It all started when she wore the dress of the guest, which she shouldn’t, in hotels we trust the house keeping staff with our personal belongings, the house keeper and the male guest are both at fault.

I think many of the people in comment section are not understanding that this story is not about what is right and ethical but it is more about the title itself " Shame". Shame made each character do bad stuff which they normally wouldn't have and it caused them harm
@Prathama well interpreted. Shame can make an individual go to any extent. Here who is right who is wrong doesn't matter much. Hurting someone's self respect can result in unexpected actions from the other end. I liked the short film. Thanks for enlightening great fighters in the comment section. 😄
@indian lad29 hey! I did not ever said that their actions were to be justified and forgiven... I added words "bad stuff" in my comment.... Don't you forget that...and I never said that the characters should not be punished... Why aren't you understanding the deeper meaning of this "fiction" Short story? A rapist is a rapist. What caused him to become the rapist is all this film about!!
@indian lad29 this is how you have understood our comments as well just like how you understood the shortfilm. I haven't supported his or her acts and reactions. We discussed what pushed them to commit such acts!
@indian lad29 Just like how you have a right to express your opinion, I too have. It's up to you to think whatever you want. God knows why you have to compare rape, acid attacks with this short film. First of all the man was having illegal relationship for your kind info. Even at the pool he was enjoying the sight of a gal. Just bcz a poor lady tried to wear the outfit you can't call her a slut right???? Actually he is the one who was enjoying with slut. There is something called forgiveness. He could have forgiven her. I am not saying whatever she has done is right but according to me it was excusable. Guess people do not know the impact of firing someone from job. She did take the revenge which again is not justifiable. The entire concept here is to have a control on our desires, thoughts and acts. I haven't supported whatever they have done. Coming to the example that you have given, if a man has no control on his lust and has no good sanskar (as depicted in the film) will end up committing rape. I have better job to do rather than proving my point here. You have all the rights to put fwd your thoughts. So pls carry-on. As I said its my opinion and I haven't asked anyone to take it. Bye!
No status no voice but definitely does have the power to bring him down to the level which he could not imagine before. Without status, she could do anything.
For everyone having an anti sentiment with the plot of the film. Its a very good articulated metaphor stating that a small pawn possess capability to rattle the whole chess board. Kudos to the film maker and the cast.
'Shame' is a brilliant piece of storytelling! Anusha Bose has done an exceptional job highlighting the often unspoken issues of body image and societal pressure. The cinematography and direction were top-notch, and the storyline kept me hooked from start to finish. This film is a poignant reminder of the impact of our actions and words on others. Highly recommend watching it!
I think this movie was spitting some facts in both ways and I like it I can relate to this cz am black when ppl see my color they treat me different but ain’t no victim am black and proud
No doubt the story is good with good lesson "Never insult someone so much so that he or she will take revenge against you ". However, fact is how much do we have control on ourselves in this respect particularly when someone is really is at fault....really very difficult.
Having A affair is a bigger mistake than wearing someone cloth,Cheating someone is a bigger mistake than Than fulfilling her little desires......The Revenge is extreme but it's A Indian short film....Nice concept.
@indian 32 She didn't murder the man and neither did she punish him for having an extra marital affair instead for slut shaming her and talking about her 'aukat'. What was her fault? Only trying to dress in the other woman's cloth. That's it. They could have just scolded her cuz she was already giulty of doing what she did.
Imrana Fayyaz the thing is who are we to punish anyone? Everybody makes mistakes. It was okay to scold her for doing something wrong but going as far as making sure she lost her job, which for her must be very important, is Going too far. You are taking away a person’s right to live just because they dared to dream of a life as good as yours.
Absolutely loved 'Shame' by Anusha Bose! This short film masterfully tackles complex themes of societal norms and personal insecurities with a gripping narrative. The performances, especially by Ranvir Shorey and Swara Bhaskar were incredibly powerful, especially the protagonist's transformation. This short film is a must-watch for anyone who appreciates deep, thought-provoking cinema. Kudos to the entire team!
Lesson of the story: Dont stay in Indian hotels. The housekeeping staff will touch your belongings and then fuck up your life if you dare to complain to the manager. And the Indian media and many peoe would support her with it too 😃
Even the housekeeper could allow his wife to caught the husband redhand with his girlfriend. That can be the moral of the story. Look at things positively not negatively
@@manofthematch7193 If you see this too positively then you must stop smoking pod immediately! Surely that wasn't her intention which can be shown as per her statement regarding "the importance of a drop"!
