I have various setups as well. My thick layer substrate still buffering pH 5.4 and lots of shrimps. The problem with lots amd lots of shrimps in a tank is their sizes stayed relatively small. Plus i have to do frequent water changes otherwise the nitrates will shoot up.

Thats great! I always like having various Setups. Ideally You need to separe them into a Growth out tank or add second tank if Big population. And Yes with frequent water change it helps them to grow better... :)

Yes I did use it when had thicker layer soil. But after a year used I had many issues and realized this type didn't fit for me...

Hi! I'm Japanese.
In Japan, your third type shrimp tank is called "Taiwan Way".
Whare have you known that ?
I am interested in Canadian Style for Shrimp breeding.

Yes you are correct. However the second and third methods are Taiwan styles. Some only add soil above UGF plate but I found doing that way, the soil will fall Down underneath the plate and I Don't want that. I want a Clean underneath plate. I just prefer separate them with some bio rocks and white foam to prevent soil falling down. It's just a matter of Personal Preference... :)
