    This movie was justifiably good. Not amazing, but so far from bad. Great story? Not incredible, but fine. Great characters? On the surface, they're alright, but as you think about them more some of them are actually decently compelling. CGI was just amazing, the way they incorporated the art style of the games into the arms and armor of the humans is criminally underrated, and it absolutely deserves a sequel.

    I've been playing WoW for 14 years, I really liked this movie. I didn't know the lore from the first Warcraft game really well, so I wasn't mad that they changed somethings, but I was very impressed. I can understand how people can get confused because it was a lot of information thrown at you every second of the movie, which doesn't bother me, but if you blink or zone out a second and miss dialogue you can get confused. I really hope they make another one. It did amazing in China and it's set up for more movies in the future. There is a ton of lore to tap from and it would be great if American movie goes didn't just shit on it because it's a fantasy movie and not as good as LoTR.

    • @koatam
      @koatam 6 років тому +2

      I was kind of disappointed that they started with WCI which was the weakest story. They should have put their best foot forward and started with WCIII, but I suppose that would have to many things to introduce.

    • @Shenaldrac
      @Shenaldrac 5 років тому +3

      "didn't just shit on it because it's a fantasy movie and not as good as LoTR."
      God, I remember one review I read of the movie that criticized it with "there's more to being like Tolkien than just coming up with weird names for places." And I'm like... what the actual fuck? Do people not get that not every fantasy thing is trying to be like Tolkien? Also, hey, you probably don't get most of the significance of places in the LotR unless you read the Simarillion. Kinda like how you'll get more info on places in the Warcraft movie if you *play the games* and read more of the material about them. Not everything fantasy needs to be the next LotR. Also, man, yeah, remember how Lord of the Rings had multiple factions and elements of grey to each, with diplomacy and sides and shifting alliances? Me neither, super basic good vs evil plot over a macguffin is clearly superior amirite?
      Also, criticizing based on the names of places? Right, because LotR was so imaginative with names like Mount Doom.

Though my main motivation to unsubscribe when he made that 'joke' about how helping autistic children is 'generic and boring' in whatever forgettable video it was about whichever forgettable film it was (that really ruffled my feathers), I get the feeling he picks films solely because others don't like them and doesn't do any research.
      Me and my brother used to be devout, but when he left because he wanted to to be a film director like Micheal Bay, I didn't. I still espoused to him everything CS says about Bay and now I'm too worried that I was crushing my brother's dreams back then.

  • @georgercop

    As a Warcraft fan (and someone who's played the game for over a decade), I enjoyed it. There were some things that were out of place, events were changed a bit to paint the Alliance as the "good guys" who "win" at the end (whereas in the original story, they lost, Stormwind got trashed, and they were pushed north), some bits were omitted entirely (namely Mannoroth, but he was alluded to by Garona once; and that Medivh was a vessel for Sargeras, but i can understand they didnt want to overcomplicate things). I did also feel that the early pacing was a bit off, as it jumped around a bit too much too quickly.
    I'd also dock points for the unnecessary diversion to Dalaran. Felt like it was just a bit of a time dump (and considering it's almost a whole continent away from Stormwind, a bit unfeasible for Khadgar to fly there in the amount of time he did), and really dont think they should have had Dalaran flying at this point. They only had it that way because in WoW, it's been flying for the last 10 years, and that's how people know it. It was originally just a normal city until it got destroyed in the Third War (which takes place about 20 years after the events of this movie), before getting rebuilt, and THEN made to fly 10 years after that.
    Oh, also changing Garona's heritage from half orc/draenei to half orc/human.
    That being said, I like the rest. The little nods and references throughout that were put in for players of the game, the effects, the landscapes and locations built with so much care and attention to detail. Look at the Goldshire Inn and compare the movie version to the game version. Aside from all the ERPers, it was dead on. Stormwind looked magnificent in every shot, the orc camp on their side of the Dark Portal was in a region that was a perfect blend of Hellfire Peninsular and Tanaan Jungle...just very well translated.

    • @suddenllybah
      @suddenllybah 6 років тому +1

      I am not sure if draenai existed in Warcraft 1.
      Still kinda a mistake to make this movie, given the writing only starts to exist in Warfeaft 3

    • @matthewmuir8884
      @matthewmuir8884 5 років тому +2

      @suddenllybah There are Draenei in the movie though; hundreds of them are sacrificed by Gul'dan to fuel the opening of the Dark Portal.