Firstly, it is good to see that most people do not condone revenge of the form Swara's character takes in this film. Secondly, I personally don't feel it is a film's burden to show only what is right or give any value judgements. A filmmaker may choose to convey a deeper message or moral, but may also just choose to tell a story. Not all stories are ethically and morally right. There are as many stories as there are people, and some people happen to be psychotic. This is just one such story. That most people do not agree with the protagonists behaviour is enough to understand that the audience has a mind of its own, and cinema does not have to bear the responsibility of moral education.
My interpretation of one part is that when she left him there without any water , when the time came and he needed water , she states that he would only then understand the importance of even a single drop of water meaning the ones who work as the staff or housekeepers etc basically it’s all about how we don’t realise the importance of the things we have in life till its gone and also there is the revenge ploy

Very well done. There are any comments on her being right or wrong. I do not look at it from right/wrong lens. It is a story that captures humans and how they react. Shame is a very powerful weapon and you may never be able to imagine the extent to which you yourself might go to when you are at the receiving end. I know that many times hotel guests do not appreciate the work done by the staff to make their stay as flawless as possible and simply treat them as if they are insignificant. The cleaning lady is a human as well. She crossed her boundaries but with no mal-intent; rather it simply showed that she forgot her limits momentarily. For that she lost her job (it was harsh but I can understand that manager has big liability issue). The man (Sumer) was crossing his limits all the time with other women in the absence of his wife; the only difference being that he was able to hide it (until now). I enjoyed the brief scenes with the hotel manager and he added some nice cute comic relief as well in the room.
The power of "word" tremendous.... If you don't select ur "word" wisely while talking it can be a curse for others as well as you.... We use so many word so carelessly without knowing it's real meaning and how it creates impact on others....
No....I think...u r not understanding the main moral..."it's how we should treat the housekeeping or other serving staf ....they are also humans they also have feelings....u just forgot about ...how she had thrown water on her ...while they were in tub.👍
Strong massage... We should value people nd try to understand others point of view as well if somebody committed mistake may be it is thr weak zone. Value others emotions too.
I agree but I think the main point was how he talked so cruelly about her as he deemed her beneath his status. The main message is meant to be "Treat people in service industry with kindness and respect" though yes it did get a bit ridiculous that she poisoned him and all that...
@@prernajoshi7199 Yes also true. However they are also human beings and can make bad judgement.. it was enough that he fired her for one mistake, the man did not need to call her "slut" and degrade her further. Still not saying she was justified in what she did but yeah he is no angel!
This was exceptional , not only for the movie but how it got under the skin of so many viewers , by their comments. Don't think any mainstream movie could garner this kind of feedback. 🤩
She wasn’t revengeful after getting fired.it was because the man insulted her by calling her slut or aukaat stuff.had he not said all these, perhaps she would not have become revengeful.self respect is a big thing to all.Good movie.
Like his manager said... she was caught for the first time.... no one acts like she was for the first time... she was habituated to such acts... peeping inside room, keeping an eye on guests, wearing their clothes....his manager should have thown her out immediately without ful n final
Great plot dealing with social, psychological factors. The smell of revenge is never too sweet. There is no such a thing as a small enemy, specially, when she has nothing to lose. She's is the sole provider for her family that's going to pay dearly for her indiscretion. The table turns and she walks over him - "this is the way rats feel before they die." At the end, she feels liberated!
You are a hotelier. You must be having lots of experiences with variety of guests. Terming a women is easy. How many such men, who come with a woman are termed as SLUT/ PROSTITUTE/ RANDI etc. Rather they are laughed at desirosly. It only one sided. Isn't it?
Shame," by Anusha Bose and featuring Ranvir Shorey and Swara Bhasker, is a masterclass in storytelling that skillfully shows the complex nature of human relationships and societal expectations. The film's setting centred around a business trip, serves as the perfect backdrop to explore themes of vulnerability, power dynamics, and the consequences of our actions. The performances by Shorey and Bhasker are nothing short of phenomenal, bringing depth and nuance to their roles. This short film is a strong reminder of the impact of empathy and understanding in our lives.
