  • In this narrated round I am rolling with Jonathan again. He is about 10 years young and 25 pounds heavier. He has been training for about 6 years. He is one of my main training partners at the academy. This is his 11th video on the channel! I will provide the others in the links below.

I've must have viewed this decent purple a few times, here's my advice for him to communicate: Each time he needs to pass your guard, his hips are just too high. Each time he wants to pass, he should sprawl and sag his hips downward thus putting more weight into you, that would make his guard passing so much more effortless like crazy. In many other opportunities, which I won't recall cause it would lengthen my comment, I would, if I were him, use a lot more hips, just like wrestlers do, sag hip downward, like to increase some pressure gently, you want your technique to be optimized not just with your hands and arms, but using all tools, and the hips are a critical key component for the kind of game he wants to play.
    Decent purple belt overall.

I know what you mean but I have answers for the sprawl and pass. He knows my game well so he does what he thinks will work based on our past experiences. Thank you as always for the insightful comment Ted!

1:19 - If I may be so bold, as a triangle enthusiast, it looks like you could maybe be focusing more on pinching your thighs and knees towards each other, rather than trying to get the triangle tighter. If you can pinch and hip out to drag their posture down, getting the angle is easier, in my opinion. It also solves for the stress on your knees.
Great video and narration, as usual. Cheers, my friend!

Nice leg lock defense. I always try to get my foot to the mat and grab my leg that is being attacked between his legs to take control of the knee line.

i would say run a mile every other day for about 3-5 weeks that’s what i’ve done and it helps you cardio immensely. as many rounds as i want and no more throwing up after rounds