    • @LuckySmurf
      @LuckySmurf 3 роки тому +1

      - I'm not sure if you can say the humans "won" at the end of the film. All of the Stormwind soldiers died, or were captured, at the portal, the king's dead and now Stormwind is vulnerable to an attack (keep in mind that the city is fairly secluded compared to the other Alliance Kingdoms who are clumped together).
      - Dalaran in the movie is already flying, so we don't actually know where on Azeroth it currently is. It could be floating near the Alterac Mountains or maybe not. I don't think it really matters to be honest if it should be flying now or later, but the rule of cool dictates that floating cities are in, so Dalaran flies. Also, in the brief shot we saw of Dalaran, the city appears to be floating over an ocean.
      - Garona was originally a orc/human. That was retcon later to orc/draenei. The movie decided to go with the original version and made Medivh her father....for some reason.

    Granted, It's not likely she'd be from Pandaria, but still.

      I'm not sure Stormwind *knows* about the other continents at this point. Quel'Thalas might have records, hell they might have people who remember Kalimdor, though I don't think they do, but... it's sketchy at best. They're probably *more* familiar with the concept of reaching other worlds through the Nether than the far continents.
      Also, you can make a map of only a portion of the world. Even if they know about the other continents they're untamed, distant wilderness as far as they know, so it'd make sense that the map in Stormwind Keep only has the *relevant* portions of the world. Besides, who knows when that map was made.
      ... though I suppose it wouldn't be unreasonable to surmise the orcs might be from another continent, which would make the limited map incomplete.
      And then there's the question of whether they should have that kind of map in the first place. But I suppose they have gryphons and other flying things, sailing ships, and decent mathematics, so it's plausible.

    Been playing the games since Warcraft III and kept up with the lore ever since. I enjoyed the movie, quite a bit.
    However, No matter how hard they tried, this movie isn’t for outsiders. There’s a lot going on that most people probably couldn’t follow without prior knowledge of the universe. Like when Jeremy sinned the “volcano” in the back shot, fans know that’s “black rock mountain” black rock mountain has tons of rich lore and it was placed in the shot as a nod to the fans and if there was ever a second movie following the same storyline we would have scenes where Lothar and the alliance confront Doomhammer at said “volcano”.
    As someone with knowledge of the lore this movie was fucking awesome with tons hinted to come.
    As someone coming into this movie expecting a fantasy story, they got a Mumbo jombo mess of story telling that went nowhere.

    I played WarCraft 3, and I looooved how close to the games all the designs were. The armors, the buildings, the orcs, the elves, it just all looked awesome and like the game planted on the big screen. Also, I loved how they visualized the magic.
    About the story ... it was okay. It was an introduction to the world, the characters and story were secondary to it. The story still wasn't bad, mind you, and the characters were likable enough, especially Durotan, Garona and Khadgar. It really is a shame that this movie wasn't succesful enough, since the stories of the later games could have made for awesome movies.
    Also I'd like to say that WarCraft was, without a doubt, the best videogame-adaption I've ever seen, much better than Resident Evil, Prince of Persia or all the other crap. Also one of the very, very few good fantasy-movies outside the Tolkienverse. A shame there won't be a sequel.

    (Advanced warning this is an absolute essay I’ve written here) Im a massive Warcraft nerd and generally liked the Movie I didn’t like some of the lore changes like how there’s only one warlock Gul’Dann, there’s no ogres in the Horde, they heavily implied that Gorona was a Human Orc hybrid instead of a Draenie (the blue dudes from the beginning) Orc hybrid, they never showed Blackhands children who were major Horde leaders originally, Orgrimm Doomhammer was a frost wolf removing much of the weight from his and Durotans friendship (he was originally a Black Rock which is the clan lead by Blackhand who doesn’t like Durotan), Gul’Dann was never that strong thats why he turned to the Fel (Demon Magic), the human city of stormwind (the major city in the movie) should have been destroyed and taken by the Horde in the end of the movie, and theirs many more but these were some of the bigger ones and the last one I’ll add is that existence of the Fel and it’s deadly and corrupting properties should have been common knowledge to the people of Azeroth (the world where the movie takes place) as they have dealt with the Legion (the major force of the Demons) many times and made sure to record it and spread the knowledge as far as possible so future generations would be able to affectively combat them.
