    Excellent analysis.
    I would suggest the blue belt to spend and invest the big chunk of is rolling time developing his defense. Not worth attacking if your defense fails you when the upperbelt counters.
    The blue belt should also focus on guard passing. Saulo Ribeiro (jiujitsu university) spends 60% of content on the various guard passing. Your 40 yo blue tends to freeze when he's in front of you not attacking.
    I tell my partners when you freeze, guard pass mode.
    Last but not least, and that one made my grappling jump leaps and bound: spend ton of time doing top mount defense/escapes positional. He'll be thankful for that.
    My go to top mount answer is the hip bump escape, never failed me even when I roll with high level upperbelt who compete.

      Thanks for that @tededo. I’m a 51 yr old blue belt in the same school with these 2 guys. I feel like I’m always playing defense but I attribute it to my lack of experience. I appreciate how you mentioned that is was actually a good thing at the blue belt level. Of course having excellent rolling partners at @CodellaAcademy and Anthony from @Jitsover50 is a blessing ! 🤙💪💯

      I agree with all the statements you made, I’m currently A 26-year-old blue who spends a lot of time defending against upper belts and more experienced blue belts. I feel like i was promoted a little to fast, it took me 8 months to get the blue so i had a nice case of imposter syndrome at first lol. Ive been able to tap some upper belts the past couple months which felt good, but Those all came from me surviving and being technical with my defensive movements which lead to the taps. Just keep training!!

      @@mikeriordan248 More, are well seated: defense first. 99% of decent to high level grapplers have trained, drilled and develop their defense, escapes and survival skills first. I've enjoyed training my defense or about 3 solid years, twaz hell but today, I am 60% offense, 20% transition and 20% defense.
      Allow BJJ to captivate you and while you play defense, observe the guy attacking you, take time to read him.

    Ive been focused on developing my guard a lot lately, Im sitting on my butt every chance I get. I am one of those big guys who feels comfortable passing, but my guard is pretty bad.

      We have a new big guy at the gym. The instructor told him to always start off his back. He wants him to develop a guard first. I think if you break things down to the core a guard is the true Jiu-jitsu. Where you use your legs to subdue or hold off a bigger stronger opponent.

    My mount game is terrible against bigger people, but to see you pull this off on a younger opponent is inspirational

      Mount and closed guard can be very difficult depending on the size of both practitioners. The positions almost disappear

      I did as well. Focus on having your forearm under their head and hip pressure into their mid section. This makes it much harder for them to bridge. Of course you have to watch for the trap & roll, but you can adjust your body weight more to one side to make that harder for them. Against the really big guys, 50+ pounds more than me, I quit trying to hold them down, I know they can just explode and it's over. With them I learned how to ride better. Feeling and anticipating what they are going to do and then, riding it to side control, or north south. No matter what pinning position, the real big guys can just decide against us smaller guys they are done being pinned, so look for something on them to exploit when they explode.