I was thrilled with the wonderful premise but it quickly gave way to a simplistic and cliched revenge drama. With such terrific actors there was so much scope for a nuanced resolution. What an opportunity lost! This is however not to say that it was not a good one time watch.
The film is all about the hidden desire......Swara is excellent on her role & others too. When we stay in big hotels we normally forget that the staffs also have desire & feelings.
yeah in the end the way they showed that as housecleaning lady she did all that to clean other people shit and spray, put flowers etc and still that guy who himself was slut and not loyal was calling an employee as slut. We forget to thank these people like that kid does in the start because kids are of pure heart. Film has multiple messages in it but people are unable to see them.
The film shows two minds, one all filled with ego, overconfidence, opportunist and capitalist and the other sick and revengeful because of being outcast.

With that logic, the dress was lying there and offering itself to her, to be worn, even without having a life in it? No ? Cheating on wife by getting into an extramarital affair is wrong. Using someone else's belongings is wrong too. The attitude shown by the company lady is bad too.
A good story with all the actors/actresses at their best. No work in this world is ever small and thus one should never underestimate the work done by others. Being rich does not mean or give one the power to demean and mock someone like calling them a 'Slut.' just because the opposite person is poor and is living a hard life. Rather the rich should indeed be thankful for their lucky stars they are not in her shoes. On the other hand, when at work be it however simple try and maintain self respect, dignity, and honesty. This being said, at times the desires within oneself also need to be controlled. Had the housekeeping staff not had the desire and she being sincere controlling herself at that time, the story would have taken a different turn for sure. 'Every dog has his day.'
The wife coming in at the exact right moment, the puking and hence undressing of the lover at the right time, the thirsty Ranbir forgetting about drinking water the whole time he was downstairs, the clients’ uninformed exit even though they were supposed to wait some more time, the entire story feels like written by a kid. It boils my blood when bollywood spends money behind talentless people. But when Sharat kataria’s wife wants to make a directorial debut, I suppose they cant say no.
I think sir, what you miss is a willing suspension of disbelief, which is important whenever you enter an arts space. www.google.com/search?q=willing+suspension+of+disbelief&oq=willing+suspe&aqs=chrome.0.0j69i57j0l4.3153j0j7&sourceid=chrome&ie=UTF-8 and it's not me who says it, it's a mature theatre and film artist saying it facebook.com/junoontheatre/videos/1214742698644217/ Also film can be looked at, in other ways. Like, SiMon Sez in above comments says: DIGNITY OF LABOUR : Who over here can say that they have not committed a mistake in their lives -Personal or professional? Don't want to reveal -fine. But EVERYONE has done a mistake. Big or small, everyone is doing a job, making a living, making ends meet and sometimes, just sometimes, genuinely, mistakes happen. But the reprimand must equal the mistake, not over-reach it. Here, it did. An apology would have sufficed, and perhaps deduction of wages as a fine - but to fire from the job!! And then to show someone down just because they belong to a lower social status than you are and then to make such disparaging, insulting remarks..truly shows that money really shows what class you have, or don't. (Having an extra-maritial affair doesn't really put you on a higher moral pedestal, does it?) I for one, support for what 'Fanny' did - karma works in wonderous ways. The man got what he deserved. As they say, "Paap ka ghada jab bhar jaata hai, tab tabahi laata hai." It was the end of the road for the man..only that the vehicle to bring it to him was 'Fanny'. or like, Awantika Mishra says, I think this movie is about the fact that we don't usually see people as people, and completely forgot about their emotions, I remember when I came to college I used to visit CCD and they will be like "Good Morning, Ma'am" "Good day, Ma'am" and I used to be like what's the need of respect? But used to wish them back with same zeal where some of the customers used to be arrogant. Also while being in a bus for long journey we are always why is this driver riding the bus this slow, we don't even consider the fact that a nap was necessary for us in this "8 or 10" hour journey. Everyone is an integral part of society and we shouldn't be like "people tend to forget their limits" where in reality the limits do not exist. Those who are bashing about room service, try to see the fact Fanny apologized for what she did, and whatever she did don't make her slut. This reminded me of the story of elephant ant. Those who are bashing about women empowerment, no the story could have been about a male employee and again this effective.
