  • There is a lot to say about this video.
    1. It was created from the contents of 3+ hours of live streaming. You can also check out a super cut of the original live streams here: • Bending Bricks - EP1 -...
    2. Access to the original live streams is available to my patrons on Patreon ( / brickbending )
    3. The raw footage for this video had a number of issues because of #1 -- camera auto white balance, auto focus, and intermittent lag to name a few. All things considered I consider the final product here a huge win.
    4. A fantastic video editor did 99% of the heavy lifting on this video, and worked some serious magic with rough raw materials. Go check out Zeke at his channel: / @zekromzeke
    5. This build is 100% legal. Go figure.
    6. I hope you like orange.

@xxPenjoxx yeah, it is fully legal. A build is "illegal" if it bends or stresses pieces, like putting a plate between studs pushes the studs apart and this causes damage. This build is fully on the grid and all properly clicked together, and thus legal.

I wanna see someone do a calculation of how many individual bricks it would take to make this the same size as the Pyramid of Giza, and at what point the bricks at the tip could collapse under the weight.

    • @robertrohrer8535

Or if faced up how many brick till the bottom deformed from the weight

    • @staskuzmenko
      @staskuzmenko 24 дні тому +73

Well, we can assume that the first point of failure will be the very bottom 2x2 pad of bricks. The compressive strength of Lego is up to 4240 Newtons, or 432.6 kg. The description of this build says that there are 1222 "assemblies" of three pieces and that the entire thing is 4.44 kg, so each assembly is 3.63 g.
As a result, a pyramid could have a maximum of 119064 assemblies without breaking.
This pyramid uses the following sequence for the total number of assemblies per floor (shifted by one) OEIS A002623
This tells us that the pyramid could have a maximum of 111 floors before the bottom brick gave out.

    I love this! But....
The pyramid only buckled because it was spun. I don't think (at least it doesn't look like from the vid) it was the weight that did it, but the lateral force from the pyramid tipping over.
While impractical to do, I think the true test would be how many blocks it takes to make the bottom layer buckle while stationary.

The thing with pyramids is by nature of the design when you have the biggest side on the bottom, the shape does a really good job of dispersing the weight so it does a really good job of holding stable. I feel like if there’s a point where it buckles under its own weight that’ll actually be the plastic itself failing rather than the construction. But who knows

The view from the side reminded me of a Sierpinski triangle, and now I want to see how many permutations a proper Sierpinski triangle version could make it to. I’d guess it would only make it to three, since each permutation is more than double the size of the last and with bigger voids each time it would be less sturdy as well, but maybe the reduced weight would let it get bigger anyway.

5:45 Either there's a weird lighting artifact, or some of the layers aren't properly pressed down. I figure it's the former, but if it were the latter, it would have altered the forces exerted on the subsequent layers of bricks a little. A little force in the wrong direction can make or break a build. I don't know if it's possible to make it completely sound structurally, but you did really well for a very big challenge you set yourself! Well done! 😁👍
