  • In this comprehensive guide, we'll explore everything you need to know about caring for Amano Shrimp, also known as Caridina Multidentata. These fascinating creatures, popularized by renowned aquarist Takashi Amano, are prized for their striking translucent bodies and remarkable algae-eating abilities. Originating from Japan and Southeast Asia, Amano Shrimp are adaptable to various freshwater habitats, making them a versatile addition to aquariums worldwide.
    Amano Shrimp thrive in well-oxygenated, clean water with stable conditions, mimicking their natural habitats of slow-moving rivers and ponds. They're relatively low-maintenance, peaceful tankmates, and excellent cleaners, devouring a variety of algae types, making them ideal for maintaining aquarium cleanliness.
    In terms of care, it's essential to provide hiding spots, ample space, and a balanced diet. While they primarily feed on algae and detritus, supplementing their diet with specific shrimp foods ensures optimal health and growth. Moreover, maintaining stable water parameters and avoiding sudden changes are crucial for their well-being.
    Breeding Amano Shrimp is challenging due to their larval requirements for brackish water conditions. However, with precision and patience, it's possible to rear them successfully.
    Molting, a natural process for Amano Shrimp, is vital for growth and regeneration, requiring careful attention to water quality and nutrition.
    Despite their hardiness, Amano Shrimp are susceptible to diseases caused by pathogens or poor water conditions. Prevention involves maintaining optimal tank conditions and promptly addressing any signs of illness.
    Compatible tankmates include peaceful fish species and other shrimp, although caution is advised with aggressive fish like Betta. Lastly, understanding the behavior and social dynamics of Amano Shrimp ensures a thriving aquatic environment.
    This guide covers everything from habitat preferences to breeding challenges, offering valuable insights for both novice and experienced aquarists. Whether you're intrigued by their algae-eating prowess or captivated by their beauty, Amano Shrimp can make a delightful addition to any aquarium community.

      I just purchased 6 with no idea which one I have. 😢I want to set up a 5 gallon amano only tank (maybe some ramshorn snails allowed) I’m using seeded sponge filters, Plants from my tanks and I mopani wood I’ve had in other aquariums for a year and a half.i want to place tank by window to promote algae growth/green water. And eventually I want to breed my Amano colony, mostly because I’ve been told I can’t. Wish me luck 🍀

    My Amano shrimp love Indian almond and Catappa leaves, Alder and Casuarina cones, Mopani and Cholla wood, Java moss, Marimo moss ball, etc. They also frequently munch on their Wonder Shell. I love watching them. I drip acclimated mine just to be safe. My betta harassed them at first but got accustomed to them quickly. Now that the shrimp have grown larger, my betta leaves them alone. I’m so glad I got them. They are entertaining, peaceful, hardy, long living, don’t reproduce, and are potentially compatible with bettas due to temperament, larger size, and minimal coloring.

    Hi! Can I ask if I can put amano shrimp and betta in one tank?

    • @shrimplycanadian
      @shrimplycanadian  2 місяці тому +1

      You can but it also depends on the temperament of your Betta. If it starts to bully or attack your Amanos, you may find them hiding all the time or they may even try to climb out of the tank.

    Amano and bettas like same water parameters and water minerals/ hardness? I want to add Amano’s to my old, slow, gentle betta Floyd’s tank but I worry that the betta minerals I add will not be good for shrimp and the shrimp minerals will be overkill? (I use crystalpro shrimp minerals in tanks with my ghost shrimp and my betta uses crystalpro betta minerals in his tank. )

    • @shrimplycanadian
      @shrimplycanadian  2 місяці тому

      Amanos and Bettas do share the same water parameters. I've never used those mineral products before but if the water parameters are the same for both tanks, you shouldn't have an issue. The only thing you have to watch out for is if your Betta will bully or be aggressive towards them. I recently created a video on keeping shrimp with Bettas which you can feel free to check out: ua-cam.com/video/m22V9TpV4Zs/v-deo.htmlsi=p_4E35Pt_Fpv-OSi

    Is it possible to just add 3 pcs in a 5 gal tank? Or do i need a school of them ?

    • @shrimplycanadian
      @shrimplycanadian  2 місяці тому

      You can add 3 to your tank as they do not need to be kept in groups.

    Will amano shrimp prey upon cherry shrimp and if so is there a way you can prevent such from happening?

    • @shrimplycanadian
      @shrimplycanadian  Місяць тому

      They won't really prey on Red Cherry Shrimp unless the shrimp is already dying or dead. As long as they're fed and not left to fend for themselves, the Amanos should leave the Red Cherries alone. I currently have 5 in a 20 gallon long with other Red Cherry Shrimp and they get along just fine. Here is a video on the two species that I created a while back: ua-cam.com/video/FitXtRVIutA/v-deo.htmlsi=sfP9HQregpQDqJ-F

      Fritz Paracleanse can be used to treat tapeworms. It has proven to be safe for even scaleless fish, snails, shrimp, fish fry, and plants.

    Hi man How do i grow my female betta fast after 6 months i am trying to breed her with my male but my male is to big?

    • @shrimplycanadian
      @shrimplycanadian  2 місяці тому +1

      I've never personally tried to grow anything fast but from what I've read, frequent water changes, good nutrition and a higher temperature (based on what is safe for Bettas) to speed up metabolism. I suggest doing some research on this matter to ensure you don't affect your fish in a negative manner.