Yuvraj Bajaj thank you for taking this genuine effort of making your point in clear words and with substances. I agree with most of what you said. My problem is not with the bone of the concept. Even though the core of this short film has been told too many times before and there is nothing fresh about the basic idea of this film, yet a fresh execution can bring in new perspectives and make things more convincing. My issue is with the details of the execution of this short and the execution here is lame. Super Lame. I tried to explain the lameness in my above comment. Now lets talk about “suspension of disbelieve”. I could be better suited to talk on this if I was well versed with abstract art. Here I will attempt to talk about it with the example of cinema. Among the most prominent art forms, i guess cinema is more closer to realism in the spectrum between realism and abstract where art, poetry or literature have more room for abstract in them. Can we agree on that? Now when we see a fairy tail movie or a superhero movie, the creators set up the world inside the movie in unique ways. For getting into the world, we need to suspend disbelieve. We need to imagine asgard, flying gods jumping between realms through spectral portals. Ok, thats understood. Now when you build up your story, you still need to be consistent with the world that you have built. Because movies, or novels, are built up on information it provides itself in earlier pages. Its not just a page of painting which is a wholesome expression itself just within one glance to it and then compiled with multiple possible set of information in our heads to give it deferent meanings. Films do need to be careful and not lose track of the ground rules they set for themselves. So whenever this argument of “suspension of disbelief” is brought up to defend a weak narrative, it mostly stands for “shut down your brains and believe whatever is shown” Why this short does not work for me is because the whole point of the film is the maid’s radical change and the revenge against social injustice. I agree that there were no time to build up her motivation. It certainly could not be just this sack. There must be other stuff going on which is casually expressed with one sentence, “ghar me bohot tension chal raha he sir”. Still, the entire revenge, as I mentioned above, is a co-incidence. Not the result of a well planned act. She definitely could not have sabotaged a corporate meeting that takes place in a 5star hotel with just messing up with ranbir shorey’s appearance. The wife got involved by a very thin chance and learned about her husbands lover by an even thinner one. And all those by chance things start happening after she had made up her mind. So I wonder, what was her original plan. Dope the guy, take away his access to water and he will be screwed. Dumb, isnt it? The opening shot could have told us a lot more about the character that supports the drastic transition, but instead it reveals the compassionate dutiful and interactive side of her, its a short film, footages should be used carefully. Lets call this one nitpicking. My whole issue is, this short is grounded in reality. Its not fairy tail, its one woman’s journey who is fed up with the disbalance in the society, and took up the task of challenging it. Its a huge transformation for a 5star hotel maid. So, you cant through in a half baked motivation in the background and a poorly planned con job. And lets not suspend all our believes cause this line should only be used in context.
@@yuvrajbajaj985 1. Suspension of disbelief is fine if the filmmaker can take the audience along in his/her vision and narrative. So when Bhansali narrates about a husband who takes his wife to find her lover in an exotic European city, the audience willingly tags along, suspending all logic! Clearly the director here could not take her audience with her. 2. Dignity of Labor - not really applicable here. Ranveer ordinarily wouldn't have made that comment. And it's a two way street. You earn respect for what you do professionally. Three big unethical un professional lapses by Swara here : eavesdropping on hotel guests, checking their mobile phones and then the ultimate one : wearing the clothes of the guests! 3. Reprimand must be equal to the mistake - subjective and as per hotel's policies. Personally for me, this lapse was really too big and demanded a big punishment - and well, who knows if she hasn't done it before (and will not do it again?) Blame it on the director or the actor - but in that portion, it seemed Swara didn't come across really too well control on her senses. 4. Mistakes do happen. Only, this wasn't a mistake. It was a deliberate act by Swara to wear the clothes of the guests. Mistake is generally inadvertent and unintended. She wore the clothes, or checked the mobile phone, or eavesdropped fully consciously (and perhaps, with the safety net that 'koi dekh nahi raha') 5. Ranveer having an extra marital affair is irrelevant to the plot - and is a childish attempt to try to put some blame on him. It doesn't justify Swara trying out guest's clothes. She would have ended up wearing that negligee even if Sayani happened to be Ranveer's wife! 6. Your last paragraph is correct - we don't see people as 'people'. - we ignore (or not notice ) the ones who are there for us/serving us. That's true. But *this particular story* doesn't lead up to THAT at all. The trigger point - was her mistake / professionally unethical / immoral , and hence from thereon, the story just tumbles and cracks and falls. This was purely bad film making. - apart from the basic premise being so warped, even the tone of the film was inconsistent. The entire 'revenge' part kind of gets a comical treatment - had this been treated like an out and out comedy maybe the reactions wouldn't have been so sharp as they have been now.
