I've still got mine, 1999 4xv traded my FZR 1000 for it in 2003. Put Renthal Superbike bars on it 3 years ago. It still rips my arms off. And handles sublimely. So happy days basically! Good channel buddy 👍
@@LambChopRides Might be something to do with that era? In terms of great styling, comfort, storage space (admittedly smallish, but it does exist!), etc. it reminds me of my Fireblade 954 which I still have, and never really want to get rid of.

Had a brand new one in blue, 1999 model, wished I never sold it, the engine in this bike was the best engine I have ever experienced and I’m 69. Had many cars, scooters and motorcycles over the years, this engine trumped the lot, it was so tractable and smooth, you could accelerate from 1500 - 2000revs in top gear, all the way up to top speed, fantastic bike, sold mine with only 4000 miles on the clock.
Very tidy bike. I had a new one in 99. Light years ahead of my ZXR750L3. I fitted some brake hoses to a friends 2000 R1 a few years ago. I test rode it and its still a very capable bike.
Really enjoyed this and looking forward to the whole series. Will definitely be buying a ticket! I wish I had the ability to do this sort of stuff. Great fun watching you Chopsy.

Ooh 12 minutes 50 in and I'd say that those wires are definitely from the alarm.... as my SP1 has those exact same coloured black wires coming from my Spyball alarm which I am guessing is going to be a nightmare to remove... another great vid Chopsy ... Love it

Definitely agree with leaving it standard & especially binning that alarm. I used to have one on a GSXR750 & it would always go off when it wasn't supposed to as well as killing the battery inside 4 weeks if I didn't use the bike.

The R1 is a minter Chopsy, alarms and bikes never blooming work 🙁 best thing is to do as you done there !! Had one of these in red/white, great bike but needs a steering damper. Traded it on a 5PW, the first of the fuel injected models which was a much better handler with basically the same engine. Bought another 5PW a couple of years ago as a project, she looks like new now. That bike of yours looks ultra clean for a UK bike.
I had a 4XV R1 many moons ago. It was white and red, but rare due to the white tail with black seats. They only did that scheme for about 6 months when everyone was buying the blue bikes. Great bike but to raked over for my very tall self, so I had to move it on.
I have a 5JJ and a 1290 super adventure s (and a P6 ZX7R). The 5JJ has a more comfortable seat and plusher suspension than the 1290. Amazing bikes those old carby R1's. Looking forward to you doing your thing with this one.
Great vid Sir Chops , those datatool alarms become a pain after a while , i had a s21 on my Gsxr, after 15 years it started causing probs , left me stranded twice , had to have it removed .
Miss my 08 R1 - not in the same league as this classic bird, but it was such an awesome do it all rocketship. Love the vid chopsie - think you need to do a classic bike run back to Cornwall on a pasty trip; you need to try Philips near St Ives. And damn, that Hyper is looking gooooooood!

Its very easy to bypass the datatool alarm, ive done it on 2 of my bikes after they started playing up, i did a mates one on his zzr1100 a couple of months ago. Rather than take it off i just left them on.
Nicely done. Don't forget to zip tie those plugs in place stops them rattling around. Now to the elephant in the room, when are you going to show some love to the green meanie. Is it just going to sit and decay or just get one of those half hearted resto's so many u tubers seem to do.
Re grease the suspension linkage on rear Drop the forks 25mm fit stering damper ! Do fork seals n oil service calipers Braded hosees! N got a brilliant bike , that nutter went round the planet on 1 .
Really enjoyed that Chopsy - can you do the same on my GS please? Alarm flattens the battery within 3 days - I keep paying an annual sub for it and would like rid but I have no idea what it looks like or where it’s fitted!!!! Aarghhh!!!!
Looks in great nick all round, and although I think my ZX9r in Lightning Blue and Violet is the best looking ZX9r, or even best looking Kawasaki ever over than maybe the H2, I would rather have the Red and White if I was forced to have an R1 😂😂 The Blue does look very nice too though 👍
I'd recommend pulling out the EXUP valve and greasing everything up with coppaslip, I don't think servicing it is part of the regular service schedule and if they seize they can be a real pain. I tend to do mine twice a year.
@@bobz1736 yeah another good reason to regularly take it apart and coppaslip everything including the bolts, replacing the bolts with decent stainless steel ones is another good tip (sizes assuming they are the same as the Gen1 Fazer are M6 x 10mm (x3) for the outer cover and M6 x 16mm (x3) for the valve plate).
I had same alarm on my fazer - called data tool, there’s an easy fix if you open up the unit and bridge 2 terminals it takes it out of the system. No need to remove any of the alarm it just stays in place
Niceeee 😮 Blue is absolutely the one you want, such a gorgeous colour in the flesh 👍👍 l had an FJR of the same vintage which shared many bits. If you ever want to change the CCT hire someone with tiny fingers 😂 similarly the valve clearances, lots of patience required. Carbs respond well to balancing, but if she’s running well you might be ok. you got lucky with that alarm, mine was done by a ‘pro’, had several traps hard wired into various points in the loom and I ended up stripping the loom to remove and repair all the wiring, something I hope never to repeat. Anyway, great addition to your garage and look forward to seeing you out and about on her 🍻🍻
Red would for danger and alarm ‼️ I would have taken it to an auto electrician specialist for motorcycles- save myself all the grief. I always fitted Arbus fork bike locks/u bolts. Day I didn’t fit it,it was stolen in the wee hours from under my bedroom window. I did get it back. Cat of nine tails for bike thieves.
The information is out there on the net. Nobody would be able to remove this at the side of the road. Bikes are stolen by chucking them in vans. Alarms are pointless
Why would you need to use any of the alarm wiring / plugs? The standard bike, without an alarm, would obviously start and run. So the original loom must have had a set of those dummy connectors fitted, or else there is something else hidden in the loom?
Owning a k1 1000 I'm biased towards that but I'm sure these old superbikes are better than the new ones. Superbikes have become a victim of their own success.

I don't know why you didn't just cut the plugs off completely and then solder the wires. Yes I would have done what you did it figure out which wires you need to joint or cut. Because that's a lot easier doing them with the plugs in place but at least you have the correct wires go to which wire to start the bike. Cut the complete plug off and just solder the correct wires to each other. But hay ho everyone has there own way of doing things. The mean thing is you have fucked off that alarm now so happy days mate. 🤔👏👏👏

I have owned two of these machines, there is a clutch basket modification for these which smoothed out the shifts and first gear enhancement
