a better game for people that really enjoy the deck construction aspect before the game. :)
I enjoy both, the problem with most deck building is that it can get expensive and the newer sets after a while overpower the older stuff or vice versa leading to super expensive cards and paying half my rent on a deck is ridiculous. I don’t feel like it’s happened in marvel champions, but magic the gathering comes to mind.
@@jessicabellandy5687 Oh for sure, I used to play TCG like magic when I was younger. LCG scratch that itch without costing me an arm :) (still not cheap though lol)
I’m encouraged by FFG releasing revised editions. It’s like it’s a living card game or something. Luckily for me LotR is not on my watch list barring any odd circumstances. I have been giving AH (revised) a serious look though. I don’t know what I would do if you started messing with that collection again. Interesting to note that Venom doesn’t appear anywhere in this box. Probably a printing error.
@JJE McManus It's not on my watch list either. I'm not going to buy a lot for this game, I'm not going to buy a lot fr this game ... maybe just an expansion or two. Wish me luck!
Thanks for the video, another amazing video … I was thinking about the diff … you answered me lol

LOTR:LCG is one of my favorites, although I haven’t played it recently. MC:LCG sort of took its place.

This was a game I always wanted to get in to but never could bring myself to do it. This might be the time. That cover art is gorgeous.
