@@vegasjoe2315 I mean I like sgc and have submitted back when there grading prices were reasonable. They are pretending be psa with there current prices and there slabs have only gone down in value in last 3 to 4 months I can't believe are submitting to them at 40 a card basically after shipping you better be getting a 9.5 or better
Love SGC. Have several SGC graded cards. I have a few Larry bird autos 10/10 graded in the tux slab that are my absolute favorites. Not a huge fan of the downtown’s as I feel panini puts too much of that stuff out in there products but I will say that Pat Tillman downtown is an absolutely fantastic card. I would keep that in my PC for sure! Congrats on the 10!
Hey Ryan, yep put a screw driver in that groove and twist. Do it all around the frame and the top and bottom separate quite easily. I love SGC right now (so not a hater) and have done multiple submissions with them. That’s the easiest way to crack if you get an off grade.
Just sent mine in yesterday. Trout Us175 Lamelo Instant Breakaway Trae Young Slam winter holo. The Trout isn't getting a 9.5. But needs to be slabbed. The other 2 are super low pop. Like 2. Lol. Wish me luck! Thanks for the reveal Ryan.
I really love the black border of the slabs. Honestly my biggest deterrent as far as eye appeal is the actual label. I feel like it just looks like something my kid could make and print off in Microsoft Word. Am I the only one??? Great video man
Awesome vid bro, I’ve been on and off about SGC however I’ve always liked the simplicity of their slabs and how some cards can stand out so well. You made some great points on the state of the grading market atm, it’s literally an endless debate. Hope to connect with you at a show soon!
I see some older SGC like that LeBron in smaller holders. Skinnier and the label down closer to the card like you mentioned - interesting. Seems like they went from slim to bigger. Probably a one-size thing to help same money - which makes sense since they don't charge for the upgrade to bigger holder. I'm not a fan of SGC, but that nice large black holder looks great on the LeBron for display purposes.
Factor in your time (estimate 15 minutes). If you purchase, list, ship, grading fee's/seller fee's and come ahead $10-15 bucks for a graded card, that comes to $40-60 an hour worth of work if you do this with 4 cards. Not too shabby. Love the video's!
Awesome submission return. Im glad to hear positive remarks about SGC. All collector's need to have an open mind and not be so narrow minded as to just liking one grading company. Yes we all know PSA is the Mack Daddy when it comes to ROI. I have plenty PSA10 cards that have no way of being a 9 let alone a 10. Hopefully PSA's new A.I. cuts down on false grades.
Congrats on the great return and man that LeBron slab was HUGE!! Also love the pat Tillman and Herbert green velocity!! Have you seen the HGA custom pay Tillman card it is so clean!!
Ive used sgc a couple times. I'm not sure why people don't really desire sgc graded cards, but my experience is that they don't sell very well or for what they should. I'm hoping that changes but we'll see.
I actually like the “tuxedo” look. I agree with you Ryan, in that the auto grade should be on the edge of the label. I appreciate the fact that SGC doesn’t hand out 10s often like some of the other lesser grading companies do. I think that PSA would benefit from including a 9.5 grade like SGC, Beckett, et al. They have half grades for all the other numbers, but that jump from 9 straight to 10 could be the difference of thousands of dollars, unfortunately.
Hockey cards are so Beckett dominate. I'm not sure if the Canadian market drives that preference or not, but I always have to send my hockey cards to BGS to increase my margins with NHL fans. Just interesting how the different markets/sports take to certain grading services. I wonder if SGC will corner a certain sport or market after the PSA stoppage.
To Crack open old sgc I used a Swiss army knife the bottle opener to pop the case, but the new ones don't know. Bgs I use a wire cutters and screwdriver flat head. Psa I've never done that because it's messy and could damage the card.
Thanks for this! Two questions for you: You had some higher end stuff in here than I would’ve expected like the Herbert and Burrow at the end. What’s your upper limit of sending to SGC vs Super Express? My other question is around the base card flood we saw at PSA. Do you see value in Edwards/Lamelo/Haliburton base stuff going to SGC or is that stuff just better suited raw now?
it seems like there is a huge gap in resale value right now. i have an sgc 10 chrome ohtani rc that sells for two times less than a psa 10. it's cracked in the corner (poor shipping), so i'm thinking it could be worth submitting to psa instead.