I think, many people are have missed the actual point of the story. WHO IS THE ACTUAL SLUT. The dress is just a Metaphor, of, sense of belongings. You like it or not, In this Male dominated world, woman are considered, some body's belongings. THEY are just a kheti... To be owned by a man, and to reap The fasal, Children, whom they will give THEIR NAME. AND that is why , openly or discreetly she becomes a Man's belonging. Why & How a man touches other Man's belonging AND also being Chivalrous about it GETTING FREE and he himself is not a SLUT ? This story is about HIS SHAME. THE WOMAN at the end of the story, that wife should have taken back the authority of that husband, , of giving his name to her children, because, he is a SLUT and could not keep the honor of his name, and that Dishonored name will pass on to the Children. Then only, she will stop belonging to him, and will also be a free Person, as he was boasting of, in the start of the story. *The dress is just a Metaphor.*
I have worked in housekeeping dept of a 5 star hotel. Such a behavior in a 5 star hotel is absolutely unforgivable. But still she would not have been fired. She rather would have been suspended till the businessman would be in hotel or her promotion might have been affected. Coz staff in hotel industry is decreasing day by day, and losing an efficient employee for 1 mistake is not what a hotel would afford.
Brilliant Script and Direction, Fantastic Editing Full Kudos to the Director Anusha Bose :) This is an amazing storyline, Cant believe that Swara Bhasker who played the Sister of Salman Khan in Prem Ratan Dhan Payo took this role up. Still remember Swara Bhaskar's first interview in which she said NO One was willing and ready to play the role of Salman Khans Sister (Which she played) in Prem Ratan Dhan Payo (who wants to Make Salman khan her BHAI) ... but we must understand that what she did was just out of curiosity and Greed. These housekeeping maids work 12 to 16 hours per day and they are paid extremely minimum wages / salary. They come from real poor backgrounds and lack the hi-Fi lifestyle that they see in a 5 Star classy upscale hotel. Its a Dog eat Dog world out there and everything is and everyone is ALL ABOUT MONEY. The corporate world is only based on Money, Contacts, Sex and Parties mostly. These rich tycoons and businessmen are mostly the reasons hotels get their rooms and meeting rooms filled. We must understand Guest is Always Right and its the Guest who is paying the bills / salaries of the employees. If there are no customers, how will the hotel run its expenses and pay its employees. The manager (even if he didnt wanted to) had to fire Swara just to save the prestige of the of the hotel and his job also (Imagine if this came out in Media). Reputations are at stack. However Firing is NOT the preferred route, May be give last and final warning or transfer to another hotel / department. Sayani Gupta is getting bolder day by day after her movie series Four More Shots, great bold acting, Ranvir Shorey was usual a great actor and a flamboyant playboy. Swara looked hot in the Lingerie. @Prathama well interpreted. Shame can make an individual go to any extent. Here who is right who is wrong doesn't matter much. Hurting someone's self respect can result in unexpected actions from the other end. I liked the short film. Thanks for enlightening great fighters in the comment section. 😄
Thanks...Even I liked the short film and I totally agree with your point of view. There are some offended fighters in here🤣
@indian lad29 hey!
For one day but for years to come he will still have a better status and life.
But she proved she has no class, didn't she? That's why she didn't get respect.
even though he can't prove that she did harm him, but he can sue the hotel and recover all his loses. completely unrealistic and stupid.
For everyone having an anti sentiment with the plot of the film. Its a very good articulated metaphor stating that a small pawn possess capability to rattle the whole chess board.
Kudos to the film maker and the cast.
Moral of the story:"keep your nighty in your cupboard"
What a treat it is to watch Seema Pahwa Ji in whatever capacity. 👏🏿 She’s so versatile and even a few seconds scene, she’s brought so much. Love her.
Very good realization
Cyrus is a very underrated actor . I met this man once and he is one of the most kindest people I know of . Very down to earth
He is ranveer shorey..not Cyrus
He's talking about the manager..
