    I had a similar thing with my Nissan Ariya, the charger plug was stuck to a fast charger. After many phone calls to Nissan and ChargePoint my dealer realized that my wife who was sitting in the car had the second key fob in her purse that was in the car. When the second key fob was removed from inside of the car I was able to release the charger plug.

    Poor guy. I especially feel for the frustration for what must've been 16 or more fruitless calls to level one support where the assumption is always an error on the part of the owner/operator with unhelpful solutions like "Have you tried unplugging it?" and "Maybe give it a little tug. Sometimes it needs a bit of a tug."

    Thanks, Sam! Just last week, at an Electrify America charger , I helped a Kia owner troubleshoot this very thing.
    It seems that if there is a mismatch between the charger and the car, like when a previous customer aborts the charge, they will lock up.
    Our solution was to turn the Kia off and then cycle the key fob six times. Then it released.
    It took about 30 minutes of brain busting cogitation to find the solution.

    If there is a good contact between the DC pins in the plug and socket before charging is started there should be no problem. If the power is applied as the plug is being inserted or removed arcing could weld the contacts.

    Charging my S recently I had occasion to use myCs2 > Tesla adapter and the two got jammed together, but just through infinitesimal clearances- needed two strong folk to pull them apart. Since then I keep a wooden spatula with a bit of foam stuck to the end and a silicone aerosol can in the car - just a quick wipe over the mating parts before connecting and they come adrift instantly with a tug.

    Perhaps the EV super charger could do an auto calibration charge, in order to veryify a propper power cable connection, before applying full power. This would be a software controlled process between the EV battery management system and the super charger. If it detects insufficient voltage and current flow at specific charge settings, it could flag a warning to ensure propper cable connection. As someone mentioned a poorly connected charge cable could result in arcing and fusing of the charge connection pins. This could result because the poor pin connection does not provide adequate current flow, resulting in execessive heat build up where the pins connect.

    • @JoeyBlogs007
      @JoeyBlogs007 29 днів тому +1

      This approach might effectively prevent the risks of arcing and fusing by ensuring that only well-established connections proceed to full power charging.

    There have been a few reported this on the Mini Cooper S E group where the plug release won’t let go but no one has reported plugs melted onto the pins. Contacting Mini Assistance revealed that there is a system for cycling the remote vehicle locking and unlocking where after so many cycles the plug will release from the car. There is also a setting in the car’s charging set up menu to set the plug to automatically release on completion of charging but it’s off the bottom of the menu and you have to scroll up 2m lines to see it! It worked for me when my Mini refused to release my home charger plug from the port for over an hour - after that I left the setting to auto release on charge completion.

    All EVs/PHEVs have charging connector locks. As a general rule, all electromechanical systems should have a manual backup system to open/close them. But I don't think my RAV4 Prime has a manual override; if the electronics go bad, I don't think there is any way of disconnecting it. Toyota needs to work on that!

  • @paulstubbs7678
    @paulstubbs7678 28 днів тому

    I had a version of this with a gas (LPG) station, whilst I could disconnect the receptacle on my car, it refused to properly seal with quite a bit of gas escaping. it did eventually quieten down and I was able to leave. I followed some advice of giving it a few short blasts of gas at another station to clear any contaminants, however this was tricky as I had filled the tank at the previous outlet.
    A week or so later I visited the problematic gas pump again, same issue, although this time I didn't attempt a full fill so as to give me room to fix it as I did previously.
    So blow their cheaper prices, there is obviously some invisible contaminates in their system, the discounted price is not worth the hassles. Bring on the cheaper EV's that I can afford.

    Subaru and Toyota have a locking latch for charging plug as DC type CCS1 or 2 as its smaller AC part on the top.
    Toyota RAV4 Prime locks its only available plug choice on AC creating problems with unlatching.
    In that particular case the CCS2 plug had issues making it unable to unlatch that poor designed CCS2 port on Subaru.
    Those 2 EVs from ToyoBaru or SubaYota should be used as intended by creators as local commute EVs usable only with AC charging. Those should be used in Villages of Florida, huge golf oriented communities of retirees who do need a local Lexus like vehicle to shuffle around and charge only home using an 220 V AC plug.
    Tesla latches into its NACS connector by design but never happened a fused together situation like in this case.

    EV is all about software so if I would be in this situation I would have powered off the car and then disconnected the 12V battery for at elast 5 minutes to ensure all the firmwares in the car was dead, then power on the car again. This will reset all the car's controller and reset any buggy firmwares that might be in the car.
    I actually have experienced the oposite, on a trip last summer my MG ZS EV refused to start charging. I tried all the 5 CCS charges at the location, 50kW, 75kW and 150kW, none was working, the car did not detect them it seems. I tried a AC charger and the car actually charged (but that would take 5-6 hours !!). After I have checked and tried everything possible, and a lot of thinking, I went to a gas station and borrowed a tool so I managed to disconnect the 12V battery for 10 minutes. After powered back on eveything works as it should...

Surprised i havent heard more about this considering the voltages and amperages present in fast chargers. The connectors will eventually loosen and probably overheat in most evs

    It actually had happened with a Tesla Model X, a while back, several years ago in Florida, when they were escaping a hurricane. The issue was due to fully depleting the HV battery, when the LV battery also failed(wrong timing🤞). Got resolved, when the almost to be towed vehicle(in the tow truck), was left to charge for a few hours. YT video, with the first person account of the incident( ua-cam.com/video/bCjQBgLds8Q/v-deo.htmlfeature=shared ). Tesla has been there and done that!🙂❤👍

    Typical EV bad design by company engineers that thing EV is the same as 12V battery power distribution. They probably melted the under-sized conductors on the charge port connector. another big manufacturer name starting with an F had contactors on the battery melting down when people drove with heavy foot. so they "fixed" it by a software update that limits the acceleration rate or battery discharge current demand. Nice now people have a stalion named car that is as slow as a pony or ICe to accelerate. except for Tesla I don;t think the EVs coming out in a hurry are being well designed/tested and will last more than 5 to 10 years. Let alone the range anxiety to charge them.

The researchers analysed four families of bees and butterflies, for which they constructed more than 1,400 species distribution models over two time periods in North America: 1939-79 and 1980-2020. The study concluded that "changes in pollinator diversity appear to reflect changes in climate”, but added that “other factors, such as land-use change, may also explain regional shifts". Dr Dhanasree Jayaram: “The India-China conflict poses immense risks to transboundary climate and water cooperation.”

    Well without a doubt there's enough voltage, and amperage, to weld it in place... But the plastic will probably melt before it gets to that point. If it doesn't make good contact or is not scrupulously clean and there's resistance. You need really really good contact for that kind of amperage. .. any resistance and it's game over . I would assume chargers and receptacles have silver components....