I mainly grade with sgc and do well. The basketball market has gone cold for me (mainly 90s bball). I have not sent in anything yet at the $35 but will shortly. I do agree with you that these grading companies will fall into tiers. BGS for super high-end and autos, psa for all middle to high-end, then it gets interesting. Either SGC becomes the Honda (which would be great because there’s a ton of Honda’s on the road) or they shit the bed again. Do you think you’ll build the $37 into the price now even if comps don’t support it right now?
Im a fan of the black borders but the label itself is kind of lackluster. Not a big deal if your selling them but for a personal collection Id wait for a label update.
No expert here but just guessing about the large slab, I think maybe this company started with comics so maybe, assuming that's true, they would already be tooled and supplied up for that size. Might also explain the 0$ extra price. just a guess from a total hobby rookie. (pardon the pun)
Totally get that. I think it was to help get group submitters more cards and to funnel cards through them. For instance, we charge $37 / card, not $75 like they charge on their website. Something to consider.
No point moving the grade and auto on the SGC slab as non auto labels are on that side. People would possibly get confused as you are moving them around for either auto or non auto.
Much cheaper option, but besides PC stuff the ROI is just not there on SGC slabs. They tend to go for 30-60 percent of what a PSA graded gem mint goes for. I did my own test and will not submit to them again.
Hate to say it..but when you use SGC you will see they grade way too strict and charge way too much to be a viable option because their market value just isn't there to justify their cost..Not hating on them just stating a fact..the only cards you should send them to profit on are luka lebron james kobe tom brady rookies etc..But who wants to send them there if you could make double with PSA..They need to drop their pricing..I don't plan on using them again anytime soon..But do what you do..And good luck!
Sgc is no joke if you fend off center top or bottom they use the real scale , psa if the rest of the card is clean they can give the card a higher grade even with a lower centering grade it says so on there site
I had just mailed some stuff into SGC the day before they raised the prices....they still charged me $75 each card instead of $25....a couple of the cards were worth grading at $25...not $75....thanks SGC for the overcharge
Ya they are outrageous right now. I think they just want submissions to stop they are charging prices it's not worth sending to them you will lose money on most cards because sgc values have came down alot in the last few months. I like sgc but based off there current market value they shouldn't be charging more then 15 to 20 bucks
If i sent in a card to sgc and i think its a 9 and thats worth 3500, but it ends up being a 7-8 which is under 1500, would i get the difference back between grading fees? or should i send everything in at the $30 and wait for upcharges? im not sure if they will grade less due to me paying less...if that makes sense, any help please:P
Man ive subbed some cards to SGC and they are very tough to move. Not trying to be negative just realistic. They grade tough and their cards dont sell well. Lose lose in my opinion.
HGA for me personally is better than these other companies. HGA having AI is the most consistent way to grade cards. I know they pass it through AI and actual workers to do the eye test as well. I just personally think HGA is onto something and PSA is noticing that and they are trying to make their move toward AI grading now. I know its controversial, but I also think that grades from HGA, because of the AI grading. Means they are worth more than PSA cards. Especially when PSA has no 9.5, so you have no idea if your card was border line 10 or not. That decision is subjective to the grader. I dont like that myself. HGA 9s to me are better than PSA 10s and HGA 9.5s are far better than PSA 10s. This all just my opinion though. I feel HGA is the harder grade right now and ROI should be reflected into that.
TVM - Time Value of Money, that's what everyone is missing the boat on - been preaching that for months on boards... and I'm the crazy one. Why pay PSA high prices AND wait a year for your cards to come back when the value may not be there a year from now. Too much downside risk in that proposition. Trust me, once you submit to SGC, CSG or HGA you will be freed of the PSA brainwashing that only they know how to grade correctly and you will get a million $ for every slab. Wait till there AI system clamps down on 10's.