No...really no....here ,it definitely was the housekeeping woman's mistake....literally, there is no explanation to justify her actions
Well said true
Man ...this is exactly what happens ....being a supervisor see this cases almost everyday...mercy is all we need
Having A affair is a bigger mistake than wearing someone cloth,Cheating someone is a bigger mistake than Than fulfilling her little desires......The Revenge is extreme but it's A Indian short film....Nice concept.
You are a criminal too.. u think revenge is harsh
@indian 32 She didn't murder the man and neither did she punish him for having an extra marital affair instead for slut shaming her and talking about her 'aukat'. What was her fault? Only trying to dress in the other woman's cloth. That's it. They could have just scolded her cuz she was already giulty of doing what she did.
fuck off mate. none of her business

Okay whatever everyone else thinks , I like the message in this story. “ be nice to your servents, they have got the power to screw you over.” 😂
very well said anu jee
Not at all right. If servents did a mistake they should be ready to face the results.
Because they are known to every bit of our life😂
Nice thought.
And the Indian media and many peoe would support her with it too 😃
Ok u must follow 😂😂
Obvious
Even the housekeeper could allow his wife to caught the husband redhand with his girlfriend. That can be the moral of the story.
Look at things positively not negatively
@@manofthematch7193 If you see this too positively then you must stop smoking pod immediately! Surely that wasn't her intention which can be shown as per her statement regarding "the importance of a drop"!
Yes. Every word is true.
Well said @Ishani. People aren't watching the film. They are judging the characters of the cast.

All actors are ugly, except Tara Sharma and little girl
Totally agreed
The power of "word" tremendous.... If you don't select ur "word" wisely while talking it can be a curse for others as well as you.... We use so many word so carelessly without knowing it's real meaning and how it creates impact on others....

It is bad but the punishment was much bigger than her mistake which is wrong.

(Having an extra-maritial affair doesn't really put you on a higher moral pedestal, does it?)
I for one, support for what 'Fanny' did - karma works in wonderous ways.
So whenever this argument of “suspension of disbelief” is brought up to defend a weak narrative, it mostly stands for “shut down your brains and believe whatever is shown”
Why this short does not work for me is because the whole point of the film is the maid’s radical change and the revenge against social injustice.
She wore the clothes, or checked the mobile phone, or eavesdropped fully consciously (and perhaps, with the safety net that 'koi dekh nahi raha')
Excellent. Brilliant performance by everyone.
No one can can transform from being afraid to fearless in 25 minutes. This movie doesn't depict reality.

Sahi kaha , koi itna bhi mana kare lekin film kya keh rahi hai ye matter krta hai !!!
aur hmare story writers ko ache scripts dimag me ate hi nhi hai
Horrified and totally unacceptable concept
She apologized to him and that guys called her a slut... Calling slut isnt 'Gulti' ??? For that she took her revenge
Shows the power of a servant.. great storyline .. to throw her out from job was fine, but when u insult someone, get ready for repurcussions
So that's the way to cure acne marks
😁
hahaha..
Spotted same here
🤣🤣🤣
😂😂😂😂
what a story....what a revenge....!!!!
Never insult anybody. It may pay you back in your own coins.
Hi sir
True
Gandhi spotted!
Everything is fair.
Awesome storyline and characters.
What a revenge....tooo good😂😁
I hope a maid tries your clothes the next time you go to a hotel. That would be too good.
Funny how she flaunted by sexy legs in that lingerie (Does housekeeping staff get that much time to keep their legs glowy :P) WELL DONE - Please SUBSCRIBE to our channel also and hit the bell icon for such more movies :)
This short films makes more sense after parasite
I was thinking about the same thing
The korean movie parasite?
Small mistakes should not get big punishment. Concept is right.
Stopping her from job punishes her family. People who give negative comments don't understand it.
ur a dumb bitch
Swara Bhaskar performance is really good
The story is between those who have's and those who have nots..... respect the dignity of everyone's life....
What a short movie
Really fab... Hats off to the concept n director
Waiting for more to come
Gr8 acting by Swara..
She had not only taken revenge from the guest but from the hotel manager too as at the end the guests run away due to fire alarm.
Excellent, amazing work 👏 👌 👍 🙌
A fancy hotel that treats its staff like shit is not fancy at all. Employee rights are so important.
Very true....
