Just practise and get good, but I would use 24g

There is no one who could tell you that. Just test some Darts out, experiment and find out which Darts fits you the best.

There is no 'one size fits all' in darts, what works for one won't work for another. Ryan Searle uses 32g darts, and is one of the top 64 in the world. Stephen Bunting uses 12g darts, and is one of the top 20. I use 28g for instance. The width and shape of the barrel also goes on a player by player basis. Look at Manley, using onion shaped darts. Some use straight barrels, others have a deep groove at some points. All you can really do is find something that is comfortable, and practice and practice.
