Hello to all of you guys from HawaiiMusicSupply, Tobias Elof and escpecially Paul Okami from Koaloha, in my mind these Ukulele Reviews with a builder of Ukuleles are so interessting. To hear something about the history and the intention behind it and the building process opens up the feeling to an Instrument too. Thank you so much for this.... Paul, this Custom build Koaloha you made is beautiful and sounds like a dream! Mahalo Nui from Germany
This was my favorite of all your podcasts to date. You asked Paul so many insightful questions and I loved getting this inside view of my favorite ukulele brand. Thank you so much!
i was born on St.Vincent SVG. when i hear you guys play i see the beautiful island i grew up on. we too were a volcanic island. we lived south om Bequia Channel. flowers, Breadfruit and Mango: coconut trees and Australian pine trees, cloud topped mountains. your beautiful playing goes smoothly with strong Hoosier Style coffee and a shot of Kentucky Irish (Jim Beam). God Bless one and all.
Insightful podcast guys - At 12:14, what Paul says about Koa on styles of music, I find it has been true too as I tried some gypsy jazz, mixing blues while playing with a guitarist, and even when trying something lately, like black magic woman. how would that even sound? I think the sweetness of the sound from koa generally lends to more melodic tunes. And your players show that too here.
I want one of the KoAloha ukes. The lovely tones just speak.to me. I want to improve and hope to play / pick melodies like you guys. The Autumn Leaves sounds so enchanting!
I loved this whole discussion. My experience at the KoAloha Factory was in line with what was described at 1:15:00 - no pressure, and I picked an instrument that speaks to me. At 1:18:45, I also loved the thought about getting the instrument that inspires you. I credit my KoAloha Soprano's beautiful sound to why I play more ukelele than guitar every day!
Love the ukes but sure wish your discussions were more specific in terms that matter to a buyer/player -- like clarity, action, tone, brightness/ darkness of tone, sustain, articulation, wider neck, flatter neck, bell like, etc, compare the woods, labels, years and so on.
This was time well spent! I look forward to these videos every week and this one was particularly good. I love my concert KoAloha , but would be very interested in changing my friction tuners for a set of geared ones. Would you say it was viable? Have you done this for anyone?
We regularly change out the soprano and concerts w the Gotoh UPT. It does require some adjustments so you might want to have a shop do it. We have the Graphtech on order too and those are less expensive. Should have in a week or so. Mahalo!
Aloha, the part where you talk about the price of an instrument has been especially interesting to me; In my country, Spain, the artisan manufacture of classical or flamenco guitar is a reality and a tradition, the price of a good Spanish guitar starts above € 3000 ... It is clear that the amount of material is higher in the construction of an instrument larger than a ukulele, but what makes the product more expensive is the craftsman's time (as with a ukulele). If we are talking about the high-end of recognized artisans, € 1500 ... is cheap. But taking into account a wise reflection that you do on stage, how much does happiness cost?
I am sorry to say, that the Ko'Aloha tuners are of poor quality. They are good looking, no question. Within eight months three of four got broken. Regarding the price I feel ripped off.
The idea that I paid $1000 for an instrument must mean it will sound better and easier to play..... But what if I can't play for shit? I'll take the $65 one thanks.

Great podcast guys. I just purchased a Koaloha KTM 00 and it's awesome. Now you got me wanting to get a black label. ;-)
Awesome podcast! I'm planning to get him on my podcast in July, so this has given me a lot of great insight and ideas. Mahalo HMS!
Such a lovely tone on the uke. I aspire to learn to pick melodies like you.

Paul is a knowledgeable, interesting guy. No wonder he builds great ukuleles.
Lovely, thanks, as always!
The KTO-10 12th harmonic was very crisp and clear.

The best Ukelele is the one you build yourself.
Cool 😎 KoAloha is the best! 🌺🌴🤙
Does anyone know what the song that begins at 23.30 is called? It was amazing.
Glad you liked it, it's Tobias' composition of 'Sarabande'
@@HawaiiMusicSupplyTUS Thank you for your reply! Is it available anywhere? I'd gladly pay for the tab/music sheet.

Is there anything that’s not “kinda funnee” to Paul?
